View Full Version : Paint shops in the south?

Hoping to get paint lined up before long. Knowing some of these shops have a waiting list I figured it would be best to start this few months in advance.

Ideally the shop would be close so I could check on progress. However, for the right shop I'd be willing to travel up to few hours out of state (Alabama).

Honestly this stage of the build is most concerning to me. There are plenty of horror stories out there dealing with "paint prison". Estimates are often all over the map. Higher prices don't necessarily mean a better job either. This can be a "pay to play" hobby and I think there are plenty out there taking advantage of that.

My car is blasted and sheet metal already all replaced. My expectation is that limits the "surprises" that often blow estimates.

I'm not looking for Riddler, AMBR, etc level job. I want a good, clean job with no cut corners and quality products (Sikkens, Glassurit, etc). What I don't need is a 200 hr cut and buff job at $100/hr :).

If you have any shop suggestions in the area I'd appreciate it. Goolsby is down the street and more than capable obviously. I fear they may be out of my league now given their recent rise to fame, SEMA awards, etc. :-).

Thanks!

Goolsby did my friends car and the level of detail was very impressive, I think he gives quotes so its worth looking into.

You can also check out Performance Car Craft in Alabaster, I worked there a while back. They also put out some nice cars.

Higgins (spelling) did a full build on a friends 66 pickup, they did a good job on it too but I havent heard much about else about them. I think they mainly do collison repair.

Good luck

Just curious, who did your blasting and how much? I need my whole under side and inside done on one of the camaros.

I'd be telling a lie if I said I hadn't previously considered the Dutch Boys. They have produced some awesome rides out of their shop. I guess I'll at least give them a call to discuss the project.

Michigan is just a LONG way from B'ham. When my car was at the fab shop that was 7+ hr drive each way and it was tough. Being close enough to visit at critical points, etc is a big deal I think. Maybe that isn't as big of a deal during the paint stage since most decisions have been made. Going north 8+ hrs has the added trouble of snow which makes timing the project that much more critical.

John, Thank you for the kind words. We are working very hard up here to produce some really quality work. I have a great team of guys that work very good and close together.

Feel free to give us a call. We would love to talk to you some more about your project.

Check out Bob Johnson that owns Dallas Collision in Dallas, GA. Pretty sure that he's a member here and has painted/built plenty of top notch stuff. 770-443-9648
