So I applied for classic car insurance from these yahoos and get denied coverage. First off, they have insurance for stock and modified cars. I apply for modified and answer all questions honestly...my mistake I guess! My first reason was that my engine had been beefed up to a little over 500HP. Anything over 500 and your'e denied. Most musclecars of the 60's had over 400 at the crank. So I get denied for having an extra 100. They also deny cars with roll cages. Guess they don't know that cages make the car stiffer and handle better making it safer than stock. Denied!! I also was too honest and said that I would be taking the car to amateur track events and autocrosses. So hitting orange cones in a big-ass parking lot is also a no-no.
So my lesson learned is don't upgrade your chassis or engine to make the car safer and more fuel efficient or else the Prius desk jockeys will shoot you down. Oh and don't be honest with these folk. Just lie your ass off!! Thanks JC!!

Lying can be grounds for claim denial. Just try another carrier.
And cages don't make cars safer on the street, but I digress.

No matter what insurance carrier you get,you will not have coverage once on the drag strip or autocross course

Your regular coverage won't cover it, but Hagerty has something for "track use" in addition to the normal coverage. I'm looking into it as I want to track my car once a year.
I'd try other carriers.

Hi JC,
I read the post. JC Taylor is one company that I do not use for the reason that you mentioned. I insure heavily modified cars with no problems with my companies. What I have to do is send the company pictures & specs of the vehicle to get pre-approval. Ninety percent of the time I get the okay to write it. The one thing classic car companies do not want is for the car to be used in races. For that we have to go to a specialized type Lloyds of London type of company & that could be costly due to the risks involved. If you like please contact me & I can discuss options. Like I have mentioned in earlier posts I am not tied down to one company. If I get a rejection from Classic Collectors I can check other companies. Take care & hva e great weekend!!

The national corvette museum just built a roadcourse (freaking awesome) and are having some trackdays coming up. There is coverage for it that is offered it. on a 90k car they want about 500bucks for one day:confused59: It cost $$ to play and be covered i guess.

I got denied at several companies, because of the supercharger engine. Currently at 841hp. Call Heacock classic. http://www.heacockclassic.com, they have 3 different underwriters to use.

My client with the Chevelle had similar problems... too much HP plus he wanted to drive it on a regular basis... his old insurance company told him no way. He called Infinity and got a stated value policy without an issue, and brought his DB9, his Range Rover and his $3m house with him.
I helping a client right now that is trying to get a $325k car insured through State Farm who has the rest of his collection and they are asking for everything short of the blood type of the guy who manufactured the parts in the car.
Every insurance company is different... try someone else!

Just be aware that stated value does not guarantee a certain payout in the event of a total loss. You need agreed value for that.

Jody's correct.
Unfortunately, it seems that to get an agreed value policy your usage needs to be almost exclusively in connection with car events.
I talked to a number of companies and brokers about the planned use of my car for independent (i.e., not Power Tour) trips cross country and up and down the west coast and for the occasional trip into town. In each case, my car would not have been covered under an agreed use policy when used in such a fashion.
I was assured that I could get the car insured, but I didn't want to find myself without insurance because I was using it outside of the policy requirements.
As a result, I've got a stated value policy and will get an annual appraisal to try to improve my chances of a decent settlement in the event of a claim.
