We're currently working on the this '68 Camaro for a customer. Its a pretty "simple" build with a mild amount of fabrication... The body will be very stock, all factory trim and emblems. The only exterior mod will be a little bumper tuck front and rear...

Its getting a DSE front clip, Art Morrison IRS, 427 BBC with an early corvette tripower, and a 5 spd.

Should be a fun build!

Heres where we started:
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/8ED4B92E-B81F-419F-96F8-ACB339C9BB40.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/8ED4B92E-B81F-419F-96F8-ACB339C9BB40.jpg.html)

http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/AE0E17A3-8F5D-497F-945C-5DE3364E1C5B.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/AE0E17A3-8F5D-497F-945C-5DE3364E1C5B.jpg.html)

The body was very clean! The worst part of the car was the colony of mice that lived in it throughout the years... We found rust in very unusual places.
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/247F545E-8215-484B-8308-49E196FE32B0.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/247F545E-8215-484B-8308-49E196FE32B0.jpg.html)

The glamorous part of building cars... Scraping undercoat for a day... Thank God for the rotisserie!
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/49752B88-9712-46A8-B62F-92A21C1A9FE9.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/49752B88-9712-46A8-B62F-92A21C1A9FE9.jpg.html)

We got the main areas of the car blasted, and mounted it to the frame table. I was pretty surprised to see that the body was twisted about 1/2"! An easy fix now, but could have been a nightmare!

Looking forward to seeing the details on the IRS install and how "simple" this build stays.....I can see the snowball forming already!

Nice Buick.

Heres the morrison Rail that welds into the car.http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/1896894C-6FCB-48D5-A58A-7D4DCBC7C2A5.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/1896894C-6FCB-48D5-A58A-7D4DCBC7C2A5.jpg.html)

We started getting the rear rail mocked up where they want it to go... It really requires minimal cutting to get it installed. But... we are after a lower ride height... We decided to raise the rear floor and rear rail up 2". That would give a a 5 3/4" ride height.http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/E0EB0E77-95A9-4F1A-AEF6-7DD14F10AE4E.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/E0EB0E77-95A9-4F1A-AEF6-7DD14F10AE4E.jpg.html)

Will the 2" mod allow the IRS full travel or are you going to have to make further modifications?

It will be close, we may need to modify the outer wheel well. The factory outer well almost immediately starts curving in... making it hard to tuck any tire.

Another nice build!

Just wondering, what went into going with a sub frame and rear weld in system over a full frame?

Rick I asked the same thing. Turns out, the owner wants a fairly stock look when the hood is open, the hydro formed DSE rails fit the bill.

Looking forward to seeing this one come together.....as well as the falcon!

We used DSE mini tubs... Here is how the tub fit with the Morrison railhttp://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/CD1D6713-1381-4554-9EBA-882A3C3CD90D.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/CD1D6713-1381-4554-9EBA-882A3C3CD90D.jpg.html)

The rail has a taper to it, and the tubs don't... We decided to add a wedged flange to the tub that welds to the rails.http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/C758F527-3230-42C2-A9E4-0BB86F68122F.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/C758F527-3230-42C2-A9E4-0BB86F68122F.jpg.html)

We got a re-pop rear floor section and trimmed out the area needed for the IRS. The customer wants a stock looking rear floor, so we made a step in the floor matching all the factory radiuses. http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/EA96E6A6-442F-4425-AC0E-C3CD96101A00_1.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/EA96E6A6-442F-4425-AC0E-C3CD96101A00_1.jpg.html)

We're using the 59.5" track width. The wheels in the pic are just for mockup. They are about the right diameter, but the offset will be quit a bit different... We haven't nailed down the exact measurements yet, still waiting on some parts.

What type of rod end bushings are used in the IRS UCA and LCA ? They look a little like a Spohn joint (large delrin bushed 360 degree rose joint). Is there no rubber or poly in the setup ? (I have come to the conclusion that hard jointing suspension and then soft joining the subframe is the ideal solution to the bushing firmness batle).

also, I never did find a price for the IRS on their website. I don't have any serious plans to buy one or I would call them. But, probably not the appropriate place to discuss here but if someone wanted to throw out a number...

Its great to see it getting installed though and how that works, and always nice to know about a local shop that does high quality work.

The UCA has poly bushings inside and out, the lower uses the factory rubber bushing on the upright with the joint on the cradle side...

Here are some more pics!

We had to make a new trans x-member. The aftermarket one we had didn't allow enough room for the exhaust... The new x-member fits very tight to the floor, that did force us into making it come apart on one side... If we didn't put the joint in it, it would be stuck in the car... (half height body mounts)

So..... Not to question the owners build but cast manifolds on a bbc on a car w/a DSE front/AME rear seems.....

Uhmmm..... out of place??

My opinion is for a car that sees a lot of driving or track time I feel cast is best. Even though it looks no where near as pretty and doesn't perform as well as a good header they are less prone to cracking. Even the best headers sooner or later crack. it's the nature of expansion and contraction. now days a lot of cast manifolds flow equally as good too. I agree some tubular long tubes would look nicer but to each is their own.

Honestly, I love that about this car. Cast manifolds look super oem, and it's not like he's gonna miss the power.

I really hope they run a set of super wide 15s or 16s.

I have a custom built tri-power set-up I took off my 510 cu.in. 69 Camaro if you have not sourced one yet. It has nitrous plates and plumbed for it. Off a 69 vette 427, oval port. I have the heads that were port matched with the intake, and the correct air filter. Ran great, but it loved the gas!

Looks great wish I could come do some work for you guys haha

Why don't you!? We are always looking for help!

So..... Not to question the owners build but cast manifolds on a bbc on a car w/a DSE front/AME rear seems.....

Uhmmm..... out of place??

It goes with the factory look he's trying to achieve in the engine bay... The DSE front was the best choice for a "factory looking" clip.

The more I'm around the car the more I really like the idea!

We have most of the Fab work done on the Camaro... We decided to clean up the bumpers a bit...

The rear got sucked into the car 3/4", narrowed 1 1/4", and the sides shortened 2". We have a nice 1/8" gap on everything now...

Nice work getting those pipes through there.

Also I prefer the bumper slash too...over cutting the body and tucking it in. So much cleaner.

Going great.

Thanks Dan!

We have been busy in the shop!!!

The Camaro is progressing well, we hope to have it in primer in the next few weeks!

With all the Fab work done, we dropped it off to Northwest Powder Solutions again to have the body blasted before we start bodywork. http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/F1CC8604-34D2-49F1-98B4-C420822EB5BE.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/F1CC8604-34D2-49F1-98B4-C420822EB5BE.jpg.html)

When we got it back, everything got sealed up and we started finishing the bottom and inside of the body. The frame rails got sprayed satin black then the floor inside and out got sprayed with bedliner.http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/fiveone00/68%20Camaro/CDD98742-616E-4FD0-A2F2-A423B135BEE0.jpg (http://s461.photobucket.com/user/fiveone00/media/68%20Camaro/CDD98742-616E-4FD0-A2F2-A423B135BEE0.jpg.html)

I guess I have to be the one to bump this thread. Is the project still active, or did it finish long ago and I missed it?

And a quick question was the oval tube sourced from Burns?

Thanks
