How is correct oil level checked when using ats/petersen sump wich has no dipstick? And is there any tricks how to first start and prime brand new crate ls7?

How big is the tank? I would start out with whatever the manufacturer states the tank size is ( 2.5 gallon...etc). I would pull the spark plugs and fuel pump fuse and roll it on the starter until I saw pressure on the gauge, then reinstall the plugs and fuse. The proper level needs to be checked with the engine running, the oil level should be up to the screen in the tank.

There is no perfect oil line per se such as with a dipstick, but generally your fill amount is going be between 1/2 full and 2/3 full in a tank like this.

Here's how we did the first start up - fill the tank 1/2 way. Prime as Tim suggested above. After running for a few a few minutes, turn the motor off and fill to about 2/3rds, and not above the internal baffle.

Between 1/2 and 2/3 full measured in the tank while running and warmed up. If its too full... it'll puke out the breather (mine resides outside the car or it'll stink it up like crazy inside). Peterson 3 gallon tank with heater and same brand breather. My differential also goes to this breather in my RX-7.

Mine fully dry takes about 14 quarts. Between oil changes it is 10. The rest sits in the -16AN lines running from the pan to the oil tank (behind passenger seat), Setrab oil cooler up front.
