I've been wanting to do this for some time, and I finally had the time to gather up a few pictures of other non pro-touring stuff we have been working on. So, here is a wrap up of what we have been up to for the past month.

57 Chevy Convertible on a Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis. This one is sort of a blend of performance and original restoration. It has our performance chassis, 510 HP LS3 from Turn Key Engines, TKO 5-speed, 14" Wilwoods, 19's and 20x12's out back. But it will retain all stock trim and have the appearance of a stock car. We changed the LS injection over to a carb style intake manifold with a throttle body on top. It will have a stock themed 57 air cleaner on top of that to keep it looking some what original under the hood. It is in paint right now and will be assembled shortly.

This one I will have to actually start a build thread as soon as I can organize all of the pictures. quick details... 67 Chevelle on a Roadster Shop Chevelle Chassis. Aluminum 572 with a Bowler 4L85. 18x10 and 20x12 Forgelines (mock up wheels on it right now) A lot of unique metal work has been done to the car.c Should be pretty cool once completed. We are hoping to have it out to upholstery by the end of March.

We also have gotten into some of the higher end new car tuner stuff which is pretty cool. We completed a few BMW's that were delivered in December and January.

2009 M3 - Full carbon fiber wide body kit, and painted the car matte green. (Not our choice, but it actually turned out pretty sick when it was completed.)

We have a few early 30's hot rod projects going as well. unfortunately, 2 of the more detailed cars we have to keep under wraps at the owner's requests.

Here is a Speed 33 with some custom metal work.

That matte green M3 is sick. The "flares" make it resemble a CLK Black Series IMO.

I didn't think I would like the green BMW but it looks great ,so does the silver and blak one. The Chevelle looks nice too but I didn't expect anything else from you guys.

Yeah, the M3 is pretty wicked. It was really hard to pull the trigger on painting an entire car matte green. The matte finish is hard to layout and it can't be sanded or buffed after. But it looks bitchen now that it is completed. We were thinking that it might need a big white star on the door to complete the army look!:D but the machine gun would be more fun!

The Chevelle is going to bs the Brockmeyer rendering from our website. I'll try to get a thread on this car going this week.

The econoline is a funny shop project that has been thrown on the back burner for a few years. It was going to be a parts truck built in a 1970's van theme jacked up in the back with Cragers, side pipes, heavy heavy metal flake, octagon rear window, etc...

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I like the M3 too. I was actually thinking about doing my '93 K3500 DRW CCLB in a matte green similar to that, with some gloss black 19.5's. Kinda like a (albeit slightly) modernized CUCV. I work for the Army, so I guess that's where I get it from. Might see about wrapping it instead of paint though.

What kind of wheels are those on the M3? I used to be heavy into the BMW mod scene, ran a forum like this a few years ago....I can see they still love their wide-bodies. :_paranoid

Here are a few custom chassis that we just completed in the last few weeks.

This is a real wild chassis that we built for a 1966 Lincoln Continental being built RPM Hot Rods. Plans called for a big HP LS7 and the stock unibody design and limited options for suspension wouldn't fit the bill.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/Feb%202011%20update/Picture14801.jpg

We also made a custom version of our Fast Track suspension to accommodate an air bag set up with external shock.

Another unique chassis build... a 1953 Dodge Meadowbrook Wagon. This is one of 4 chassis we have built for a customer that has a little different taste than most. He has a collection of rare cars that are built in somewhat of a resto-mod theme. All are 100% stock appearing, with stock engines, interiors, exterior, trim, and must sit at a stock ride height. The mechanicals of the cars are then hot rodded... all of the engines are built to 400 + HP, 5 or 6 speed transmissions are installed, and since there are generally no aftermarket suspension options available for these cars, we build one-off chassis for them.

This one would be sick as is, slammed with big steelies and white walls, but the owner is into the stock ride height look.

And here is a custom 1970 Challenger Chassis being built with our Fast Track IFS. This is the same type of chassis will be under the 2011 Good Guys Give Away Challenger.

The chassis is mocked up at ride height and tacked together on a flat frame table. From here it will go into a fixtured jig for final welding in order to keep the chassis squared and true.

I've been holding out on these because they were either not pro-touring, or didn't really warrant a full build thread. The idea of doing a shop update seemed like a great way to show all of the other stuff going on around the shop.

We try very hard to keep the shop and all of the projects looking the way they do. It has definitely helped productivity having specific spots for everything and having a clutter free work area.

Anytime you are in the area definitely stop by and I'll show you around the shop. Ask for Bryan or me (Phil) and let us know you are a Lateral-G memeber and I'll be happy to show you around.

We currently do not have anything planned for an open house. We wanted to do something last year, but really ran out of time. We'll try to plan something this year and will definitely post details when we make our final decisions.

Here are the original renderings by Eric Brockmeyer

The car as it rolled in. A really, really solid, unmolested, original Texas car. There was no rust anywhere and the car retains all of the original panels.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/1967%20Chevelle/Picture006.jpg

Primed and prepped for paint. The body is mostly stock and I never took any good pictures of the metal work. The drip rails were shaved, filled the emblems and trim holes, and fabbed new tail light housings that are now a part of the body rather than the original bolt on piece. The majority of the work was done to the bumpers.

And here is another tri-5 that we have been making a lot of progress on. A 55 Nomad that needed a little more attention than we originally thought. It was media blasted and then discovered that a lot of new metal was needed! So after doors, quarters, rockers, complete floors, wheel houses, tailgate, and a few other things, this is how it sits. We are just finishing mocking up all of the trim before it will move into the body and paint stages.

Time for another update! We have been making a lot of progress on several cars recently. I'll be starting a few threads on the PT style cars later today. In the mean time, here is a look at a few of the other things that we have been up to.

57 Chevy Convertible is coming together. We are waiting on a lot of parts to be chromed and stainless parts to be polished, but have been making some good headway on the wiring, plumbing, and panel assembly. I took a lot of good shots of the chassis before the body was mounted.

Getting our beater C10 ready for paint. I found these pics while organizing files that were pretty cool. A little bit of a change in altitude from the original frame. Take a look at the tube fence behind the truck in relation to the hood.

Thanks guys. I'll get a few more pics up a little later on on that C10 and a few other projects.

DJW - The long bed was definitely the way to go. We picked up the truck for around $1,200 running/driving and 100% solid rust and free out of AZ. (A comparable short bed is $10,000 - $15,000) We are a dealer for the new short bed assemblies that retail for around $3,500. Our chassis is the last piece in the puzzle to easily convert a long bed into a pro-touring short bed.

OrangeVert - We custom mixed that green to get what the owner was looking for. We started with a GM production color and then kept tinting it and spraying different levels of matte clear to get the desired color. That is one color that I never thought anyone would be asking for the paint code on! Unless that was a sarcastic question on your part.

Things have been pretty busy around the shop and I've been slacking on this thread. In addition to completing the Nova for Columbus, we have also been running wide open on several other areas.

The body work and prep was wrapped up on the 55 Nomad and we sprayed the body this week. The rest of the parts are going into the booth and the cut and buff will begin on the main body. Chassis has been assembled and ready to go under the body as well.

Another cool project that we are just about wrapping up is a bitchen' Nova Gasser. This was originally a PHR cover car back in 1973. The majority of the components remain original to the car. We are making a few refinements for drivability and safety but it will otherwise appear basically as it did in the early 70's.

A copy of the original cover and article.

Here is another chassis that you probably won't see every day. A local shop in Milwaukee started building a custom Divco milk truck and needed a chassis. After they had the body framed out, they sent it down to us to build a custom chassis. The truck has some cool history behind it. A family dairy farm used this truck for their deliveries back in the 40's and 50's. They still had the truck and wanted to turn it in to a hot rod now. The idea is to make a luxury conversion van out of a Divco.

The only thing left from the Divco is going to be the front clip. The builder fabbed the inner structure for the rest of the vehicle that will later be skinned in aluminum.

We can design and build a chassis for just about anything. We have done custom chassis for a 60's Lincoln, 1930's-50's Oldsmobiles, Buicks, and Pontiacs, a 1930's Mack truck, one of Mickey Thompson's vintage race cars, and a whole bunch of unique projects in between.

Milk truck with LS9... That's gotta be too cool to be truth.
The LS9 is actually for the 56 Chevy chassis next to the Divco. This one is getting a 502 or 572 with a 4L80 behind it.

sweet!!!

The chassis is in line with any or our production muscle car chassis. There is a slight up charge for the design time and building all new fixtures to construct the chassis and frame rails around.

It's a bit open right now. I want to keep it relatively stock looking on the interior/exterior. I'm having copies of the original wheels made in slightly larger diameter.

Twin turbo LS is the logical choice to move this much car around but I'm not sure if it's "right".

I considered doing an STS-V supercharged northstar. Also maybe a 500ci LS with dual 4bbl throttle bodies and a fabricated batwing air cleaner so at a glance it looked somewhat stock.

I think the best engine would be a Falconer V12 but it's been done and it's a little pricey ;)

We are also wrapping up the 55 Nomad. A few details left to finish on Monday and then off to upholstery Tuesday morning. Nothing too wild on this one, just a very clean, original appearing car that the owner plans on putting a lot of miles on and having fun with.

Under the hood the owner was more concerned about reliability than looks so he chose stock GM components that could be easily sourced on the road if needed.

Skip, thanks for the compliments, but we are probably not going to re-produce those. They were more of a 1-off design for this car and would be too labor intensive to produce in any quantity.

The truck has a 9" with parallel 4-bar rear suspension. We built the truck before we had completed the Fast Track IRS unit. There are some build pictures where you can see various pics of the chassis on our web site.

ABS electic brakes on the car above? Good modulation or are they a bit touchy?

Roadster Shop
10-10-2011, 10:28 PM
Yes, it is an ABS electric brake unit. We have used several of them so far and really like them for cars that aren't going to see a lot of track time. They are a hair on the touchy side, but no where near as sensitive as some of the hydraulic units we have used in the past. The pedal feel is great for a street car, I would say OK for a track car. I still prefer a manual brake set up for track and auto x use for better modulation and pedal feel.

I would relate the ABS unit to a new foreign car. Have an Audi A4 and it is a real similar feel.

We chopped the top, mounted all of the sheet metal, fabbed the exhaust and mounted all of the other components to get it ready for body and paint. The customer is going to finish the car himself, just needed all of the fab work completed.

Really cool shot of the back of the car. It makes a big difference whent he rear coilovers are hidden. The split and drilled bones have a great look with the Q/C here as well. We also fabbed the rear section of the car to look like a variation of a stock gas tank.

Here is a 61 Starliner that we just completed a custom Fast Track chassis for. We were able to build a driect replacement chassis that greatly lowered the ride height, can handle the John Kaase Boss 429 motor, accomodated a 12" wide rear wheel, and utilized all of the stock mounting locations with no modifications.

We have been uploading all of our custom chassis to a new section on our web site dedicated to the unique, custom, and 1-off chassis builds that we have done over the years. http://www.roadstershop.com/custom-chassis

Another busy week coming to an end. We have 2 new arrivals in the turn key build side. Both are very unique vehicles and should be great builds.

First is a 63 Fairlane. The plan for the exterior is 100% bone stock. We are having 1-off wheels CNC'ed to look like the original low option hub caps only in 18" diameter. This car is going to be the ultimate sleeper with a Jon Kaase Boss 429 engine with 8 stack EFI and Roadster Shop Fast Track IFS/IRS chassis.

Just getting started on the disassembly and chassis design this week.

The second is a 66 Suburban for a local customer. He really liked what we did with the 57 Suburban we did last year and wanted something similar. We are just going through the planning phase now so a lot of things are still up in the air. It is looking like a large cubic inch big block will be the power source. Currently trying to balance drivability with the big HP numbers he is looking for. Full Fast track chassis, 6 speed auto, shaved and smoothed exterior with a few subtle body mods that are still being worked out. More to come soon!
