ok so I have been looking and I cant seem to find this anywhere. I am wanting to get new wheels for my 68 firebird and I want to know the largest wheel/ tire combo and backspacing can go with stock fender wells and suspension. I would like to lower the car 2 inches so I guess the suspension wont be stock. I want to run 18" wheels. any help will be greatly appreciated..
Pete.

I just got new wheels for my 67 Firebird. 18x8 (5" BS) front, and 18x9 (5.375" BS) rear. The 18x9 wheels fit tight at the back ( I would not go any bigger unless the car is mini tubbed). Suspension on my car is stockish with SPC uppers/lowers/2" drop springs front, and 1.5" drop leaves rear.

No pictures of the wheels on the car yet, as I'm waiting for the tire shop to fix 2 leaking valve stems.

Also, if I were to shop for wheels again, I would not get wheels that have the valve stem holes behind the spokes. I had to use flush mount valve stems in order to clear the brake calipers, and so far they have been painful.

Pete, I can bring over a 17x9.5 with 5.5 BS (that is what I am running) if you want to see how that combo works on your car.

Did this ever get tried out. . .I've got some 17x9.5's that I'm going to be putting on my '67 Firebird.

I'm getting ready to take the measurements to figure out what thickness wheel adapters/spacers I need to get them to fit correctly. They are the 4th-gen F-Body Camaro SS or C4 Corvette GS-style 5-spoke wheels that I picked up as a really good deal. . .the backspacing on the rear wheels is like 7 3/8" and my guesstimate was that I would need an ~2" spacer/adapter in the back and my research has said around a 1.7" adapter/spacer in the front. . .these are just temporary wheels/tires while I'm figuring out what 18" rims I want to buy. . .they were only $500 for the set of 4 with good rubber so I couldn't pass them up.

Thanks!

My 67 Firebird is running 325 (mini-tubbed) and 275 (very tight fit).

What size wheels and backspacing if you don't mind???

Stock sub-frame or DSE, SpeedTech, etc.?
