This one really was found in a barn.
Supposedly, the original owner parked it in his barn, (New Mexico) covered it with hay, and there it sat for many years.
After he passed, his son and daughter were getting his estate together and found it....under a large pile of hay!
They both thought he had sold it because they hadn't seen it for years! I guess he was quite secretive LOL.
It is a pretty solid car.

Perhaps he hid it under hay because he didn't want it getting repoed. Or he was running from the law, or it was stolen. Or he was caught with another man's wife in it. Some interesting reason right? :poke: Just giving you a hard time bro. Welcome to the site. Nice find and keep us updated.

That's awesome! It has the deluxe style interior too with houndstooth. Pretty neat right there!

I want more history on the "bridal party" sticker! That's what's so great about these old cars, so many stories.

LOL, I wondered about that myself.
Speaking of the trunk, we found a box of new GM windshield and rear window moldings....go figure.

What would cause the surface rust to have such a sharp cut off line on passenger quarer? A bail of hay or somthing?

It looks like there was some body work done there many moons ago.

A few more.
The trunk floor had the worst rust on the car.

Got the subframe sand blasted and did a little clean up on the welds.

Jonathon, it's a NOR car, nothing real special. Tell you the truth, I canned the trim tag lol. The firewall has been smoothed now, will get some pics of it.

Had the subframe powder coated a metallic grey. Went with Energy Suspension poly bushings, ball joints, center link, tie rods, idlerarm, pitman arm, end links, sway bar of course. Hotchkis 2" drop springs, SSBC brakes. Quick ratio box. Nothing real special.

.......Going with a resto-mod theme.
Can we get details....like engine, tranny, color, wheels, etc? Or are you gonna keep the original motor, etc. Gonna definitely be way cool either way.

Sure, keeping the 327, it's now .030 over, hyper flat tops, Schneider (he does all our cams) hyd flat tappet, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, Air-Gap, a little 650 VS Holley carb. MSD HEI.
Trans is a moderate 2004R which I've had good luck with in the past.
It's actually a BMW silver, but it's very close to Cortez silver. Black stripes .
Nothing real radical on the tires/wheels. Going with the usual TT 2's, 16x7 on the front, 17x8 on the back. Front tires are 225/60, rears 255/60.
Got the block back from the machine shop.

Dropped the crank in, just needed polishing.

LOL!! Whatever direction you go with it Don it's gonna be a nice car. The frame looks awesome!! That car didn't see many salty roads in its days. You don't find many in that shape these days. That's what sparked the question if it may have been a Cali car. Gonna be a very cool build keep us posted.. Oh and the Cortez with black stripes will top it off NICELY!!

Thanks for the kind words Jonathon. I was a little surprised to see it was a NOR car too. All I know is it ended up in New Mexico.
And keep up the great work on your 68! :trophy-1302:
Glad your keeping the old school small block in there!!!
