I was running a SB 355 in my 67 El Camino until I blew it up. I am going back with the same block, but with a 383 stroker crank. I know that it being bored .030 over is what makes it a 355. And I know that the 383 crank is what makes a 383. But is it called something different when the bore is still .030 over and there is a 383 stroker crank? I hate to sound dumb, but I am learning more and more about engines day by day. Is it called a 400? And do the cubic inches change now? I would just like to know.

Thanks
Jesse

350 = 4.000 bore x 3.48 stroke
355 = 4.030 bore x 3.48 stroke

A 383 is a .030 over 350 block with a 400 crank:
383 = 4.030 x 3.75 stroke

400 = 4.125 x 3.75 stroke

A 350 + .030 with a 3.75" stroker crank will be a 383. If it was standard bore (4") with the same crank it would be a 377.

Thanks guys! That clears things up. Someone told me this before, but they weren't able to put the numbers in as you both have. I'm an accountant, so I guess I'm driven by numbers.

Thanks

Search on google for "cubic inch calculator"

There is also a destroker engine. Technically when you put a 350 crank in a 400 block. You'll get around a 377. Spend some time here to get an idea of what some of the possibilities are.

I have a "destroker".It is a brodix block 4.12 bore with 3.5 stroke,it comes to 373.

How do you like that combo? Good for street or no? I've been looking at a long rod destroker for it's good rod ratio.
