Trunk whetherstripping question

Hi

I noticed whenever I wash my car that water accumulates in the trunk channel where wetherstripping is placed. As a result of that Evertime I have to remove the wetherstripping, dry the channel area, then place the wetherstripping back again.

So is this the normal practice when washing the car or there is something not right that needs to be addressed?

I think it is supposed to be glued in. The adhesive will seal out the water. At least that is what I do.

Yep, use the appropriate rubber strip glue. Also make sure your seal gap is located near the trunk latch.

3m black weatherstrip adhesive glue is what I prefer. Apply the glue to the weatherstripping not to the channel. Also do it in sections and once applied to the weatherstripping push it in place and carefully lift it up and down. This allows air to get between it and set up faster.

Thanks guys, I do have the 3M wetherstripping adhesive but was not sure where I should apply it. Is it applied on the outer edge of the wetherstripping or the inner edge facing the trunk?

I usually apply it to the bottom surface, if not. Inner surface facing trunk

Apply it to both surfaces, lightly. Much like contact adhesive. We used to call this Gorilla Snot...(was an auto glass guy for 15 years)

You are right applying it to both inner and outer edges woulb better. The main concen is water runs through the channel so applying on the outer surface will prevent water ingress into the channel
