lamest car collection ever!

The House (& Underground Garage) is in Lake Tahoe. The House was Sold a couple years ago. The Guy had a big collection of cars that aren't in the Video and they were all sold as well. It was a wierd collection though with a lot of the same cars with the plastic still on the seats - as I remember, a bunch of the Ford T-Birds from 10 years ago, Plymouth Prowlers, etc

Actually --- I think I'm going to buy this commercial building. 5250 square feet - TWO 16' high doors - 60' feet deep - built out second floor office (man cave) space. Gas heaters in the ceiling.... bath rooms... floor drains... all for about $74 a square foot. It's a 20 minute drive from my house... but driving in Idaho ain't the same as driving in L A or Seattle.

20 minutes. nothing closer?

There's closer --- but it's also triple the money. And the streets in Ketchum are Old and small... and Ketchum (Sun Valley) really isn't an "industrial" kind of town if you know what I mean. I need a building with some unusually large doors... and ceilings. So that right there is pretty limiting.

A tiny as in teeny lot here in Ketchum is 600K plus -- bare lot... and then it wouldn't be big enough for what I need -- nor could I back the big azz POS inside.

Trust me -- I know what I'm doing and what's around and what I need... if I could do it - it'd already be done!

Stuart -- the area is actually pretty depressed. This is a very transitory area -- lots of people with huge money - but they don't live here. They come and party and eat and ski --- and then go back to LA or wherever their main house is. There were TONS of mega mansions being built here for a long time --- and that supported a lot of hammers and cabinet makers and custom this and that.... now --- only a few of those are still around (the very best managed to hang in there)... and there's a lot of low level 'light industrial' buildings around in the Hailey and Bellevue area... most of which are just not suitable - or big enough - or.... And some are just way bigger than anything I need. So it's kinda like the Three Bears. Too big -- Too small...

There's another building I looked at a year or so ago -- 4 minutes closer -- with 4 HUGE doors -- that's a "bus" building (current occupant). It would need more work to make it something I'd want to have anything to do with.... and more importantly -- it has a 10,000 gallon diesel tank underground (and a pump)... and I don't want anything to do with that liability. The seller would have to remove it and get all manor of certificates that all is okay.

Well, Lance -- there's a plywood sheet over the 3'X3' square hole in the roof where the sawdust vent machine used to be. It was a high end furniture shop. And the building was left unheated and the pipes froze... They have since been repaired. Some of the electrical was just "ripped" out of or off the walls... you know what it's like when someone just moves and leaves the building to the bank. It would cost me some bucks to rehab. Not huge - but I'd have to get an electrician in there --- and I'd have to figure out how to permanently fix the roof.

Both big roll ups would need to be replaced -- they're beat and worn out... plus I don't like 'em. LOL

This is located in a small commercial area just south of the huge airport (joking about the size). It's kind of trashy for my personal tastes -- I'd like something a little more upscale - but that's not to be found around here. There is a vacant lot directly behind this building that's address is the other street -- the lot is actually pretty cheap - and I might just try to buy that as well. I could punch another door out that backside and have myself a drive thru operation!! Would be slick with the rig! Plus it would give me parking space for a normal car hauler which I think I'd like to add to the mix. I could do all of this for less than HALF the cost of nothing but the excavation bid on the home shop. Seriously!

I see him skiing once in awhile -- he always has an instructor with him so he can cut the line.

I absolutely L O V E Jackson Hole area. We'll be down there in March some time. Gwen's old boss from New York City settled there. They have a fantastic home with a big natural pond in back... Last time we were there a Mommy Mouse and her baby came in the yard. Mom watched us watching her... and baby Mousy swam in the pond. It was so cool!

By the way -- who stays friends with their boss from 1977....

I've been looking at buildings for a year or so... as a back up plan. But all along I've been told "no problemo"... Well yeah.. they were right - it's not a problem at all... as long as I'm willing to pay $350 a square foot for 4700 square feet of shop space. I must have forgotten to tell them I used to live in New York City - and that I could build a shop there cheaper!

The good news is I can buy a larger space for 1/4 the cost... and I'd even have room for your car Jeff!

It's a beautiful parcel... But I agree with you... the whole "log cabin" look is really dated. They're not building that style of stuff here anymore. Now it's more "Sun Valley Lodge" look... big square timbers... Montana Mossy Rock for the stone... over the river rock look... and generally a more sophisticated look all around. Still Mountain Lodge... but just not big "cabin" look and feel. The people that built super contemporary over here can't give them away. People don't seem to want a Los Angeles Cliff hanger when they come to the mountains..

I made an offer on a commercial building in Hailey, Idaho this morning. It would give me TWO 16' high shop doors --- the building is 68' deep -- and my rig is 65'... it's 5250 square feet. Needs some TLC -- but I met with contractors there this morning to give me estimates to fix 'er all up good as new.

I didn't want to have it this way -- but I could buy 4 buildings like this for what the shop under the house was going to cost. I'll pull up the big boy britches and just make something else work is all there is to it.

The "garage" space continues to be an issue at the new dump. Now we're working on a separate garage building (free standing) that will be buried in the hillside to the left of the 4 car garage.... We need to retain that hillside anyway -- so a decision has been made to just use a garage to be part of that retainer... WTF -- everybody can use more space! Right now it's looking to be 24 X 26...

I have a bid in on a building down in Hailey -- which will work out very well as a "rig storage and race car shop". Will see if I get that in another few days.

No hidden bodies or fuel tanks in this building.

It will get a full makeover - new roll up doors - rip all the office space out upstairs and re-do that to my liking - fir out the walls with 2X6 and insulate and sheetrock - and do a spray insulation on the ceiling - and turn one of the big roof penetrations into an exhaust with a motorized sky light. Fix up the electrical to my needs.

Pretty straight forward stuff.

I've basically had that for the last 8 years or so... with the
