Can you imagine what Wally Parks and some of the "originals" would say about a LOW 6 second door car that drove that many miles this week?!!:waveflag:
Awesome!:king:

And this is with just a few passes down the 1320 to get the truck sorted. Next year, it's going to absolutely obliterate everything else.

I can't wait.

Yeah I think Tom Baily and Steve Morris missed their last opportunity to win Drag Week? Or at the very least they will have to step up their game BIG TIME!!!

I heard Baily in an interview that Sick Second had a 6.30 in it and thought wow that's fast. Well Larry Larson showed why he is still the man to beat!

Still glad to see Jeff Lutz get the win for this year, congratulation Jeff!!

Man that is mind blowing speed and ET. Pretty cool that the record now lives in the states now. On to the 5s!

I can't quite tell how much was left when he dropped the laundry, but I'm sure it killed some mph on the top from what it looked like.

Talking to some drag racing friends of mine(Dave Bowman, look him up), his 1/8 mile speed mph was on pace to run a 5.9xx. If you watch the video from bangshift they even said he pulled the chutes early.

We were up running the Governors cup this weekend and on the way up my buddy was laughing that some people thought he was capable of running in the 5's. I agreed with him saying some people just don't realize how freakin fast that is and what it takes, even in a full on pro mod car. Well It looks like we might be wrong. He's got an incredible combo with that thing to say the least!
( I guess I should know better that anything can happen after those side by side 5.4 doorslammer passes in st Louis a few weeks ago!!! )

I'd be curious to see how much time he would give up if the only change to the car from street mode was slicks and on car adjustments like shock adjustment computer tune, fuel switch... Though impressive, I was not thrilled to see that the rad, fuel tank, doors and all were dropped to make the conversion.

This is the 2nd reference I've seen to rebuilding the truck to make the runs, but its not on that video. Can you provide a link to where they are re-configuring to make a pass ?

Not sure of a link, but what they did was take it from a street truck to a race truck.

The truck is a steel body full race chassis race car. Larry was running against light weight full carbon body race cars. So they would change the cooling, fuel, and tires from street setup to full race setup. Also they would change the doors from steel to carbon as well. I'm sure he could have built it more duel function but he would not have run that number with out the changes.

It is true that every team including the slower guys, even the daily driver class did the switch over, tires, tune, etc. after our 9 hour drive between tracks. Hell the hotel parking lots looked like the Gator Nationals every evening.

To run low 6's everything has to be perfect or there will be catastrophic consequences. You didn't see to many 6 sec. passes where the laundry didn't get dropped early because everything wasn't just so. No question in my mind that Larry's truck has a 5 sec pass in it if the conditions are right. Larry and Chad ended up on the side of the road well after midnight swapping out rocker arms, they didn't make it back to the hotel until 3am. Saw Bailey roll out of his car after 9 hrs of driving, layed on the hotel lawn for 30 minutes because his back was locked up. This is a true torture test.

I was a bit skeptical as to calling some of the cars street cars at first. Then I drove in Drag Week. Any car, and team that can survive that punishment, while pulling a trailer over some of the worst roads I've driven on, earned that designation.

I think it is the evolution of the competition. And creativity is strong in this event and that is what interests me more then ever before. Some one figuring out how far they can work the Gray area of the rules.

I'm all for it.

Heres the video of the switch.

Heres the article detailing the truck and what is done to swap over to the race version.

"Part of the truck’s Doomsday strategy is removing “unnecessary parts” for the drag strip. That includes the gasoline fuel cell, pump, and fuel filter mounted in the bed of the truck. It also includes the truck’s aluminum radiator, cooling system, and side-pipe exhaust. On the track the truck’s steel doors are replaced with carbon-fiber versions."

One of my favorite stories below... No trailer, no tire swap, and all steel.

Kline was hilarious to follow, had big rubbermaid bin hanging from the wheeliebars to carry his stuff. We laughed every time we saw it.

Kline is the real deal to me. To average 6.87 with a best pass in the 6.7s without towing a trailer and swapping tires is just plain impressive. Awesome to see him perform so well after last year's misfortune.
