Howdy.

I'm Jason, and am stoked to be the new owner of the beautiful 1969 Camaro below. I'm in my early thirties and brand new to old school cars, but not fast cars. In fact, my new car is a lot slower than my Atom that it replaced.

From most current I've owned:

(still own) 2004 Forester with full STi swap, built motor, big turbo, 300awhp, Wilwoods, coilovers, etc. Kick ass DD and snow rig
2013 Volt - Wife's DD.
2011 Ariel Atom 3 - built the motor myself - 279rwhp at 2.4L - matte black. At 1350lbs the car was spooky fast.
1996 Viper GTS - Supercharged, Wilwoods, HREs
2002 z06 - 383, coilovers, built tranny/rear, nitrous
1995 M3 - former DD - big stereo, wheels, tint, etc.
1993 RX7/LS1 - one of the first CA smog legal swaps
1994 - XJ6 with a LT1 swap

My big plans for the new Camaro:

Street drive it a few thousand miles a year
Get in more track days
have a blast with it
keep it shiny and square
not mess with it too much
maybe do a 3 or 4 link of some sort this winter (still leaf sprung)
LS swap if I ever kill the 406
I'm gonna try matte black z/28 stripes (decals) to see if I like them.

I'll hope to have track videos in this thread soon. I'm trying to get to Thunderhill in early October. Car has already run 2:04s there.

I've got a few more little things to do to get it streetable - install turn signals, heater/defrost, a bit of sound deadening to chase rattles, padding for the roll cage, etc.

The car is a flipping blast to drive - it's super well sorted, pretty softly sprung, and just puts a smile on your face every time you row the gears.

I love the 'zero f*cks given' style of the build, which includes sawzalling the fenders out at the race track to keep racing. Here's Vince's great fix of that: http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=45491#goto_displaymodes

I'm glad that I'll not be stressed about harnesses scratching stuff or rock chips or door dings or what not. I'll flog the car regularly like she deserves.

Thanks in advance for helping me with all my stupid questions about carbs and old schools and whatnot - I've never even owned a car that wasn't in metric...

Cheers,
Jason

PS - the project name is because the main build of the car was done for the guy that founded TMZ.

I like the stance and the widebody is probably noticeable if you look closely and certainly if parked next to a stocker, but it isn't overdone. Matte stripes would really look nice.

Vince built that thing - really cool car, I had seen it in person a couple times before the paintjob.

He posted a few pics of it a while back in the track car section.

The car was orig built at my friends shop by his brother..My other friend (who was their employee) was the one who cut the wheel wells because Boris wanted BIG tires lol. Vince sure did a very nice job on it..It's a good car enjoy it

Hey there, after a long day hanging the tail of this beast out, there's nothing as refreshing as a Smirnoff Ice, Mike's Hard Lemonade, or a Bud Light Lime-o-rita to cap the day off. Nothing wrong with that...

...but since I'm new here, I'll admit that I'm on a mezcal kick these days.

Awesome car--I approve of the styling. It just needs some dents. I really like how this thread has already gone down the drinking toilet, so now I'm really inspired to check back soon.

Vince-

I havent driven her since the day I got her. I'm just finishing a remodel of my new house and haven't had time or space to work on her (had to tear the ceiling out of the garage and reinforce the joists in the roof for a hot tub, as well as a bunch of 240 work for a compressor, EV charger, and the tub).

I noticed that the other day that the hardware is not the same for the front and back wheels (and that only one wheel has a center cap) - what's the story there?

RE the oil pressure gauge - it appears to be more or less stuck on ~60psi, regardless of temp or RPM. Luke put in a fuel level gauge before I picked up the car, so my guess is that there's just a loose wire or ground somewhere and it's a simple fix. I have to get in the dash anyway to install a turn signal harness, will take a look and see what I can find.

Still planning to track her next week and am super stoked!

Cheers,
Jason

Hot tub in the ceiling? My man!

Might have a bad connection on the gauge...or a ground issue.

Are you talking hub cap or wheel cap? Those wheels never had them. Plus the front hubs stick out too far to put a cap on. That may change after you put the spacer on.

lines got crossed between my and Forgeline. I was told they didn't have the black hardware anymore. I was just gonna paint them.

Thanks!!

The plan was to go with a 295 on a 10.5 wheel but settled for a 275 since he had the rear 335/19 NTO5's already and no 295/30/18 series tire in stock at the time.

We were limited to how wide of a wheel we could go due to the upper Global West Cat5 control arm. Deepest backspace we could do was 5.750.
A 315 on an 11" with a 6.875-7.00in back space wheel would fit great with a set of Speedtech arms on it.

Found the issue with the oil pressure gauge - the fuel level gauge 12V was tapped off the oil pressure power and causing interference. Unplugged the fuel sending unit and all good. Will re-route power for the fuel level and should be in good shape.

Vince- So if I switch to speedtech upper control arms I should have a lot more steering articulation? That seems like a much better fix than spacers or new wheels. Is the geometry substantively different or are the current control arms significantly better? I assume I'd have to realign after the swap?

Thanks,
Jason

Glad you found the problem with the gauge. Not sure why they spliced since there is an ign and b+ junction stub not 7" away.

The problem with the suspension is its a complete system. If you wanted to run different arms you would have to replace the spindles, brakes and steering linkage too. One thing you can do is have the upper arms modified or redone with a different front tube.

Driving home. Will get video up in the next few days. She goes like hell and the car just works really well. I freaking love the car.

I thought I was going fast. Then I rode in my buddy's GT3 cup car and turned some 1:55s.

The good news is that the cup car tires are 275 and 315 and the exact same height as the current tires so I can run his pull offs. So I got sticky tires figured out.

Now I just need better brakes... Absolutely roasted em by my last session. Had the pedal go to the floor on my last hot lap and had to pump during the cool down. Spooky. And I need a bigger oil cooler.

Meh on the Jack. I'm a burbon guy.

Vince-

Looks like the high temp may be a bad ground adding resistance. Will start there and then check the sensor resistance if it's not the ground:

PS - video is not great :( mounted the go pro too high in the cage so you don't get a ton of track in the video, mostly cockpit.

Nice car! Are you doing tack days at thunder hill? I have a buddy that has a white GT3 from Sacramento wonder if it's the same guy? I have learned a ton from this site and everyone seems to be really helpful. Met a few of the guys on here in person fun group. If you get a chance you have to do one of the Optima events!
