Im not a big fan of the looks, but that car is an outstanding performer. Its unreal what GM does with single cam ohv motors. Now if we could get the DOT to quit adding safety features, and the EPA to quit adding emissions equipment we could go back to big bad engine lightweight rwd american cars.

I think the button he has on the left hand is used to stop the GPS speed recorder (lower left corner-it stopped running when he hit the button). It showed the speed when the vette passed under the toll gantry.

I work for the company (Transcore) that put in the tolling equipment. TxDOT wanted to see how fast a vehicle can go under the toll gantry and still be captured by the toll system. In this case 200 mph.

According to the tech guys that were there, the vette is bone stock, other than intake/exhaust mods.

If you want to see some interesting stuff go to the Corvette C7 forced induction, or performance section. Lots of race shops are coming out with all sorts of kits and mods. When the LT1 trickles down to other models, there will be all sorts of turbos and sc's available. Most Corvette guys are on the fence waiting on the specs of the LT4, C7 Z06. The latest rumor is 738hp and maybe a dct transmission, lol.

it's too bad the C7 is just so fugly... I waited until it was introduced and then once I saw it, started shopping for a C6 Z06 and got lucky and found a Carbon Edition somewhat local. There are some attributes about the interior that I like, but that exterior is just too odd.

Interesting about the rumors the C7 Z will have a special transmission - I can say the one gripe I have about my C6 Carbon Edition, and sadly it is a big one, is that the Tremec trans that is in it is the worst POS I have ever dealt with and I have driven a gamut of vehicles. Total POS on the track unless you shift it like a pansy. And if it is even remotely cold out, good luck getting 2nd gear. Love the late model Vettes and they are really stable and handle pretty amazingly, but the trans that is in them and the TO bearing fluid issues they have suuuuuuuucccccccckkkkkksssssss. Maybe the C7 can get that figured out. I would definitely consider a DCT if it is a true automated manual with millisecond shifting and not some automatic with buttons or paddles to select gears.

The C6 Z06 transmission doesn't give any trouble if you leave the car on blocks with plumb lines hanging everywhere off the bottom. LOL Agree with your thoughts on the C7.

With the existing LSx race block and so forth, I sort of wondered if (more like hoped) the C7Z would convert that block to aluminum and bring back a 454 but in a small block form or even up to 500 cubes to battle the Viper but alas it sounds like the 427 is even long gone. The new LT1 makes more power than the LS3 but has a fair amount more engine management and that doesn't have as much appeal to me either. Direct injection is cool tho'.

It's a 2011. I was just measuring all of the suspension pick-up points for future reference.

Watching one of the Corvette forums, the consensus seems to be that the C7 Z motor will be a supercharged version of the LT1 -- called the LT4. If so, I hope they have improved the inlet charge temperature issues seen on the ZR1. I think the car needs more tire, and probably a little less weight. Watching the limited clips of the Z51 at the Ring (for which GM did not publish a lap time), there appeared to be a lot of tire squeal -- appeared to be working the skinny front tires pretty hard. A wide, carbon fiber body would help fix some of that. Until it proves itself, I'll stick with my C6/Z07.

I like updating old Corvettes with new stuff, but am finding less and less of the new components appealing. The LT1 is an awful lot of extra engineering/complications for 30hp and 4mpg over an LS3. The new 8sp auto might have some appeal, but Im not sure I want a 7sp manual in an old Corvette.

For anyone who thinks all of the new components are improvements, go to the C6 and C5 corvette forced induction forums. Look at all of the big power guys switching to power glides and turbo 400s, lol. As a minimum they are ripping out A6 transmissions for old 4l80e's. I didnt mention a manual because none will hold up.

If the C7Z comes out with the sc LT4, I think I will buy a late model C6Z and stick it in the garage. It could become an icon by the time I hit a nursing home, lol.
