I was watching this particular car at BJ:
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=1312&aid=525
Looks like it sold for about $83K or so minus buyers commission. I was expecting this car to sell for more looking at the amount of work in the car, GoodGuys SMOY finalist in 2012, etc. Now I wish I had registered as a bidder! Anyone else think this car sold under the money? Anyone see / know who bought it?

He may of got 1/3 of his money back. Great buy. I like the external body mods but the interior didn't have a consistent presentation. That console was fugly

Could have sold it on eBay for that!
I bet the owners sick. It's as nice as they get.

It cements the fact that you build for the love of the game, not the investment. Ask me how I know... ha

I think the color hurt it. I like the copper body, but way too much inside. The interior is sore on the eyes.

I have a feeling that a dealer may have bought this car. If so, I would expect to see it on a dealers web site in short order for a bit more than $93,000. Just sayin........

Exactly. My father in law took his 67 Chevy nova that was bada$$. Ls9 t56mag etc etc. had 250,000 in it. After seller fees he cleared 128k. Just saying you can't expect to make money or break even on a build. I told him he was lucky to get that

It would be tough taking a 200k loss after only enjoying the car for a year or so after it was completed. What a great buy

That Camaro is built for a very small niche market. I bet Greg's nomad bring nearly the same money or within 20% and it been together for years.

Well done. Were you happy with that price?

I sold the car to a buddy that is a dealer -- that had always said if I ever sell - he wanted it.... we've been good friends for many years. So he sold it -- and had put those wheels on it. Plus detailed the paint etc...
He came out on it. I'd left him meat on the bone. But to answer the better question -- if I was the seller -- yes I think that was what it was worth.

All I can say is Natg channel is lucky it showed the Nomad I waited all night to see. I thought they were going to sign off before it was sold.

Well --- the coverage this year is no different than in the past... lots and lots of stupid mistakes by the "pros"... Like the babbling idiot that's looking at my SMALL BLOCK and telling the world it's a 524 CUBIC INCH motor... (that's the horsepower number). I got a good chuckle out of that.
And I - like you - watched all day for several cars I was somewhat connected with... El Mule, etc. and dying the slow death of a 1000 cuts waiting for "my" (I'd sold it) car to run... and the announcer starts closing the show. OMG! But I was happy with the air time it got.... and that's nothing but pride since I had nothing to gain. I just wanted to see it appreciated for the home built car that it was. Lots of miles and I mean LOTS of miles on her... but always maintained and changed and updated. So I was thrilled when Magnante opened the hood to show my handiwork and they seemed to be happy with the quality etc. So I was happy. I just didn't want to see it languish on the block or have them just blow it off like "oh here's a 1956 Nomad" and then put that April Rose on... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

really though that Camaro styling looks a bit "dated"
it looks like the earlier days of protouring that had some streetrod still in it a bunch..
I like the car.. but it surely took an exact buyer... that wasnt at BJ this year... lol

Agreed. I like the car but perhaps too custom. Really dig the FI setup on the motor but think lack of LS series motor and a 400 series automatic vs a 5 or better a 6 speed may have influenced price.

I think your right on Chris I saw this car at Columbus and there work was super nice but it was more custom than I prefer and the engine and trans needs updated but the car is very well built.

Couldn't be more dated or "street-rod" then this thing;

Just no rhyme or reason to some of it....

Got it --- yeah that one is pretty ugly too... but obviously at least two people loved it enough to pay 150 grand for it. Taste is all personal -- what one person loves someone else hates. It's hot rodding - to each his own.
I could never figure out why they put a front plate on that car :headscratch:

lol, actually I was refering to the orange one, (goes for the blue one too though) Everytime I saw it, I couldnt stop seeing that damn thing hanging off the passenger side bumper, so out of place.

The problem with some of these builds is the owners never saw anything they didn't want --- that blue Camaro is part Pro Stock -- No pro touring - part show car - mostly girlie... part hot rod with bigs and littles... to me - it's just a complete mess.

I agree completely. Maybe that's why cars like this do okay to well at auction. There is something for every buyer in that car. Seriously, the majority of buyers seem to people who like cars but aren't "gear heads," who I think tend to be much more involved with trends and are therefore more discriminating buyers.
That orange one though, it just drives your point home further. It is epitome of your comment about owners never finding a part or design they don't like. I seem to recall the license plate was "NVR2MCH" or something similar. At least they're honest with themselves and open about their, uh...issues.

Steve, I hear what you are saying but here in Nebraska it is state law to have a front plate. I am assuming the owner was driving it on the streets. I would of thought they could have come up with a better placement for the plate especially with the money spent.

Pretty Much summed it up right there. "Show" cars and especially "show" muscle cars are, for the most part, proof that men have horrible taste. Apparently anything bright enough, that's had the entire billet specialties catalog thrown at it qualifies as design these days in most hot rod shops.

I had to go back - like a moth to a flame - to look over the orange Camaro in the OP...
There's just so many things to find fault with... the entire car is just disjointed. The "stock" console that was modified to have a waterfall from the dash -- the stock shifter --- in a custom dash... I don't know what they were thinking when the dash was done... or what the "theme" was -- but then you see the steering wheel -- and it doesn't go with anything else... so there's stock -- then a bunch of rocker launchers - and a wheel from who knows what look...
Then -- all the metal work in the engine compartment --- and some dumb SOB decides to zip tie the fuel lines? Really? OMG... and they should have been hard lines... and at least index the fittings correctly so the lines aren't twisted...
Then the rear end has modern looking exhaust and a rear diffuser like a race car yet the interior is pure "show car" and not race car at all...
The car just has no consistent design element. Someone got a bunch of nice parts --- all put together in a jumbled up mess.

I thought the orange car would have brought a lot more money. After seeing it only bring 85K I am glad I didn't risk bringing mine. I would have to look again at that orange Camaro but I don't think it has a back seat at all. Which may or may not ever be used but if it doesn't have one well then your just SOL if you want to ride more than 2 people in the car. I think sometimes that hurts the sale a lot.

That is an excellent point I hadn't even thought about. We've all heard and cast stereotypes about guys buying muscle cars to relive the glory days or because they wished they'd had one in high school, well, I if that's the case what good is a Camaro without a back seat?

You guys are reading way.way...too much into this. You have to be at Barrett-Jackson to understand it. It is a huge party where people spend money. 99% of them have no idea there is no backseat because they have been no closer to the car than where they are sitting. A black Cadillac with it's roof cut off sold for I think 160K and the guy was hoping to get 40K. I'm sure alot of cars are just bought because from the seats in the audience it looks great.
