Was thinking that maybe some of you might appreciate the history of this car and dig the video of it.

The car belongs to my business partner and has been a 15 year long project for him. It started out with a complete 1969 ZL1 engine that used to belong to Howard Simon Gidoulenko. My partner built this complete car as a home for this very unique and special engine.

Here is a walkaround and startup video I made of the car last spring.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRyBkx3zzxg

Personally, while I love the sound of the engine once it's started up...the car just isn't my deal. I can't stand to do anything with it because I'm just afraid something is going to happen to it. it's been basically finished for about 3 years now...and has a total of 38 miles on it.

It is consigned to be sold at Barrett Jackson in January, should be interesting to see what it brings.

Anyway, thought maybe some of you would like to hear it run.

Got the lot number, it's gonna cross the stage Friday night in prime time. I still haven't made plans to be out there myself when it goes, but I'm thinking I probably will.

I've been out to the Russo and Steele auctions a few times but never made it over for the spectacle that is Barrett Jackson. This might be my only chance.

First off, as many of you are aware...it's freaking COLD just about everywhere right now, damn cold. This was taken on my commute to work yesterday morning.

It's a bit better today, may get up to 25 degrees then a bit colder again the next few days.

Here's my problem. I've got a transport truck showing up sometime later this week to pick up the Corvette to take it to Scottsdale, and I'm just not quite sure how I am going to get the car from inside our shop to the truck.

Typically I'd have the rig just back up to our shop back door and load it right there, here's the view out our back door right now.

The truck would have to back down a slight hill to the garage door apron, then hope to get going back forward again and turn around to leave the lot once the car is loaded. I've had drivers refuse to back up to the door if there is even a hint of slickness to the gravel lot under that snow.

If this particular driver refuses...my next option is to get a roll back in there to load the car on, then get the rollback to meet the truck somewhere else to do the swap. Pretty much EVERY road around here is a disaster right now.

This car is perfect in every way, I don't even want to take the chance of the front air dam dragging the ground putting it on a rollback much less letting a tow truck driver hook a chain to it. My tow truck guy said he'd just have me drive the car up onto the rollback and stay in the car holding the brake until we got up the street to meet the truck. All not very desirable options in my book. :confused59:

I had my plow guy make an attempt at plowing the back lot this morning in the hopes that today's sunshine would melt a bit of the last layer down to the gravel, but I don't think that is gonna work too well either. Thankfully we didn't get ice under that layer of snow so if it melts at least some it should help. Hopefully the transport driver is adventurous and capable (preferably about half loaded would be a plus) and willing to work with me. I talked with the owner of the company yesterday trying to nail down when the driver will be here, apparently I'm not the only car he's contracted to haul to Scottsdale later this week with these types of issues...

Anyway, first world problems I guess...

I have a question for you snow guys. Who pays for the plowing? State, city? Taxes? Private?

nice car, good luck with the sale!!

Private property owners pay for their own snow removal, municipalities pay for their roads and MoDOt or KDot take care of the highways.

I have an ATV with a 5' blade that I use to clear my driveways at home and it does real well. Only twice in 13 years have I had to call in a big truck and that was basically to push my big piles out further into my grass.

The lot here at work is a different story, since I have a retail store I hire a guy that comes as soon as it's done snowing or at 8ish in the morning to get the areas the customers go, but we typically don't plow the back lot though as it's gravel and that's a whole 'nother problem.

We can have years with just 3-5" of snow total or we can have years like last year where we had about 40" of snow total. Just never know what it's gonna do.

Meh, I live in the boonies so I just leave it piled up until I can't drive through it. Hasn't happened in a couple of years though. About 4 years ago I couldn't get to work, even in my F-250 diesel 4 door that I had at the time. I had to wait for the plows to go through on the roads.

Actually, my uncle comes and plows my driveway for me when he get's a chance.

This pic is from last year but this year doesn't look much different.

We had a particularly large dump of snow last February, this was my truck after about 40 minutes of snow fell on it at work as I was waiting for someone before heading home at 9 am.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Z5Axe-tiAaM/USY0dgFnAII/AAAAAAAAE7M/AvEp2Z9g_qI/w997-h562-no/2013-02-21_08-51-19_587.jpg

It snowed like that for about 5 hours straight...I didn't think I was going to make it home, should have never been out in that stuff to begin with and I grew up in the mountains of Colorado driving in deep stuff like that all of the time.

My windshield wiper when I got home.

See the ice built up holding it off of the windshield. I was flicking the driver's side with my hand until I overheated my power window and it got stuck halfway down.

Here's how I rigged my snow clearing machine up to handle the task.

My path to get to the outbuilding where the snow plow was...

Our problem here can be when the wind blows huge drifts up. Typically they go across the front of the house that faces the North.

I didn't get any before pics, but heres a few after pics showing how I stacked the snow up with my ATV.

If you don't clear the snow here and give the sun a chance to melt the last layer back to the solid surface, it turns into a packed down layer of ice that you can almost never get rid of. I'm a fan of getting it moved as quickly as possibly before it gets much traffic on it as it helps it go away MUCH faster.

I have this problem if it snows late at night and I dont get rid of it by morning. The wife goes to work, then comes home for lunch, then back to work. Then comes home again before she goes to the 2nd part of her job then leaves again. So by the time I get the chance to really try to shovel the driveway it has packed down tracks that are now ice and zero chance of getting rid of it till it warms up.

Tucking company calls me at 4:15 pm yesterday afternoon, they can have a truck there in 45 minutes!! :headscratch:

I wasn't sure if I was ready or not, certainly wasn't expecting them until Wednesday at the earliest. The lot out back hadn't melted much and everything was starting to freeze back up again so I said sure, send him on.

I won't go into all of the details, but the car is now safely on a truck headed for Scottsdale. It wasn't easy, by any stretch...but it's on the truck still clean and still in one piece.

Glad you got it on okay.

I figured there would be a few people in this type of situation considering it is January. :confused18:

What transport company did you use?

SSLance

We contracted with Enclosed Vehicle Transport which we've used before, but apparently they just sell the job the broker it out to whichever driver\truck is available.

Every time before the driver's have showed up with a big nice stacker trailer with a tailgate ramp.

The driver yesterday showed up with an old school stacker hauler with 30' ramps to drive up into the trailer on. The inside of the trailer looked like an open car hauler with all of the ramps and hydraulics etc with just the skin of an enclosed trailer around it all. The ramps made it a bit more than a challenge with this car to say the least. The cam in that engine doesn't prefer low RPM lugging.

Howbout that storm Lance? That was some fun.. I was hoping for more snow.. that I can handle, but -14º, not so much. The neighborhood kids never came around to shovel the driveway.. image that. Had to do it myself.

Glad you got the car moved. I always liked Passport Transport. No brokers, they are their own shipping company. They are more, but are worth it IMO. They have a dock and are located in St. Louis.
