Anyone here going to this:

http://www.norcal-saac.org/fallclassic/

I've been on the 5 mile course for two sessions, it's the closest thing we've got to the 'Ring in this country. I'm going to sign up ...

Edit: I'm signed up for both days. I think I saw a familiar name already on the entry list :)

Please check with Greg Weld to validate your attendance at this event. He may appear with a car that will be shinier and faster than ever before...

It will look something like the following:

I really want to make this event but I have been working 7 days a week and am on the schedule to do so until the end of October. In addition I have a detached shop/garage being built at my house that is taking up my time.

Crossing my fingers that I can squeeze this one in but its not likely.

Both my cars are signed up for both days. We'll mostly be working with the Mustang set up... and when I feel that's under control -- I'll run the little Lotus a bit on Sunday.... or if the new motor can't make a full weekend (once again),

Looks like Willows is 7 1/2hrs from Portland...if I'm looking at it right. I may blast down Saturday night and check out Sundays action.

I imagine spectating and wandering the pits would be worth the drive, does the event allow passengers?

Yes it does allow passengers. Bring a helmet and driving suit and gloves if you have them. Your outfit has to match what the driver requirements are.

You'll have friends there that will give you a ride.

Come gets your tires and wheels.

Sounds good, it'll make for a fun weekend. Should I bring yellow pants or green pants? :knokwood:

I can't sit on the cooler?

You know how these things work, I figure I'll show up with my gear and if anyone wants 245lbs of ballast I'll be good to go!

You gonna be there?

SEMA is the same time as our anniversary and with kids in school and sports........T-Hill could be a career limiting move.

It's certainly not lack of desire!

If they allow or have a viewing area up on the hill between the new and old tracks a pair of 10x binocs could make it a great viewing spot.

I'm happy to take passengers for whoever shows up. There aren't many orange 69 Camaros at these things, so you'll find me :)

Looking forward to meeting you, famous Mr. Weld :)

Being new at this I had to go back and read through your mustang thread....you know I don't wanna look silly:lol:

"I was looking at the safety requirements for the Northern California Shelby Club Thunderhill event... and noticed that I had to have cotton pants (long) in Yellow, Red and Green.... Also a long sleeve cotton shirt - same colors..... and a 4 point harness in Green...."

Glad the lil scoot worked out. With the AEV jeep, mountain bikes, old skooly truck, Gwen's 33 and skis.... you've got it all covered! Now you just need a house!

It's not a sign -- it's a mock up build of a corner of the house so we could see the stone work with the siding and the roof material. The excavator operator was going to let me crush it -- but the builders didn't want me to destroy it yet. You're seeing the back of the scaled down roof.

No doubt someone will spray paint Charley's favorite saying before the job is done.

GregWeld

This is not the thread for this - but here's the "not to scale" mock up that you thought was a sign.

Just look for the slow one at the back of the pack. You will be very disappointed I can assure you.

PS --- Danny B.... Lillard should be there and so far I see Chet is signed up as well as Pete and Mike... and they'll take you for rides. Mike runs his NASCAR and it's amazing to ride in. The thing is on rails! Sittner might be there as well and he'd also let you ride. You just need the appropriate gear to match the driver requirements of Green Group for ride alongs as we all run that group.

The headers wore thru, cracked developed in Texas so shes running waaaaay rich. Hooker headers i put on it (via what i saw at SEMA last year) hung bout an inch/inch and half lower that what they had on their display....So middies are on there way. Went from 24 mpg highway to 16 and no power....

You'll have to watch for excessive oil use now...

Great day at the track on Saturday. The new two mile section of the track is very technical and pretty tight. Due to the elevation changes with blind turns on the new portion of the track it is way easier to run in a lead/follow format with someone in front of you that knows the track well.
I really enjoyed it and it reminded me of driving down a windy mountain road only on this mountain road it was legal to put the pedal to the metal and hammer through the sweepers.

My first time on that new section of track. Not much fun at first until you start to get it memorized. Very tight turns that really make me wish I had power steering in my Shelby. Chet killed two power steering pumps and I suspect it was the new section of track.

Glad I made the drive down for Sundays action, bummer I missed out on meeting Ron and Charlie....maybe next time. I worked with Chet on his ps issues, him and his wife are great people, a mad man behind the wheel! Complete blast riding shotgun for the laps he was able to put in before the flag came out.

First time for me at Thunderhill. I loved the entire track! Two totally different courses that connect well and challenge any level of driving skill.

You rode with Chet! :confused59:

J/K Chet and his wife are great people, and yes the mild mannered man can wheel that pony......when it isn't broken!

How were T5 & T9 riding shotgun?

DBasher

The up and overs, the blind drops, the, "oh **** what have I gotten myself into" turns? LOVED EM! I think my feet came off the floorboard! I liked 9 more just because of the approach. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems 5 is a lift, roll through and power down the backside deal. 9, the car is angry and violent, bangin gears and heavy on the throttle. Both the car and driver are really working, the banked turns are a rush!

I thought 14-15 were sketchy as a passenger. It's the fastest part of the track with heavy braking...you just gotta trust the equipment and the guy behind the wheel, that's what I was telling myself anyways!

Lots of fun!

Great event. Weather was basically perfect, the corner stations were almost fully manned, the run groups were small enough to have plenty of room on the 5 mile course (at least mine was). The first day, some folks were pretty slow on the new section, even in our Green/Blue advanced group. But the pace picked up a lot the second day.

I really like the 5 mile course now. Compared to the Northwest tracks I'm used to, it has something for everyone. The old section is fast and mildly technical, but much more entertaining than, say, Portland International. The new section, as Gaetano says, is tighter, slower, and a lot more technical - like Oregon Raceway Park. The thing I like about the new section is, there really is no "school line" for much of it. I was chasing down a couple of Miatas early the second day, and then just sat back for a couple of laps watching their lines. The "momentum" line was clearly quite different than the "horsepower" line through a lot of the back section.

And I got to meet Greg, Charlie, Gaetano, and Run Sutton. Four members of the Lat-g All Star team :) I saw Charlie in the registration line, and said, "you must be Charlie Lillard". His response was, "That depends. Do I owe you money?" When I told him who I was, and what I was driving, he said (presumably tongue in cheek) "I hate Camaros". Which explains why he only has like 10 of them :)

I had lunch with Chet and his wife on Sunday
I not only sold him the GT350 clone
I also sold him a 69 camero shell
His project is a Trans am clone
It is now a roller and will soon be out
at the track

Funny how these drag racers find out
that going round and round both left and
right is a gas. You should see his 57 blown
Drag car. Absolutely beautiful

I finally pulled the Pantera off the trailer
Was thinking about crossing it this weekend
but rain tomorrow. Hope to change shocks and
sway bar on the bird and maybe cross it Sunday
as the weather should be good and I really need to
get that car sorted out

Houbaug and Maier will more than likely be there
as it is the last race for American autocross series
Love to see those CP cars run

Dropped the 69 off at the shop to have a couple of little issues diagnosed. While there, it got nailed in the rear by a POS C3 Vette with failed brakes. It's survived probably 100 individual track sessions without so much as a scratch, then gets crunched in a 2 MPH incident inside the shop.

Anybody know where I can buy an NOS tail panel?:G-Dub:

Steve' camaro's in South Sf used to
Have a bunch of Nos stuff. I have not
been there in many years

Had a guy back into my firebird earlier
this year was over $2$ to fix
He wanted to pay me direct so I said
$1500 I ordered a carbon fiber tail over glass
(Got rid of the painting part). A goodmark bumper
and had enough left to buy Viking coil overs with lighter
Springs and a new rear sway bar. Just a little labor for me
