I wouldn't recommend 4". I think they look like crap personally. Unless you need the room under the hood.
You should set up a poll and see what kind of feedback you get.

I think anything above the standard size looks too big. For me, it kinda ruins the clean lines of a Camaro. Just my $.02...it's your car!! :D

4" is too big in my opinion. I'd stay with the stock sizing...

I agree, too big unless you *have* to run it...

I like the hood you have currently, but a 2" cowl will give it more charector plus it will give it more of an agressive and mean look. 4" will just take away from the rest of the car.

I agree 4" is too big. Distracts from the over all look of the car. Just my opinion though. I think the SS hood looks great on your car now.

I like 2". 4" makes it the centerpiece because it really stands out, IMO.
Are you serious??? You have a super cool hood on there right now that you don't see very often. Everybody has 2" cowl hoods and 4" cowls are for covering Holley Dominators and a couple nitrous plates on a sub 10 second car. If your motor fits under the hood you own, save your money!

IMHO...
4" looks out of place unless it is a track only car and it is necessary for under hood clearances.

I have to agree.... You have a tremendously cool hood (weren't we just talking about SS hoods, Jason?) that's not often seen... A creative paint treatment around the factory inserts would wake it up (assuming you're bored with the hood)... I think that an oversized cowl hood would just be overkill, and throw the car's natural balance waaaayyyy off, making it appear nose-heavy, not to mention making it look like some drag strip refugee....
Again, just my opinion...

Haven't we had this discussion before? LOL! As most have said. If you need the clearance, obviuosly run it. If not, I woudn't. IMO, I think it overpowers the car. I personally like the SS hood. It's different. You don't see them them often. But then again I'm a little partial... Car looks great Max!!

I agree, stick with the SS hood or 2" cowl hood, the 4" is a bit much for anything other than a drag car :) .

A 4" cowl hood is run when you HAVE TO RUN IT.. I would keep the SS hood you have or go with a standard cowl hood.
Funny thing is that Penny actually looked pretty good with the 4" hood, but it HAD to be ran due to the engine.

I had one on my car once and it was the most regrettable purchase I ever made. I hated the damn thing so much that I never painted it...just kept it in it's grey gell coat. I sold it at Camaro Superfest to some drag racer for about $25. It was such a relief to get rid of it.
But hey you do what you want...it's your car. :D

Well, its pretty obvious what the concensus is here! LOL thanks for the feedback guys... I was really torn, hood clearance is an issue, but not worthy of the 4" cowl deal. Maybe a 2"... Right now i have a 1 3/4" air cleaner on it and thats it... pretty sad.
Next question... think i could run a hair dryer blower with a stock crank, forged rods/pistons? :D

I'd run a flat hood, but I bought a GM at a deal(cowl)

NO!!! Dont go with a 4" hood!!!
What are your hp goals/boost # to get there? Frank had ATI set mine up for 600 hp. Even though the stock crank should have been fine, while I was buying forged rods and pistons I decided it would be a good time to get the proper forged crank and have it all balanced...cost a little more up front but I see is a cheep insurance!
Ive always liked your SS hood and your car as is. But it is YOUR car. Do what you want!

It's kind of funny because everyone including myself says keep the one you have or go with the standard cowl. You would think they're would be a market for something in between....say 3"?

Max-
Concerning your shorted air cleaner. If you use a LT-1 style base from the early 70's, you will be able to use a full 3" air filter. I had one on my big block with a Strip Dominator intake, which is a tall inatke, and had no issues. It was tight, but it did clear.

If you really want to get creative, take your SS hood (or get a fiberglass replica) and have the center raised up to 2". It would definately be one of a kind. Try a couple pictures on the computer first. Just another idea.
