But here it is. An LS1 camshaft & a truck harmonic balancer.

I'm guessing you are single ?
LOL, no. I was surprised myself when I told my wife that I wanted to make one for my nightstand. I saw one online somewhere & wanted to make one. I am going to use a touch sensor as the switch though. Don't know what I am doing for a lamp shade yet, if it will be a traditional shade, or something automotive.

Good for her! The right spouse makes all the difference.

The lampshade should be made from some thin sheetmetal with a rivet old school theme

Air filters work really well for that.

There is a thread over on ls1 tech, that has many, many pages of unbelievably cool re-purposed automotive parts. My favorite is the aluminum block LS coffee table.

Haha! Nifty! Going to put some sort of 'shade' on it?

OMG I got a good chuckle out of that comment!!
TIMING GEARS and Chain are the only appropriate thing to be made into a shade...

Its cool but on my wedding night I was given this advice by my buddies 80 year old mother.
"Never have anything in the bedroom that you would not like getting hit with or tied to"
Make sure you post it up when done.
