View Full Version : Mast or Holley Retro Oil Pan (LS3 in 68 Camaro)

I'm updating from current LS1 to LS3 on my 68 Camaro. Stock subframe and I have a modified F Body oil pan on the LS1 and had planned to change to an aftermarket cast pan on the LS3.

I see that the Holley now has a baffle available to suit their retro oil pan, https://www.holley.com/302-10.asp.
Cost of Holley oil pan & baffle around $600.00

The Mast pan around $450.00 and appears to have a baffle system built in.

They appear to be very similar in dimensions?

Does anyone have pros & cons on either, is baffle set up on one superior to the other.

The front end height of the Holley pan is not well suited for use in a 1st-gen/Nova LS swap unless you are willing to notch the engine crossmember for clearance. Folks have installed them by using various combinations of spacers and/or washers between the subframe and the engine stands, but it is to the detriment of your U-joint working angles to do so. With all that said, a new Holley pan has been designed specifically to address the unique requirements of this swap and was done so in combination with the new Hooker 1st-gen F-body/3rd-gen Nova LS swap engine mount brackets, transmission crossmembers, headers and exhaust systems that will soon be released.

Moroso makes a pan with good baffling at a reasonable price, according to the application chart it will work in a 1st gen.

Thanks guys, but have a preference for a cast pan and not wishing to run remote oil filter

You don't have to run a remote filter with that pan but if you want a cast pan then it doesn't really matter.

I can't speak for the others but the ATS pan on the Camaro has been great, but a remote filter is needed. It's one of the few parts on the car that required no modifications to work properly.

I work on the exhaust side of development here at Holley and haven't heard where things are at in regards to the release of the pan. The design process is done and I have seen fully machined pre-production examples around, which means manufacturing engineers are involved at this point to work out the production side of the process. I'm sure some sort of release date will soon be announced, which may even happen at the SEMA show next week where the pan will be on display.
