How could you leave out the frigging Joke, Gas Monkey garage / Rawlings,, It makes me sick,, and what is the name of the Desert guys?? Their junk is also a Joke,,, I'm all in on Chip/Overhaulin:thumbsup: :thumbsup:

My favorite is Graveyard probably because of all the "Mopar Babble" about codes and broadcast sheets/trim tags. I have to give Worman credit he isn't creating the fantasy that a car can go together quickly and be well built. Overhaulin for me is fiction, I have to think some of these cars are thrashed together to make deadlines and compromises are definitely made in those builds ( I heard rumors of a lawsuit over the 442 build as I recall. )

Assmonkey? When they built the Olds powered T/A they were frigging IDIOTS for not calling GM and getting a LS motor/trans kit especially since they were probably in stock at Scoggin Dickey Chevy, I'm sure GM would have sold one to those guys at cost. The Assmonkey Dale Earnhardt Nomad wasn't very impressive either. Looks like they lost their ass on the F40 and it went to the right guy....Reggie!

I feel the F40 build was a sham. Mr. Money pants wanted it built all along and the producers saw a good story to make up.

I love Mopars but I just can't get past Wormans mouth and attitude.

I love Mopars but I just can't get past Wormans mouth and attitude.

His shop is about 20 blocks from my house. I've been in the shop and waited 20+ minutes to talk with him regarding a local transit system expansion and the impact to his business. While waiting I was playing close attention to his operation and his demeanor with the Mopar fanatics from out of state he was talking with and how he interacted with his employees.

You couldn't pay me to watch his show and no way would I do business with him. :secret:

I like Graveyard Carz. I watch it for the comedy aspect of it. He is such a smart ass. Its funny.
It would be like making a show with Rodger at Ironworks with Greg Weld, myself, Doug Renner and a few others. The name calling and the sarcasm would make the show a hit.

Gasmonkey would be a lot better if Rawlings wasn't on it. I watch it for some good entertainment. I think Sue is hilarious and I like Aaron and Casey and Tom. The other thing I like about it is that I could do pretty much everything they're doing.

A lot of this stuff is staged, including pretty much every single price negotiation. American Pickers is too. I heard from a guy that was on there that everything was negotiated before hand and the price they said on TV was inflated more than double what it actually changed hands for.

Until they have a show that actually goes through things step by step intead of glossing over everything that's important all a guy can do is watch for entertainment anyway. There's very seldom anything to actually learn from the shows. Even Jesse James show glosses over mostly everything.

I like wheeler dealers as well.

The shows I don't like are Desert car Kings and that one with the owner who rubs me the wrong way. The strict ex-military guy who treats people like dirt.

I have first hand experience with the Desert Dog guys work. A guy brought me his car that was built there to sort out a few mechanical issues. At 10 feet away its slick nice looking car. Once I got under and inside it was some of the worst fiberglass and bondo rust bucket cover up jobs i have even seen. I told him to sell it for what ever he can get before he hits a big bump in the highway and the 1/4's fall off.

These asses are building a SHOW car tribute,, and they pull the engine 2 times and they look like they have been to a upickit junk yard,and crawled under a leaking junk TA... Along the same lines...with the Detroit Muscle build of their give away Red TA...I was shuddering at the thought of them bolting all of that new suspension stuff up to that nasty old undercarriage. :badidea:

They used to be pretty good about a good cleanup and paint even if rattlecan while things were apart, but they slapped that bad boy back together in a hurry with almost no prep and paint underneath.

I designed some of the toys for that show- we had a license at Jakks Pacific and I made a line of replica vehicles, a competition game called "Junk Jumpin Challenge", and a 2n1 vehicle line we called "super scrappers". We also developed many other concepts that never went through. I also attended a filming of that show when they filmed here in the states. It was the Monster Truck episode with Bob Chandler as the expert consultant. They did some filming up in Sun Valley at one of the junkyards, then the competition was up in Santa Barbara. It was kind of a sham- the show led you to believe the teams really built those vehicles. They didn't. They went through the "pre loaded" yard and pulled some parts, did little more than actually tack weld and mock up the major pieces together. Then a completely different crew came in and actually built up the vehicles. They did this for safety/ insurance reasons and also to guarantee they'd have a vehicle that could actually work at the competition.

Attached is a pic of the toys I made that hit the shelves (and soon the clearance aisles) The worst was how the instructions ended up on top inside the package...

I second that Roadkill and Big muscle are about as real as it gets. I would rather watch them off YouTube without commercials and without the fluff of all these other cable shows. Just give me what I want tech and cars!!

I like to watch Chop Cut Rebuild. That show focuses on the car and not the BS drama that many of the other shows have. If you're going to have a show about building cars, then show the build.

Everyone has their things they like or dislike. I also understand the show producers have a certian set of things they want to accomplish. That being said what I dislike about most of these shows is the reputation it gives the "real" builders like we have on this site. I see it as sort of a slap in the face to these builders. What is a customer supposed to think when they watch these shows? Personally I think you would have one of two types of people watching.
1. A person that has no idea what to expect in a true $50,000 a $100,000 build. These people would have the money but not the know how to do the build themselves (no disrespect).
2. People like many of us on this site that maybe don't get to visit shops or get to know them and their work. For this type of customer, I would think these shows would make them very hesitant to take their project to a shop.

I mean only the best builders get on tv....right. If these guys are the best, then wow!

Agreed, and that the builders are knuckle-dragging, eye-patch wearing dregs of society just trying to make a quick buck on a car. We try to promote the craftsmanship and skill it takes to build a car properly, but many shows to far more harm than good for the image of car enthusiasts.

I watched Rods n Wheels yesterday and wasnt impressed. More of the same built in drama stuff. Not enough details on the builds. Then they went out and sold a stockish 68 Camaro rebuild for 27k. Sounds way over inflated. They didnt show much of the restoration process but if taking replacement body parts while still in the box to the painter is any indication of the work put into it, I'd hate to see the quality of the finished product.

My favorite is Overhaulin but only the newer ones. The pranks from the original were too much. Jessie really adds a lot to the show. Wish she was still on it.

Powerblock is good but really depends on the projects.

I've personally found Powerblock, now Powernation, informative. Xtreme 4x4 is by far my favorite because most of the show is dedicated to tech. Musclecar, Trucks and Horsepower are cool if I'm into whatever they are working on or discussing.

Fast and Loud is pure drama based, just like Street Outlaws. Everything is staged and meant to get you fired up about the next episode. The commercial breaks are insanely long, and I will only watch the shows after they have been recorded via DVR.

Counting Cars - Some episodes are good but most are whatever

Graveyard Cars - Can't get into that show

Chasing Classic cars - Some episodes give me a good automotive history lesson but some are blah.

Stacey David Gearz - Can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss the show. Pretty funny watching him toss old parts across the shop. Some of his projects were pretty cool.

Outlaw Garage - Always good to see what the guys at Austin Speed Shop are working on.

Fantomworks - I can't stand the guys attitude. Just doesn't seem like a guy I'd do business with.

Overhaulin - Cool if I like the car build but never seem to want to watch an episode twice.

You guys seem to be missing the difference between couple grand flippers and $25K average build shops with top craftsmen and a $150-$350K build high end shop.
If you pay a guy $275 to swap out a trans, odds are he isnt going to degrease and paint the underside of your car, you'd be lucky if he washes your crossmember off before putting it back on.

Well, the only thing I relate it too...is how I would do the job in MY SHOP...

And by the method I learned largely by watching their shows in prior years.

The type of builds that I watched Muscle car and Trucks do over the years that I liked the most and learned the most from were those that took more elbow grease and time to perform than cubic dollars.

I realize they need to do a little bit of everything to please a larger audience, I would just rather not see them cut corners to speed a project up. Anyone can bolt a bunch of high dollar parts on a nasty base and call it good.

I'm still watching the PowerNation shows though...best of the best on TV right now.

I watched "Car Fix" yesterday with Lou Santiago and Jared Zimmerman. Its a good Powerblock style show. They just started a ProTouring 2nd Gen Camaro. Should be pretty good. Judging from previous episodes, there should be plenty of tech info shared.

I just was sitting thru Velocity --- and on comes Desert Car Kings.... What a crappy show that is. The owner (Dad) is just a dick to his employees and kid... and he pulls a POS 442 out of his "private" lot -- and gives the crew 3 weeks and a whopping 10K budget to put it all back together as an original restoration.

Yeah thats him. Used to work for Rad Rides also. Its a fun show. The guys have good chemistry.

I gotta say, I don't understand all the hatred for the Gas Monkey Guys. I'm not going to take my cars to them for a nut and bolt restoration, but they're flippers. They get it running and make a little profit. Break out an Auto Trader Classics and you'll find 50 shops just like theirs selling mild refurbishes for regular guys looking for an old car. I just like the fact that their show doesn't focus on how they're all a!@#oles to each other. They seem to have a good time cobbling together these cars, and to me that's good entertainment. If I want real car shows, Freiburger and Finnegan are my go to guys. Roadkill is the best thing that happened to the internet. My two pennies.

I record and enjoy all of the Fast and Loud episodes now too, and enjoy them. It is what it is...like said above they find dilapidated cars, puff them a bit and turn them all while being a bit entertaining at the same time. They always seem to error on the side of caution or safety when putting a car back together which is a plus.

Good points Brad. I actually enjoyed watching Gas Monkey.... and I always thought Richard knew exactly who he was... a flipper trying to earn a living doing what he knew how to do. And the relationship with Sue is just hilarious. I agree - they all got along. The cars and quality is a completely different issue... and frankly -- I don't take issue with the quality of cars. BUYING a car is on the buyer. Not everyone can build a 200K PT car... or show car.

I still prefer watching a car show (watching ANY show) where I can learn something... but GMG was entertaining. Just like the UK version of Top Gear...It made me laugh.
