315's too wide for a 10" wheel?

After the mini tub on my 66 chevy II, dse says I can fit 11" wide wheels, but I am really having trouble finding a 11" wheel in my budget. Most manufacturers go 9,10,12. I still want to run 315's in the rear so would you think it's ok on a 10" wheel? If you guys have any info or pictures of your tires mounted I'd really appreciate it. Thank you

Yeah Kevin, a 315 is too wide for a 10" wheel.
The range is generally 10.5 to 11.5.

The range actually goes to 12 at least.

Nitto approves up to a 12.5 on a 315.

But yeah I would not do a 10" wheel on a 315. No bueno.

Depends on tire manufacturer. Tire manufacturer goes by measured rim width which could be up to 1 1/4" wider than advertised rim width. So your 10" wheel could actually measure 11 1/4" wide.

no no no they go by bead surface which is the standard measure when ordering wheels. :rules:

I put 315's on a 10.5 and it looked bulgy.

if you on a budget there is always 17 x 11 american racing TTII's I thought I heard they have a sale going on..... $199 each.

Pretty much what I meant to say. Inside to inside of bead surface but thanks Vince. Either way the difference could be up to 1 1/4"

This isn't a "looks" issue.... this is a what is safe and what something IS or IS NOT made for.

Go by the tire manufacturers recommended wheel size for YOUR tire choice.

It's also a performance problem. Putting more rubber on a wheel that's to small will lead to less performance than a properly sized tire.

Ok thank you guys, I won't be putting a 315 on a 10" wheel, I am glad I asked because I searched around and some mustang forum guys were doing just that. I thought it wasn't the best idea but figured I could get a good answer here. Thanks again.
