AMSOIL CVT Synthetic Transmission Fluid Information (http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/transmission-fluid/automatic/synthetic-cvt-fluid/?code=CVTQT-EA/?=zo1856266)

I know its not pro-touring but these CVT trannys are an option in lots of cars now. Odds are some of you have one, I do. From the day I purchased the vehicle I have asked the service department about service on the transmission. Their response has been "life time fluid".

Recently a gentlemen I work with who had a CVT transmission in his Prius. That tranny failed and it was nearly 10k to have it replaced. The fluid was not changed in 150k. That car ended up being sold to the dealer for 1k and he bought a car to replace it because it just wasn't worth it.

I sure hope we are not building transmissions to be throw away parts rather then changing a fluid. So needless to say i'm going to change my fluid. I'm glad AMSOIL has developed a product to fill this application.

I have an 07' altima with 3.5 and cvt. I bought it new. First year for cvt in the altima, so I was skeptical. My salesman told me while test driving that the cvt units are non-serviceable. I did a little research and found similar info. I never considered changing the fluid, until about 250k miles in the dealer for an oil change, when the service tech tells me I should change my cvt fluid. I asked him "if it were yours, would you change the fluid at this point, with 250k on the clock?"
He replied "nope!"
I've now got 305k on the car, and original cvt tranny fluid. Zero problems.

It's hard to stomach as the owner when they say maintenance free but they only warranty it for X amount of miles. I hope you continued good fortune with your Altima. Thanks for sharing your experience Scott.

I purchased this car with 87,000 on the odometer. It had a CVT transmission. I could have sworn the tranny was out then. It shifted like no other and seemed to over rev. Kind of how a trans acts when the vaccume modulator is bad. I then got the title paperwork and realized it had changed hands 8 times in 70 odometer miles. It seems that each dealer that purchased it from the auction, took it to their service dept. Then right back to the auction. Then to some sucker like me. I took it back to the dealer and he offered to take it back to the auction. I decided to go ahead and keep the car and took some of the best advice I could get from a dealer....."Drive it until it fails. What have you got to lose? ". I did and as of now I have 156,000 on it. Still whining. Still pulling fine. It whines so bad one day at the store a guy asked if it was an electric car! I have not changed the fluid and drive it hard when I want. 120 miles every day. I plan on driving it until it fails. I am open to opinions, however everyone tells me to leave it alone and whatever I do, don't change it now. I am however glad Amsoil has come out with improved fluid for these transmissions. :computer:
