I am not sure if this should be in this section or the engine section, so mods feel free to move if necessary :).

Well, I came to the conclusion today that I need a stronger alternator to power all of the things I have going on in my Chevelle. When searching around I came across the MSD Advanced Power System 160amp alternator. Now, the highest I have seen before is 140amp so I am very intrigued by this MSD 160amp application. I am about to order the thing and figured I should check the forums to see if anybody has any positive or negative feedback on this part.

Here's a link to the alternator on MSD's website...

I have a friend that tried one, tested only went 150 amps which was more then enough for him, but I wanted to see what it could do. There has been some negative stuff on them around, but you know how the internet is. I do not like the look, nor the fact you have to buy mounting tabs and pulley seperate. So I have been using Tuff Stuff 140amps. They are testing at 150 amps, are pretty polished, and I get a good deal on them. They are over $100 cheaper then the dressed MSD. Under $300 for the Tuff Stuff.

Thats interesting...

150amps should be plenty better than my current 100amp either way. Thanks for the opinion! Anyone else?

Frank, what's the Tuff Stuff current rating at idle speed?

I could not get a idle rating Scott, I can tell you it turned on very early.

PowerMaster makes a 200 Amp if you need any more power.

I second Powermaster they make lots of high output ones. Lots of people use them in the high performance car stereos.
