My very first 3D cad. It's one of my rims with the right dimensions.

What do you guys think about it?

That's pretty impressive for a first try. Gotta love the rotate profile curve and replicate object commands! One critique, if I may. You probably noticed this but the holes in the center look like they're inches deep rather than like 1/8" stamped steel part.

Nice job...now on to the rest of the car..ha ha!

I am using Autodesk Autocad 2005. Thinking of try one of the older 3Ds Max aswell. But i dont know whitch one is the best for making complete cars with. Autocad seams a bit hard to make a complete car in.

hey thats looks great for a first go at autocad!

i camt really say there is anthing wrong with it.

and if u want to try one of the older versions of max, ive used it since max 6 and the modeling process i use have not changed significaly.

like poly by poly, splines, or box, they have really stayed the same over the releases.

Thanks Tom! What technique do you use when you make body panels do you start with boxes or is there another way of making them?

nar, i don’t use box modelling, I never have used it, I have heard it either works well or fails terribly.

I use more of a poly by poly system

There is a great video tutorial at http://www.3d-palace.com/
If u got to free tutorials and then to the 3d max part and then look for the “The Audi A3 Tutorial for 3ds Max – Intermediate”

It’s a good tutorial even if you’re a just starting out, that whole site is good, I have learnt a lot of it and I still learn stuff of it now

Thanks for the link Tom. I have sarted working with 3ds max 5 now. It's alot more dificult than Autocad, but i belive when you know how it works it's easier to make hole models than in Autocad. Autocad seams to be made for making bluprints.

you will find that over time like everything max will become easies to use and easies to learn new stuff in

if you have any question about max, just post them and i will do my best at anwsering them :)
