Today we started out rolling down 75 fairly easy . We were just cruising along and the road is a 3 lane highway . we start jockeying for position, playing around but still keeping the speed reasonable... but then Bill Howell is in the far left lane, i was in the middle coming up on him . about that time i see Bob Johnson moving at a higher rate of speed than most , he's starting to move to the front. I look over at Rick (aka RICKS HOT ROD SHOP ) riding in the goat with Bill and smile at him and point back . he looks back and sees what is goingto happen .

I thought at this point it was now or never to take the opotunity to shake down Fuel and the Cuda of Bobs. !!!!!

I moved to the far right lane and went from 6th to 5th . Bob rolls up beside me and down shifts. We both throttle up and then down shift to 4th .

And BAM , were off. At this point i am pulling forth gear out to about 6,000 rpm . then i start to shift to 5th . at that point we are neck and neck , but then he starts to pull away slowly. As i keep it to the floor Bob is getting out on me about 1-2 cars. Keep in mind we start about 65 -70 mph. I think we were about 120 before i had some trouble.

I look up in the mirror and see nothing but smoke bellowing out of my car. OH **** , we all start pulling over . I knew i was losing oil , At that point i shut it down and coasted off the road.

Turns out 2 bolts came lose at the oil pressure sending unit ... lucky as i am we get off easy with just tightening up the bolts and checking the oil . I put in a half a quart and were off again

The best damn part was I had got to drag race the cuda on the highway , a once and a lifetime opportunity for me .

Bob flat out was pulling away , but i did pretty good and damn proud of how the car ran for me even though he kicked my ass.

And get this , Bob never stopped !!! After meeting him 200 miles later he asked if i was ok !!! Thanks Bob !! LOL

Cool story Jason! The highway driving was by far the best part of when I went on the power tour a couple years ago. Soo many awesome driving moments. Even with the rain we had. Im glad to hear your beating the heck out of your car too.
Must have sounded so awesome hearing all of you over 6,000rpm!!!! :wow:

Has it ever NOT rained on Power Tour?
Never in my life have I ever seen it rain as hard as what we went thru the last night of the 2004 power tour on our way thru Chicago heading towards Michigan. Every car on the highway including semi trucks pulled of the road. Zero visibility. It was the first time in my life I was actually scared behind the wheel of a car.

Well, the story is not exacty correct. I was right behind those 2 in Lisa's WS6, I saw it coming and took the hit (Matted it before they did) from 100 feet behind them. Jason was doing a good job with Bob, but is mistaken, it was 135MPH when we lifted! I figure Bob hit 160 as he had no clue he lost Jason for a half mile, LOL! No mirrors, how could he see, LOL! I REALLY wish i could have got the video camera out, but if i did all you would have geard was me screaming, LIFT! LIFT! LIFT!!!! Scared me, I was sure he blew it up. Jason was a cool customer, never got rattled. Frst the broom, then this, kept his cool very well.

For a couple days I had been disappointed about not having Prodigy on the tour, but when those two lined up, I couldn't help but notice a third empty lane. Then I was really disapointed.

One thing you got to take your hat off too. These guy's were not only driving a million dollars worth of cars, then were driving them like they were stolen, and that my friends deserves some respect.

And yeah, it rained on parts of the tour.

Awesome story Frank. Glad we got the truth!! 160 MPH  Big round of applause to both those guys. Nice to see the cars being used for what they were built for! Just one of the many stories that will be talked about for along time.

Motor in cuda 572 Hemi, but under power sounds like a fuel dragster.
Let the record reflect, I was not racing, I was not speeding, I was just the one they all passed. I was on a reasonable pace and BAM, there they go. I do not speed, I obey all laws. Speeding is bad. :_paranoid (Insurance agent may be lurking)
And for the record, Bob called as soon as he saw what was going on. Trouble was at 160 or so, he had already gotten about a 1/2 mile down the road by the time he was back down to 65. I told him to go on, but he called back in a few minutes to see if everything was ok.

Too funny, after it took an hour just to get our incorrect meal tickets, I don't think I will get a Christmas card from that restaurant this year.

Charley is just mad cause I put some moonshine in the mule Tuesday night. The car ran so good Thursday, he blew the fuel pump.

I am cruising down the last leg in Mary Chryssos' CRV today. Not so much a powertour cruiser, but damn nice a/c. :D

OH, they added their 20% in anyway! They could not get the tickets right but no problem with the tips, even though the service was horrible, etc.
No doubt the low point of our whole trip.

Allow me to comment for ALL The People sitting infront of their computers reading this thread.
WE ARE SO JEALOUS OF ALL OF YOU.
Wish we could be there and attempt to compete with the big dogs. It sounds like a blast.
Hopefully one day I will have a car worthy of the power tour.

Bill, the waitress is still probably mad at you because you DIDN'T want to order your meal like SHE wanted you to. The service could have been alot better but at least it was a good time. I think you paid for one of my beers, I owe you one. I think they deserved a 5% percent tip instead of the 20.

I think Jason is near sighted..those 2 car lengths were super stretch Limos with tandem axles..I would have stopped but as I looked in the rear view.. you looked way back..and she was smoking like a brothers funeral procession... maybe my mirror is one of those (objects may be closer than they appear) lol.. hell I gave you the roll.. When I lifted, I thought you were 10 or more cars back..I did call Howell and there were already 5 cars and a wrecker stopping..only help I could have given you is if you needed a check written..as you know, I'm only a check writer..glad it was only a oil line..I like your car..especially thru my rear view mirror..lol

Bob, what kinda power you making in the Cuda?

Indy dynoed it at 870 at the crank..we made 675 at the wheels with the injection..it's running out of air..starts losing power at 6700..cam is supposed to be in the sweet spot to 7500..got to get some more volume in that intake..it has plenty of throttle body.. 2 ea. 70 MM 1550cfm..runners aren't long enough and not enough volume there..Everyone said it would hurt the torque but not the big end h.p...Well it makes tons of torque..over 600RW down under 3,000rpm..but the h.p. is suffering..just pulling off the aircleaners made 29 more rear wheel h.p. still pulling big vacuum at WOT at 6500rpm..

This was the 2nd time..remember the first time you just blew the tires away and I did also as I pulled out of the toll booth behind you..just a few minutes later..the man came roaring up looking for who was making all that racket when they left..made my sphincter get a little tense..

Here's a pic of the beginning of the run. The cuda is barely in the frame and it's already a blur. Charlie Tuna was driving my car for the first time. He saw what was going on and was itchin' to tickle the loud pedal. I told him to keep his **** holstered. A moment later I'm yellin "Whoa! Whoa! Oildown! Lift!

The smoke sure looked ugly from our perspective.
