So this weekend we are at USCA Michigan International Speedway, getting ready to hit the autox after lunch. Tom Farrington comes over and says hey the MAV TV guys want to interview you and Jill about families and couples in the sport. I was ohhkaay...
They put mics on us and took us out by some trailers and started asking questions. Chad asked Jill if she wanted to tell me something about my birthday present...I'm like I already got it, a new radio for the Chevelle. Then she points over to Farringtons truckand trailer, that I never saw drive up, and says Happy Birthday!

This was on the trailer!http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb476/65_LS1_T56/65%20NH%20Malibu/New%20Parts/20140823_165857_zps1l3xkwoh.jpg (http://s1207.photobucket.com/user/65_LS1_T56/media/65%20NH%20Malibu/New%20Parts/20140823_165857_zps1l3xkwoh.jpg.html)

Lol, heck I don't event know what it really is, but according to the 20 plus people that knew this was going on behind me, this is the motor (!) http://www.mastmotorsports.com/view.php?id=525&c=3&s=6

That's actually the coolest part of the deal..she's been working on it, and keeping a secret since we went to Goodguys Nashville, then on to Daytona for the USCA event there. I can't keep a secret that long.

I felt like I was on Overhaulin' except I have to do all the work! lol

Thanks Ron, wished you could've been there too. The engine is super bad awesome, can't wait to hear it run. But, the real cool part was how the whole deal went down. I was completely taken off guard, and the camera footage will show that. I did a double take at the motor, then I scanned the crowd of friends gathered around that were there. Awesome. Great day to be me

And thanks to everyone that I didn't respond directly to, I come back after the USCA Event at MIS and find 3 pages of replies! She is great, all my car friends are too. It's incredible to be able to spend time with her and with all of them together, if that makes sense.

So yeah, MIS... Came back with my first real "hardware" from an event. I was awarded the Ridetech Renegade Award! Super honored to get that as I feel it fits my philosophy of what I wanted to build. A budget (that's blown now, see Mast Motor pics above, lol) build that I could drive everyday and yet take to events and be somewhat competitive and at the least be noticed for trying. The car ran a performed exceptional all weekend. I was a little sidetracked after recieving the birthday gift (see Mast Motor pics above!) so I struggled a little in autox but ended up with a respectable time at the end of the session.

I had a blast on the roadcourse today though. MIS is pretty intimidating speed wise so there was a chicane coming out of 4 that forced a 2nd gear change and some sawing of the wheel to slide thru. Problem was not the chicane, but you speed coming upto it was 120's for me anyway. That got pretty intense a few times there. I made some small changes thru the day, but the car really was working well. So much fun.

I have always said they're are 2 different kind of wives/girlfriends we car guys have.

One that deals with our obsession and one that excepts our obsession.

Hey Bob, well she put all her engine spec-ing trust in my great friend, and brother-from-another-mother, Tom Farrington (tommycomfort). Tom is a Mast dealer now. So with his personal experience and the expert collaborations with Billy Utley (72novadriver), this is the motor they came up for me. My wife trusted both of their inputs and pulled the trigger on this back in May. Pretty cool.
Sounds like you have a keeper too! Congratulations.

As long as we are talking about great wives, I need to chime in. The highlights... for my 60th birthday in January, she gave me a shifter kart class at Bondurant, AND an XTreme Driving Ferrari experience in Chicago in May. Oh yeah, she also told me last December if I was gonna retire, I needed a new toy, spent 4 days at Barrett-Jackson while I checked out every P/T Camaro & Corvette in the house, and sat right next to me when I dropped big bank (for us) on a '69 Camaro. The icing? She has been very patient as "creeping luxuries" have taken over the new cave addition... complete with a 12 foot vaulted ceiling for a 2 post lift!

My fat a** in a kart..

I think that is actually SW's old Camaro that DSE did for him. BTW - shop looks great!! To clean to work in though! :)

It used to be S.W.'s. He sold it several years ago to a friend of his, who sent it back to DSE for a Quadra-link & FAST F.I. That guy brought it to B-J. The karts were a blast, but I'm a bit hefty for them. I barely fit into their fat-guy kart. I could hardly breathe wedged in it. The acceleration when you're 2" off the ground is plenty awesome!
I really wanted to do the C-7 Vette experience, but it was full. Plus, my wife reminded me I had already spent quite enough for one week!

Thanks. It is no "Weld's Shed", but I like it. It is too clean to do heavy work in, but I know my limitations. I can handle wrenches, not welders. I would much rather pay someone that knows what they're doing, then hose it up myself, especially on a nice car. Mine has had too many guys that do great work to mess it up now. I had to repair the front suspension after the coil over conversion failed this spring. Took it to a very proficient rod builder & it is better than new now, and only took them about a week to fix it. That job would have taken me all summer (which is only about 3 months long here)!

AH HA -- YEAH!! SW's.... I spoke too soon. I knew I recognized the car. They're very similar except SW's was nicer, faster, and he drove it better. LOL

I've done Bondurant several times now -- wish it helped my driving, but that's another issue.... With the Karts - you accelerate into the corner... I'd haul down the front straight and bang down an gear and punch it... and you're pulling like 2 G's.... they're so much fun!

This is the only school other than Dirt Fish - where the instructors actually WANT you to go faster (if you're good enough). All the other schools that I've taken are more of a take the money and show 'em a good time. The guys at Bondurant dissect your every move and discuss how to carry your speed etc - and will raise your game if they think you are capable (you have to show you can do what they're asking of you). One school won't make you AJ Foyt... but they sure will give you some building blocks to make you better.

Y'all did good.

Hey I hope it works for you Lance! It's the subtle hints...or the constant nagging...that eventually they'll pick up what you're laying down

Thanks, I'm not the most comfortable person in front of the camera though. The crew came over last Wednesday for another interview at my house. Don't get me wrong, they are great guys and easy to talk to, just not my thing.
