Yup..... The one you see in my avatar!

Technically, I did have a car "before" the 69, but I don't count it (mainly cause I don't have it now, ha!) because I wasn't even 15 when I got it and sold it when I was 15 to get the 69. Which was in '89.

I still have my 68 z28. I bought it in 84. I rode motorcycles prior, so never owned a car.

I bought it for my wife (newly married) I ended up using it as my daily driver till 89. It has been in enclosed storage since 1991.

I have the protecto plate, and sales receipt from Dana. It still has it's original drivetrain. Just missing an original fan clutch. No accidents, no rust.

It currently is in pieces slowly being restored. Hopefully I will finish it this winter.

1. Do you still own your first car? Make and model? Yes, 1978 z28

2. Backstory and what are your plans? When I was 16 my father and I drove 5 hours to the rod run in Pigeon Forge Tennessee and found a 78 z28 my buddy spotted the previous day. Im thinking about building a sema car out of it.

Nope, and don't even want it. My first car was a 1987 Pontiac Sunfire. Got it so cheap because it needed a new motor and it was bought from the next door neighbor. Bought it for $150 and put a junkyard motor in it. Even after the motor swap, it still ran like $150 car. Mainly because the junkyard motor wasn't all that. But, hey...it got me around town and I was the man being in the 9th grade and one of the few fellas who had a car and could get to and from football practice and all the weekend party's. To the young ladies though, you would have sworn it was a Rolls Royce. :lmao:

Yep still have it! 74 Vega I purchased at 14 (1982) with money saved from part time jobs, when everybody had or wanted a v8 Vega. I bought a wrecked v8 Vega shortly after for a parts car and with help from my Dad, transfered all the parts over and got it running at about 16. The next few years slowly transfered into a race car and ran a 10.04 best before parking it in my mid twenties to save for a house, family ect. Its been through a couple moves and still sits in my garage with over15 years of dust on it. Not sure what I'll ever do with it as I now have a 7 second Nova that fills my drag racing "itch". But I cant ever sell it at this point. Maybe dust it off and bring it back to life when I retire someday in the far distant future. I cant see myself golfing or fishing!

Still have and drive my '59 Willys pickup. The only changes I've made are adding a V8, bigger tires and an overdrive last year. I fried the overdrive a couple of weeks ago unfortunately.

My uncle and I bought it for $250 when I was about 14 or 15 years old. Then we bought another parts truck for $100 and made one good one out of the two. It was a complete frame-off "restoration". I put that in quotes as I only had so much money to spend and it was more like a rebuild and repaint. It ended up costing me less than $3000 with the biggest expense being the actual rebuild on the engine. There were pistons with holes melted right through them.

It was done in time for my junior year in high school.

Makes you appreciate your vehicle a lot more when you've personally handled every nut and bolt that it's made from.

My first car - which is LONG GONE.... was a '56 Chevy Bel Air dr hdtp.... with a 302 (a 327 with a 283 crank). I have pictures of the white "heat painted" headers after someone told me to adjust the valves "hot" --- they just didn't tell me not to adjust them with it RUNNING.... OH.... that was a hot smokey disaster.

Mine was a 65 GTO, 389/3 duce 4 speed I bought for $500.00. I loved that car and kept it immaculate. I sold it when I was a junior in college (yes,I kept it and drove it to college) to finance a summer job in Lake Tahoe. It was the best car traded for the best summer of my young life. They guy I sold it to still owns it, and sez he'll sell it to me when he doesn't like walking into his garage and looking at it anymore.

This is a thread for FIRST cars still owned lol.

1. Do you still own your first car? Make and model?

Yes I do. 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, base model 307/3spd

2. Backstory and what are your plans?

When I was growing up my dad and my brother worked together to rebuild a 67 mustang for him for his first car. I decided at that point I wanted either a 69 camaro or a 69 mustang. After long searching my parents found a 69 camaro and surprised me with it on my 13th birthday.

They actually left my birthday party (with my oldest brother [19] to supervise), and left to inspect the car as the "thrifty nickel" had just come out for the week and it was a new listing.

My parents were the 2nd people to see the car and quickly struck a deal for $2,000 for the running/driving 307/3spd numbers matching car (man I miss car prices from the 90s). It was primer grey, he had just redone the interior in black and rebuilt the front end.

The first guy that stopped by called when my parents were there but they'd already made the deal! The car was originally hugger orange and white interior. However as mentioned it was stripped and primered when I picked it up.

It didn't take long to grow tired of the 3spd and the 307, so I built a 355 w/ Super T-10 4spd for the car and drove it like that through highschool. With the help of MAACO the car was painted yellow w/ black stripes (stupid decision and i've since rectified that).

Car got parked while I went to college, and lived briefly as a LT1/T56 powered car (driven for approx 1yr with that combo).

My dad sent it to me as soon as college was completed and it waited for me to have the time/patience/finances to start the restoration/modification. Details on that can be seen in my build thread (link in my signature).

3. Picture then and now

Dont have pictures of it in primer or when I first got it (unfortunately) but i have pictures before the restoration started.

Yes. The Streetfighter Camaro. Bought in '81 or '83 or something at tender age of 13. After seeing the movie Corvette Summer I had to have a car to build from scratch like they did in the movie. Drove my parents crazy 'til it happened.

Starting with an $800 6 cyl powerglide ex-rental car, it's been through many lives, returned from the dead after a near fatal crash, has one of the very first aftermarket subframes, been across the country a few times, and spawned a business in Twist Machine. It has a worn-in feel.

It's a permanent part of the family.

1971 Buick GS convertible w/ Stage 1 455.

Bought it when I was 14 from my uncle. He bought it from my grandfather who was a salesman at a local Buick dealership. My grandfather had sold the car new to a couple, they owned it for a short time (not sure how long) and traded it in. My uncle also worked at the dealership and bought it.

I'll post some pics later.

My first car is my current project.

I bought my 1967 RS Camaro in 1983 at age 18, but I bought my 67 out of a barn. I had plans in the past for my 67 Camaro, but lacked the funds to do it. My project started in 2004 as a backyard build with a friend's garage.

The current parts list includes, DSE subframe, DSE Quadra-Link, Baer Extreme 14" brakes all around, Ford 9-inch, Fikse 5S Wheels, Vintage Air, ISIS Power, AutoRad, LS418 with LS9 Supercharger, Bowler 4L80-E with twist machine shrifter paddle shifter, custom new vintage gauges, etc. My friend's dad built the custom center dash out of metal, and smoothed the subframe in lead. Matt at Sled Alley is doing more sheet metal work on my 67 Camaro, so expect some custom sheet metal work in the engine compartment. (Custom engine mounts like on Camaro XV)

I don't have an old photo in electronic format.

Here is a photo about a year ago.

I know I do not post on very much but I thought I would add to this thread. The car sold new at my local Chevy dealer to a guy here in town in early 1970 (late build 69). His neighbor bought it from him in '72 and she drove it until 1978 when she pulled out in front of someone and was t-boned.. The car sat until my father was talking to a guy and he was telling him about a '79 Camaro that might be for sale. We didnt think much about it but I thought that might be an OK first car. When my father talked to the guy again; he said did I say 79?? I meant 69... At that point, I was in. We went to look at it in Nov of 1989 and brought it home. After several hours on a frame machine, body work the car was repainted in Rallye Green (I hated Frost Green at the time; wish I wouldnt have been so ignorant at the time). Once the car was finished and road worthy we took it back to Mrs. Brockett (2nd owner) for her to see the car could be fixed (when she wrecked the car the insurance totaled the car and she just bought it back thinking she might get it fixed one day). When we pulled up she came out and first things out of her mouth were; "I see you put one of those "humps" on the hood.. And you added that "flip" on the trunk.." Needless to say, she was happy to see the car again on the road. When I was a senior in high school I pulled the 307, powerglide & 10 bolt out and slide in a mild built 350, Muncie M20 & a 12 Bolt with 3.55 gears. I still have the car and once I finish my other projects it will return as a LS turbo powered drag radial car one of these days.
