Figured I'd post this up to give ideas on what's possible with DRL's.

The guys over at the12volt.com had the circuit for converting a 12V pulsed turn signal into a 12V steady steady state.

From there it was a matter of piecing the various circuits together (it's at the bottom of this post). This particular circuit does the following:

1.) DRL's come on with the ignition switch (i.e., always on)
2.) DRL's automatically turn off when headlights turn on.
3.) Left side DRL turns off when LH turn signal activated, and turns back on when LH turn signal deactivated. Right side does the same.
4.) This auto turn-on module (http://www.amazon.com/Directed-Elect.../dp/B000CJ24YY) automatically turns on the headlights when ambient light level dips below a certain threshold.

Here are some videos showing the operation:

On mine, the HID headlight module is the control module for the HID's. In the absence of that, you'd connect that up to the headlights themselves.

Also on mine, the headlight switch is auto-turn on module. In the absence of that it would simply connect to the factor headlight switch.

The colors I picked for the wiring are arbitrary.

Relays are all your standard run-of-the-mill 30A automotive relays.

That is a pretty cool and robust solution.
