my new paint booth

I just got my new paint booth to where I could use it for the first time today, I really got tired of priming or painting parts and then having to close the shop down the rest of the day to let it dry (if it was actual paint,not primer) !

now at least all my tools and my Yukon wont get overspray on them all the time, I still have to run new air lines and I ordered a new devilbiss water separator for the air line.

it gets pretty hot inside if I have to close the doors to paint parts for columns, I think I hit the nail on the head with this one ! I luv my new booth !

I primed these parts this afternoon and it was really nice to have a clean shop to be in between coats !

I took 7 days off 2 weeks ago and done the room ,painted everything and put up the lights. now I am paying the price of having to catch up from when I was doing this :) but I am blessed to have work and also to be able to work at home, I always say "god will provide" and he does !

I don't want to rain on the parade, because I think you built a cool deal for home hobbiest work. But, please be careful posting images like this for your business. There a very specific regulations regarding paint booths and safety. I am not an expert per say but have had to spec these in the past for shops I put together. I can tell you that most likely the fan you show and the lights are not rated as explosion proof and are a major OSHA safety issue. I'm not saying I wouldn't do the same thing at home, but if this is your place of business home or not, you may not want to post pics of it in a public forum. I mean no disrespect and and only say this as a manor of community advice. If I am wrong, I apologize. Better safe than sorry.

yeah, I thought of that also, but most of the reason I put these up is to show I do not use spray bombs on my columns , I only use automotive paint, I am going to take your advice , but I want to leave it up for a little longer then take it off, this is the only place I posted this , no the fan and the lights are not explosion proof, but I don't put off hardly any overspray anyway and also I still have to build the box to hold the filters for air intake and over the fan, I did buy the real paint booth filters though :)

I had a paint booth in Missouri in my old shop I built street rods in, I built it myself with metal studs and metal walls all the lights were behind the glass with the wires in it , it was all metal and was about the most awesome booth I have ever painted in, to bad I was stupid and sold the shop :(

That's really cool man. I like the lighting you chose for it. I manage a large production collision shop and I'd have to agree with ccrain- replace that fan. Years ago when we painted solvent I saw a fan that a painter took into a both poof into a light show when overspray got into it. It's the overspray that you can't see or smell that ignites, not the heavy stuff that collects. Buy a sealed fan from MSC Industrial supply for $350 and be done with it. God forbid, but should you have a fire, that thing will take the whole house out and I'd be surprised if your insurance covered it since it's a commercial activity being performed in a residence. Also really watch you ventilation as well. You can duct a 6 inch tube from Home Depot out of that room and into a filter outside of the structure that'll take care of that issue. A sealed fan inside will work.

I'm in no way criticizing your investment because I think what you've done is awesome. I love it when people get creative to that extreme. I just wanted to throw my 2 pennies in from a safety sake. Have fun man! Great stuff.

thanks all for comments on the booth, with those I am going to make a few changes next time I work on it , grainger in Pensacola has the right fans , I would hate for it to blow up but the shop is not attached to the house, its about 150 ft away in the back, my water separator should be here soon, when it gets here I am going to run air lines into the booth , put the filters up and a new fan, I don't need a very big one that's why I put that one in, it sucks all the fumes out perfectly ! it was a fan I bought to put on the wall facing where I build columns. after I sell a few more columns I am going to take a few days and make some changes
