Found this forum through a friend and it seems like it might be a better place for me to get good feedback on my project.
Little bit about me and my project.
Car guy through and through, have a few pretty neat projects over the past couple years and really not a fan of the mainstream. I am 35 and a steamfitter/ service manager by trade. My dad recently retired and we finished his 64 ranchero this year. We decided that next summer we need to take a major road trip, kind of a trip of a lifetime if you will. Now I needed something cool to take on this road trip, something that is not another c 10 or a nova or a mustang.
I am a huge foxbody mustng fan, have owned several of them in the past from all different years. I would not call myself a ford guy though.
Started to search for an early bumpside F100 shortbed in descent body shape. I found a 68 white shortbed, clean with a dent on the passenger side of the bed. No motor in it but it was in the bed.
So the journey begins.
We loaded up the trailer and headed from home here in Portland down to Grants pass. Truck was exactly what he said so we paid the man, loaded it up on the trailer and headed for the house.

Finally got it in the garage after our big Alaska adventure and got to work. Pulled off the front sheetmetal, got it up on stands and proceeded to chop the frontend out from under it.

Once I was down to some framerails I started to mockup the 2003 crown vic stuff I picked up in Seattle, pretty easy stuff really, ran some .25 wall tubing through the framerails and burned in the mounts.

Got the frontend hung under there and built some tabs for the rear trailing arms and got those burned on there as well.
Truck is getting a 6.0 from an 03 hummer lq4 and a built 4l80E.
Power will be assisted with a Borg Warner s480 turbo, 80 lb injectors, circle d triple disc full billet converter and a HD-2 shift kit. Looking for somewhere in the 700-800 WHP range.
So, I got to work getting the engine in place and building some motor mounts.

Engine is nice and low in the engine bay, tranny should work out nicely and the engine is staggered to the passenger side to assist with steering rack, booster and exhaust clearance.
Here are the engine mounts all finished up and ready to go for powder coating. I am using the OEM locations on the front K member with some poly bushings sandwiched in there, trying to leave some room for the 4" downpipe.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/IMG_0219_zps544e55ec.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/IMG_0219_zps544e55ec.jpg.html)

So, I got the brake booster and brackets from a 75 and swapped the pedal into my 68 assembly, pulled everything I could from the firewall and dropped all that stuff off at the powder coater on Monday and that gets us up to speed for the weekend.
Hope to finish any work on the firewall and get that shot with some paint so things can start going back together.
Hope at least a few of you folks follow along, should be a fun little winter project.

Had an epic weekend.
Saturday morning my buddy Asher and I loaded up the tools and headed out to the yard for some digging.
I came up with exactly what I was looking for, 1981 ford F100. 9" axle, 65" wide, 31 spline and 5x4.5 lug pattern. The axle that we found was missing some hardware on one axle end, but it was complete other than that.
By the time we got home it was about 1 pm. We got busy getting to work.
Pulled the motor back out and set it aside, stripped off everything from the firewall that was left. Sanded, sanded and sanded some more, little work with the wire wheel to clean it up where there was some rust and hit it with two coats of epoxy primer.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap003_zps65655a12.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap003_zps65655a12.jpg.html)
As that was drying, we got with the program and unloaded everything I was storing in the bed and got that sweet bumper pulled off, unbolted the bed and got that set aside.
Oh what fun, more rivets to get off for the rear crossmember. I have a pretty good method though. Grind off the head with a flap disc, then drill out just a little bit of the rivet and it pops right out.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap001_zpsce40faef.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap001_zpsce40faef.jpg.html)
So with a little time I was mocking up the fuel tank and see what I was going to do back here.
My buddy Dan came by in the evening and was awesome enough to tackle the Trans GO HD-2 shift kit installation in the 4l80E tranny. He got it all finished up with the exception of a pan gasket and a filter.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap002_zps003e0f05.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap002_zps003e0f05.jpg.html)
Although not a terrible task, I was able to keep working and knew that it was in capable hands with Dan on the tranny.
Pretty much see what I left in the garage on Saturday night.
Sunday morning was clean up time, we left it a mess on Saturday.
Saturday started by buttoning up the tranny so that I could get back to some dirty work.
Picked up parts and got that done early.
I have seen a couple folks build the frame and set the fuel tank inside the framerails. While I like the idea of gaining some clearance in the rear, the idea of having to pull the bumper, the bed and the rear crossmember to get the tank out was not for me. So I went a little different route.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap007_zpsa9f24ef7.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap007_zpsa9f24ef7.jpg.html)
Its going to reside between the rear crossmember and the next crossmember forward. I am hanging it under the frame and holding it in place with two straps.
I got the tank where it needed to go, marked it out and bet up some straps. Welded some nuts to the inside of the crossmembers and got the tank hung.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap008_zpsf1bb8015.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap008_zpsf1bb8015.jpg.html)
Also went to town on the rear frame with a wire wheel and lots of elbow grease. The frame is in perfect shape though and I have still yet to find a single spot of rust on the entire truck. Body mounts, cab corners everything is in great shape metal wise.
So with the tank all mounted, the weather looking good I hit the firewall with some scotchbrite and knocked down a couple of little flaws, mixed up some paint and tacked off the firewall....Here is the end result of my driveway reshoot on the frontend. Aside from a run or two, the paint turned out great and should allow me to get to putting stuff back together this week.

I dont know how, but it was still only 1 pm at this time.
We headed over to Daves place who runs Old School EFI here locally in vancouver. I took him my ls harness a couple weeks ago. He set it up for stand alone operation, added in relays for fan 1, fan 2, fuel pump, starter and all the works. Literally a three wire hookup and it runs. He did an awesome job on the harness and reprogram.
Got back and went to work on the rearend. Cut off all the brackets off the new 9" ground everything down after Asher got after it with the wire wheel. It was looking good. Took some measurements on the old rearend and got everything tacked up. Doing a spring under swap on the rearend.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap010_zps5f0359cd.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/f100lsswap010_zps5f0359cd.jpg.html)
Pulled the old rearend and amazingly every bolt came off without any major problems. Rolled in the new rearend and lightly bolted it in.

Oh what a difference the stance of a project makes. Looks a lot better, front end might need to come down a little bit but its a heck of a lot better.
Pretty much where I left it off this evening.
Hope to get brakes plumbed and start on the firewall reassembly this week.

Pretty sure that it is going to get a nice coat of shiney new whimbledon white all around.
Trying to decide on wheels right now. Thinking 20x9 up front and 20x10 in the rear. Going back and forth between 18's and 20's though....18's seem much better to drive on, and a little bigger tire.
The pea green Volvo is a 1982 242. That was last springs project. Makes a little over 300 hp on just 2.1 litres. Not a big number in this crowd but a very fun car to rip around town. Rear wheel drive with a mustang t5 tranny and a spool makes for a pretty fun little car.
All work done in my little shop on this one with the exception of the intake manifold built from scratch by my friend Nathan.

Got home a little bit early today. =)
Went to work on a little cleanup in the garage and rolled the truck out in the driveway. On the jackstands once again and prepped the rearend for some paint work. One light coat of primer to help with adhesion and some flat alk200 with some catalyst added in to add a little bit of hardening and shine. Turned out a little glossier than I anticipated but looks pretty damn good for just hitting it with a wire wheel.

Also ordered my torque converter from Chris at Circle D. Most money I have ever spent on a converter. Tripple disc, full billet 4l80E converter. He said it should hold up to 1000 hp no problem. Good thing I am only shooting for somewhere between 700-800 whp.

Made a little progress on the truck the past few days.
Ordered in a weld on sump from Summit and it showed up a lot bigger than I imagined. Trimmed it down and rebent all the flanges to fit the back of the 70 mustang tank. Took it over to a buddies shop and got the tig machine out and welded it all up. Put the tank on a water test and all checked out ok. Need to order a sender for it.

So I got busy, self etch then some high build, got the tank pretty flat and shot on some single stage gloss black. Turned out descent enough for a gas tank hanging out under the back of this truck.

Rear brakes also showed up, Wilwood dynalite pro setup with the two piece rotors.
Assembled those with some help again from Asher, he did all the safety wire on the two piece hats while I put the rest together.
We bolted those onto the fully painted and assembled rearend.

Really happy with the lines we ran. They all look great and are tucked up and out of the way. Master cylinder is painted with a coat of rustoleum hammered gray. I like the look of the raw master but know it would rust. This is the closest thing I have found to keeping it looking cast.
Not really worth pics but the front suspension all got pulled back off, front framerails all wire wheeled down to bare metal and metal etch primed, primered and shot with the same alk200 I shot the rear frame with.
Front brakes all got cleaned up, painted and installed along with new rotors.....Not wilwoods but 12.5" brakes look big on an old ford pickup.
Front sheetmetal is all pulled apart and bumper got straightened out and ready to head out to powdercoat along with the grille and headlight bezel.
The first rust I have found is on the inner fender underneath the battery tray. Need to do a little patch work on that. Should be good work for this week.

Trying not to hijack here, I'm not sure which MC he used, but I used a AC Delco 18M973 from a 2000 S10 with a 4.3L V6. It has a 1" bore and the outlets are on the right side like you need.

Wanman- 75 ford two wheel drive f350. 1"bore as well.
Dropped off a load of stuff at the coater this am. Front bumper, grille, headlight bezels to get coated dull aluminum and cleared. Also the core support to get sand blasted.
Converter should have shipped from Chris at circle d on Friday.
Still battling a nasty cold so progress is kind of slow.

Now after seeing some of the sheetmetal work that is done on these board, my at home hack job doesn't seem very special, but gotta keep the build thread going so bare with me.
Trying to get the front engine bay sheetmetal work done this week while I am waiting for the converter.
There was a good bit of rust below the battery box and that area was not very good looking and flowing with the rest of a pretty good looking inner fender. So I cut it out bent up some sheetmetal and welded it in for a nice straight and flush fender.
Here it is in raw metal, still needed a bit more metal work at this point but I was running out of time.

The plan for the engine bay is just have mechanical parts in there, very little if any wiring. Going to tuck the headlight, turnsignals under the inner fenders and mount the battery in the rear of the truck. Trying to make it a very clean and pleasing engine bay.

Cool build, like it a lot!! Thanks man, looked at your thread as well, looks like we think a lot alike
Made good progress on the fenders last night, passenger got several hours of body work, priming and sanding and little bit of spot putty. They are far from perfect but pretty sure they will do just fine for inner fenders. Drivers side got the battery box cut out of it and the new flat patch panel put in it's place. Everything is all welded up and ready to start grinding and body work, I hope to be done with body work tonight and shoot these on Saturday.
Got a nice little box in the mail yesterday....

Got this amazing piece from Chris at Circle D. He was amazing to work with and this thing brings the beef. Full billet triple disc 4l80E converter along with an SFI approved flex plate. The plan is to get that bolted up and installed this weekend.

Well, did not get much done last night other than make a big mess of the garage.
I did get the entire steering column torn down prepped and painted in hopes of getting it installed today.
Today I got some help from a friend, more productive after lunch =) (Thanks for the hand and the company Ole)
Managed to get the column all rebuilt today, new bearings and all new hardware, all brackets were powdercoated gloss black, inside and outside. Stainless hardware installed on this as well as new rubber boot.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/IMG_0289_zpse65a229d.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/IMG_0289_zpse65a229d.jpg.html)
Looks like a tiny bit of progress, but it was a suprising amount of work to get it all nice, much better than it came from the factory.
Very happy with how this area has turned out so far, hope I can keep up this theme with the rest of the engine bay.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/IMG_0284_zps36dd0250.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/IMG_0284_zps36dd0250.jpg.html)
With the column finally back together and in the rig, I could layout the final steering linkage from the rack to the column. I had picked up all the linkage from a 05 crown vic earlier in the week and cut off the bottom of the steering column so I had lots to work with.
I machined down a little spacer with what I have here to work with to mate the crown vic stub to the 68 steering column. Welded the crown vic stub to the spacer then welded the spacer to the shaft. They were both an interference fit, hammered together and then welded. I know its not flaming river pretty, but it looks pretty descent and did not dig into the wallet, not even a dollar.

Got the 6.0 torn down to just a long block with covers and a pan, cleaned up everything and prepped it for paint. Shot it with several coats of gloss black. Planning on doing the Holley black valve covers with the coil mounts on them directly, should look pretty descent. Happy so far with the little engine clean up.

Another round of blocking and sanding and a couple rounds of real eopxy primer laid down on them, a well as the freshly sandblated nice straight core support.

Not really worth taking pics of but I also got the final upper braces for the frontend painted and installed with the proper spacers under them and measure for the tranny, its gonna be close if it clear the crossmember at the pan or not. Hope to find out tomorrow.

No real goal for an on the road date other than spring. Would like to take it on the power tour this year, maybe make it to the LS Fest this summer, both are a long ways from home though.
Not the best day of work in the garage for me, but I did manage to get more sanding on the inner fenders, they are at this point done and ready for paint... Tired of taking pictures of them though.
Got the tranny all cleaned up and put a nice dusting of aluminum paint on it to freshen up my freshened up tranny before it went into its new home.
Asher came over and we bolted up my new SFI approved flex plate, filled up the amazing circle d triple full billet converter and stabbed it in the tranny. Holy crap this tranny is a big heavy girl, but up to the task of holding big power for the long haul.
Keep in mind, never even a test fit on the tranny into the hole and over the crossmember....and into the truck we go.

I took lots and lots of measurements and was pretty sure that it was going to be close on the tunnel and at the crossmember.
It fit like a glove, plenty of clearance all around the big girl and the motor sits nice and low in the chassis, looks good in there.
So now my big debate is to go turbo now or finish the build na and go turbo later. Going to take a lot more $$$ and time for the turbo setup but it sure would be nice to do it all now before it goes in for paint.

Just ordered turbo...
Borg Warner S475 T6 frame along with all of the exhaust stuff I think I am going to need to get it put together.
Should be fun, but a lot of work. Goal for the truck is somewhere between 650 and 750 WHP.
Anniversary tonight, so no garage duty :waveflag:

So, got the tranny x member buttoned up and installed, turned out pretty good too. New poly tranny mount too.
With the weather here descent for a day, I figured it was bout the last opportunity to shoot the inner fenders and core support, so I setup my "Paint Booth".....aka driveway mixed up some paint and finally after too many hours of cutting, welding, sanding, priming, sanding, priming, wipe down clean and then some more of all that above, I shot some paint on them and the core support.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/IMG_0320_zps66e96fb9.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/IMG_0320_zps66e96fb9.jpg.html)

Pulled them inside to dry after they had setup for a few minutes. Bodywork looks awesome for my skillset and background. Paint turned out pretty descent as well, little orange peely on one and some specs in the other but keep in mind that I shot these in my driveway.
Inner fenders will have nothing mounted on them, all the holes were filled along with the battery tray on both inner fenders totally deleted. Should be a good look, nice and smooth.
Worked a little bit on the front of the motor, got the dirty dingo idler relocation bracket bolted onto the freshly blasted and painted accessory bracket. Looks descent.
Moved the steam port a little to make room for the ls1 intake, moved the electric throttle body from the truck over to the ls intake and got it set in place. Water pump installed, power steering pump back in place and got the power steering lines all figured out. Good Progress.

Thanks guys, appreciate the nice words.
Managed to stop in at oil filter sales and service this morning and picked up a bunch of fittings.
First up on the to do list was to make some modifications to the fuel rail. Cut off the excess brackets for what I believe was the coil covers. Then I drilled out a -6 steel fitting until it sat right on the inner ridge of the fuel rail return fitting and brazed it on.
Did the same thing on the supply line only with a -8 line on this one.
Rails are early corvette with supply and return lines.
Then what started out as some prep for paint turned into a couple hours with red scotch brite pad, some 320 grit sandpaper and some matte clear and finally think that I am happy with the results. Normally the stock rails are a little less than pretty. Think this is an ok outcome of trying to save a few bucks.

This showed up on Tuesday afternoon.

SO I started to get everything mocked up. Its big. Bigger than I thought it would be.
I really wanted it straight in the engine bay aesthetically, but there was just no way to make it fit there. So, it got clocked into this position and I built a mount to hold this big girl in place.
Checking for clearance to the front inner fender. It is close but not really many options at this time. Pretty sure a compressor blanket is going to be in my near future.

It, like the turbo is bigger than anticipated, where am I going to fit all this stuff?
Managed to get home at a descent hour last night and started on the fab work, this is what I enjoy doing so it was fun. Both manifolds chopped off, v bands tacked into place and all of the hot side tacked up. Still need some flex pipes, another v band and the wastegate but pretty happy how this all came together.

Exhaust is going to be almost too close to the oil fill on the valve cover, do they make valve covers with oil fill on both sides? Other than that and the wastegate and dump tube, I am pretty good for clearance on everything.
Thinking about just running a dump tube with a muffler on it instead of trying to snake it back through to the exhaust.

Looking for ideas for the wastegate placement now. Ordered a single 60 mm, but now, thinking I should have just done two 44's instead.
Any ideas out there or suggestions?

Lifted this image of a single 60mm wastegate placement a guy did on his turbo Mustang. "Worked great," he said. I was thinking you might have room to do something similar outboard of your merge-collector?
Granted the pics without fenders etc make it hard to see what kind of space you're really working with, but it might even make it easy to route the dump back into your downpipe.

Yeah, there just was no room to do that. I stumbled on that image when I was trying to make heads or tails. I think I came up with a reasonable solution to the wastegate.
Been busy trying to get stuff done the last few days, running a little low on motivation as my other two cars need work. Steering rack and all new joints on the ls Volvo and rear disc brake conversion on the 79 cummins were done this weekend as well.
Figured out a routing for the wastegate, probably not ideal, but this way was the cleanest I could figure it out without a ton more exhaust under the hood.

You can see in this picture a pretty direct path from both banks to the wastegate. Piping to and from the wastegate is 2 1/4"

Went over to my neighbor Geno's house who is always a huge help on these projects and he let me loose with his tig machine. To those of you who are killed with a tig torch, you have my respect, its hard to make it look perfect. These are far from perfect, but should hold just fine.
Did the downpipe with the TIG as well as the v bands onto the manifolds. The rest of the hot side piping got treated to a date with the old wire feed, turned out alright.
Last night I finished up with a little dimple died bracket for the turbo brace and added in two o2 bungs and a wideband bung.

Most of the plumbing and fuel system is installed, gas filler door is in the bed, oil feed and drain are in and tight. Have just small things to button up there.

Coil packs are relocated onto the framerails, plug wires are ordered and should be here in a day or two. Wiring is all laid out and ready to be loomed. everything got shortened and lengthened to be just the right length so its very tidy. I am trying to make the wire harness almost disappear in the truck. Hard to hide it in something that is so simple though. There is not a lot of dash area to hide things in.

So I turned to my wheeler side and ordered up this battery box from Trail Gear. Very happy with it, except that is says TG on it :judge: Its ok, I think its fitting for this project.
Finished drilling and got some paint on it.

And here is the old girl parked in her new home. Passenger side frame rail just under the bed floor in front of rear wheel.

And this is where I spent my entire day. There was about four feet of framerail that never got painted so I wire wheeled that and painted it finally. Looks good and needed to get done before I could get the wire ran and the bolts in for the hold down clamps.

Mounted up a battery disconnect switch in the bed floor with the future knowing that I would need a push pull from the back of the bed, so this should work for that. Its just a taylor single pole disconnect.

Moved onto the relays and power for the fuel system. I know that power makes these pumps run much better, so I gave it lots of power. Small fuse holder, and each pump gets its own dedicated 40 amp relay triggered from the GM ECU.

Installed and wired up.

Wired up the pumps, just waiting on hardware for these terminals but its wired.

Tranny Cooler installed, plumbed and wired up. Fused off the same little fuse block the fuel pumps are fused off of.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/Mobile%20Uploads/0302141926b_zps26hyvjj9.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/Mobile%20Uploads/0302141926b_zps26hyvjj9.jpg.html)
Negative battery cable is built and ran, main 12v is run from the battery terminal to the starter and clamped in place.
It doesn't look like a lot of progress by the pics and the end result, but soldering, shrink swpping and sleeving every single wire on the truck, often under the truck seems to take a lot of time.
I think I am almost done crawling around under this.
Need a couple fitting to finish the fuel lines.
Might invite a few people over next weekend and see if we can fire this turd up for the first time.

Been neglecting this project for a couple weeks.
I did manage to get all of the fuel system finished up as well as a majority of the wiring all wrapped up for the Fuel System, battery, and engine/alternator.
I had a friend machine down the factory coolant temp sender to 12mm so it will thread directly into the factory LS head. Still need to figure out a solution to the oil pressure sender. I have an adapter from 16mm to 1/4" pipe but the actual sender will not fit there so I think I need a 45° or a 30° fitting to make it clear the back of the manifold. Seems like I am putting a lot of work into making the factory gauges work.... I am trying to keep the interior as much 1960's as possible.
Met with a painter last night since I cannot seem to get motivated to put it all together like this. It needs paint of some kind on it.
Also I picked up some 17" FR500 wheels 9" Fronts and 10.5" rears.
275 on the front and 315's on the rear with plenty of room to go.

Well not too much to report in the last few weeks but I did manage to get a tranny dip stick that did not work. Cut the mount off it and re welded it and sent it out for powdercoat. Got it back on Sunday and got it bolted on. Looks great all stealthy in the back corner.
Picked up the driveline from Driveline services on Friday and got it installed last night.
Met with a painter on Saturday as well to discuss the truck. We hatched a game plan and a date so it was go time.
Pulled the front clip all back off last night for a few final fitment issues and for some clean up painting. Painted the underside of the fenders to match the bottom of the cab. Painted the lower part of the firewall and the cab where the inner fender covers to give it a finished appearance.
Got the turbo gasket installed, bolted down the turbo for good. Installed the Wastegate and the downpipe as well.
Here are a couple of shots of what I have got so far. He wants the front inner fenders and core support on the truck and bolted down so he can hang the fenders and install the hood, hood hinges and all that jazz, so I have some work to do still.

Thanks Trey. I think it turned out nice. Trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the exhaust system now. Toying with the idea of doing it all with 4" stainless and tig welding the entire thing but kind of want to keep the black theme going under the truck as well so I am a little torn.
I will try and keep some updates coming in the next few weeks as the truck gets into the body and paint stage.

Well the last week has been a total whirlwind of work. Had to change a clutch and fix some stuff on the daily driver so that got done Thursday night. Much better.
I managed last week to get the bed all pulled off, welded up all the extra holes in the bed floor, finish up the gas filler door in the bed, get the bottom of the bed all cleaned up and painted as well. Cleaned up the bottom side of the front fenders and got them painted as well. Also pulled all the wheels off and installed new brake pads all around.
Yesterday was a great day. Had some friends come over and give me a hand with a ton of stuff.
Built a little aluminum shield to keep the spark plug wires away from the steering column,
Hooked up all the grounds, both from the harness to the motor and the motor to the chassis
extended and terminated fuel level sender wiring from cab to rear mounted tank
rebuilt entire rear chassis harness and sleeved in loom, installed in truck
re routed rear most fuel lines through rear crossmemeber to clean up fuel lines
removed parking brake assembly from cab of truck
completely gutted doors of truck for paint work
installed and routed transmission wiring harness
removed front core support bushings
installed new core support bushings
installed inner fenders with all new stainless button head hardware
installed core support, radiator and upper radiator hose
installed brake fluid, fixed all leaks and bled the brakes
got a ton of stuff done, got the bed back on for transport and hauled it off to the painter late last night.
Did not have much time to shoot pics yesterday but here is what we got done....and don't worry that hot side housing will be getting taken care of, that was like two minutes of rain that did that.

Truck made some good progress the first few days at Southbound Customs. Filler neck hole and antenna got welded up and filler installed, all the farm holes in the bed got welded up along with the side reflectors. Seam sealer all got pulled out from the cab drip rails and seams. There was a tiny bit of rust in the passenger door skin that Aaron is going to cut out and patch but other than that its very solid and rust free.
I stopped by last week and after they got all that stuff welded up the truck started to look pretty clean, leaving the stake pockets in place just looked so out of place so I decided to get those welded up.
Outside of the truck will have no trim, mouldings, or extra stuff, just a super clean stock looking truck. At least that is the plan.
I talked with him yesterday and they were sanding and blocking out the bed getting it ready for primer. Hood got all warped by the blaster fella so Aaron doesn't know if he is going to fix it or get a different hood for it.
Will have a little bit of a lul in the action as Aaron is heading out of town for a week to the Rockabilly show in Reno with some friends and family.
Either way, I am happy with what they are doing to the truck. Still should be on track to have the truck back and painted by end of April or Early May.
Door Handles, tailgate handle, rear bumper and bumper bolts all are out for powder coating too.
Getting a little bit antsy not having the truck around to work on though.
Maybe Chris can post up a few pics here if he has a few extra minutes =)

Took a spin out to Aarons to check out the progress on the truck today. Looks great so far.
He is doing a great job!!
They finished up all the prep and shot the paint on the bed earlier today. Seam sealer looks great, like factory, bed rails are very clean and straight, even inside the box. Body work looks great as well. Paint is single stage PPG, with enough on to color sand it flat.

Aaron said Monday is going to be color sanding and buffing on the bed, he is hoping that they can get it out to get the bed line ex'd. Its going to be under the rails all the way around, front lip and tailgate as well.
If they dont get too busy this week they might get paint on the rest of the truck this week.
Super excited to see it moving along.
Thanks for all the hard work Chris.

Not a ton of progress, bed is color sanded, but not buffed out yet.
Stopped by to throw on my 17's and get some measurements for the final wheels.
I really want to run something big on the truck but want it to handle well and drive well.
Was originally shooting for a 275/40/20 but think its just too big. So do I run a 19" front wheel or shrink down the tire size to a 275/35/20? Outside diameter is my biggest problem, at the 28" height, the tire will damn near touch the front of the wheel well opening. 27" tire height is much better....
What do all you professional pro tourers say?
Rears should work out well. 20x11, 315/35/20
Thanks for the advise.

Still at a standstill on the wheels and tires....

Glad to hear it's coming along. I can't help with the wheel selection though. I just don't know how these trucks look with rims well enough to make a suggestion. The only thing I can recommend is to do a search and see what you can find pictures wise and see what looks good to you and matches the build style you're going for. Good luck!

Thanks for the props fellas, I think its coming along well. I know its a little out of the norm for this forum since its both a Ford and a truck =)
As far as the wheels go, I finally made the decision yesterday to order the wheels (should have done it two months ago).
Emailed back and forth with Jason yesterday and we got it ironed out. I just need to take a few measurements for him as soon as I can get out there.
Rushforth Rated X 20x8.5 fronts and 10.5 rears. Polished lips with a candy cleared brushed finish center, I believe that they should end up a little darker than the bumpers and grille, just enough to set off the centers a little bit from the rest of the truck. At least that is the plan, I think the Black centers would just be a little bit too dark for all the white.

Truck is coming along good, really good actually. Made it out there with a truck load of parts today to get installed. Aaron was there and he gave me a hand for a few hours and we shot the **** a bunch too.
Truck is pretty much all assembled after today minus a hood, hood latch, spray in bedliner, windshield and passenger door seal.
Got the rear bumper, front bumper, grille and headlights installed today. Front sheetmetal is on, still needs more alignment but looks awesome. All the stainless fasteners, powdercoated bits and pieces and fresh paint.
One thing I have noticed is that I may need to relocate the rear mount for the lower control arm and pull the frontend back a little, might have put that mount a little far forward and could not really notice it without the front fenders on it.
Here is a few of the not greatest photos....

I've been lurking on this build for a while. I've got a soft spot for these F100's and the same year range of Chevys too. The trucks are simple in design but that's what makes them look good.
Your truck is looking really nice and I can't wait to see what it does with the turbo LS.

Thanks for the props fellas. Means a lot, as I look at all the builds on this site and wonder how this fits in here.
Plan for the truck was to be very subtle. I really dig the idea of old cars with ultra modern big power in them. If I had the cash I would do even newer motors. They impress me a lot.
Making a little bit of progress this week. Managed to get the bed bolted down with all new stainless carriage bolts. I turned the heads so they have a nice brushed finish on them and replace the tailgate handle hardware as well. Brushed the main on off switch as well as got it installed and a few other odds and ends with the rear.
I guess I didnt snap a pic of that though.....oops :emb:
Finally got an air filter that will work with this crazy setup and threw on the Made in the USA turbo blanket. I like how the turbo setting is turning out.

Spent today working in the cab. Cleaned a lot, I did not repaint the interior, I like that it was so clean and original looking so I went to it with some purple power and some polishing compound. Then turned to the floors. There was some light surface rust so I hit it with Rust Mort two times and began to lay down 40 sq. Ft. of Hush mat. Also made a patch panel for the old shifter hole and got that all sealed up.

So, I got the shifter out of its box and began looking at mocking it up, and my dad and I both realized that the beautiful black mustang buckets he brought all the way down from seattle might not be the best fit right now......So I we got to work tearing apart the pretty sad and beat up stock bench seat. A few repairs here and there, some new paint and burlap and put on my new seat cover.
Considering the local upholstery guy could not get to it for a week and a half and wanted $325.00 just to fix the springs put down new foam and install the covers. I am pretty happy, it cost me an afternoon, $9.00 in burlap and a dinner for the wife and my dad.
I am hoping that the lines in the covers from shipping go away in time, I will probably let it sit out in the sun for a few days and see what happens.

I was having a little bit of a tough time with direction on Monday when I got the truck back and just started working back to front. It seems to be a pretty good way at this point of maintaining momentum and looking a few steps ahead. I still have two days of vacation, then the weekend.
Probably be close to buttoned up in the interior tomorrow aside from door panels, then I will start on running the rest of the wiring up front and firewall work.

Thanks guys,
Been working pretty steady the last few days of my time off. Yesterday was almost a total bust out for physical therapy, an interview (work related) and chasing down parts.
Got the carpet all installed, cut out and fit. It fits very well, I am surprised, these repop carpet kits rarely fit well. Seat Cover fit very nice also.
Shifter got all mounted up on the floor as well. Turned out well and I really like the shifter too.

So today was fun filled, pulled the grille and headlights back off and tucked the entire front harness up under the inner fenders. Spent most of the day soldering and heat shrinking, running wires all neat and clean and the best part of it, is that you cannot see any of it.....
All I have to show is the turn signal buckets and lenses. But now they are all wired up and should work once I turn on the power.

Naake has a setup there for it that he puts together. Its basically a QA1 coilover with a little different spring setup for the stock frontend but its pretty nice stuff, have heard great things about Mike Naake as well.
Still need to figure out how to get this front sway bar on there as well....
Its been very challenging this week not even being able to touch the truck with School and a fathers day weekend of camping coming up. Ill get back on it though next week. Should be a good weekend with my pops and brother in law anyways.

Oh geez no, I am just a working man for a living. I built up the benches from scratch and did two of the big craftsman bottom boxes for the bottom of the bench. They just slide into the metal frames.
Look like this when I built them.

Thanks Chuck,
I have looked at that a few times and agree. When looking straight on with the front end jacked up in the air the white is pretty noticeable. I am hoping that once the frontend is lowered down to ride height and the hood is on it will hardly be noticeable.
The problem with doing paint on it would be that there is no clean line to do the paint as you look at it from different angles you would be able to see the tape line and the change from black to white. Also, looking down from the top with the hood open you would see a paint line.
Ill see how it looks when its all together and go from there.....I am paying attention to that. I think if anything I would do a black wrap behind the grille to see how it looks before paint.
I heard from a little birdie today that the Hood and Door panels have some paint on them...
Should have everything bolted on and aligned early next week.
Thanks to the paintboys Chris and Aaron.

As long as your using stock lower control arms, the CV sway bar will bolt to the frame. Center up the bar mounts, drill the holes and mount it up. Just make sure the links are vertical.

Yeah I have seen a few others do this before, Going for the aftermarket bar so I can have it powdercoated and nicer bushings as well as a bigger bar for better handling. Stock Lower Control arms, so we should be solid.
So these showed up Friday afternoon and hung out in my office all weekend along with a bunch of stuff from LMC Truck.
Headliner, seat slider knob and the wrong brake pedal pad.....I think it was my fault though.

But these are pretty sweet.
I have been sick for the last three days, battling some nasty ass cold but really hope to get some time to get all this stuff installed this week once I am feeling better. Having the truck not at ride height is just bothering me.
I heard From Aaron that the hood and door panels got some paint on them last week, they were waiting for them to harden up a little bit before bringing them over to install and align the hood and frontend.

Still feeling like crap but I did manage an hour or so this evening out in the garage.
Got the headliner installed, looks ok. Its Gray just like the factory would be. I did not think I liked it at first but its growing on me now. Keeps the top of the cab a little lighter than if it was black.

After a lot of screwing around with the side mirror, its finally back on the truck. The actual Mirror portion still needs a little bit of work but Ill deal with that later down the road once its at least driven under its own power.
New rubber, new screws and here it is all mounted up. Looks alright, still not super happy but I think it will work.

Stopped by Aarons place and chatted with him and Chris for a little bit after work. Hood is about finished up and door panels are all done so I brought those home tonight. We are going to fit up the frontend and get the hood on Thursday night. Will be the first time seeing the truck all together since August of last year.
Got one door buttoned up tonight, somehow I managed to misplace one of the window cranks....So passenger side still needs one of those but panels are on and the inner latch releases and arm rests are in.
Doors are a little stark but I think they are very fitting for the look I am shooting for.....very clean stockish appearing from the outside looking in. Wish I had a different shifter, I might get the aluminum cover and lever powdercoated black to blend in with the floor better.

Personally, I'd go with a different color (black) for the door cards. They are going to be really hard to keep clean and it's just a bit too much white IMHO. Even painting the outer edge (where the screws go through) black might do the trick to break it up a little.

I can get Black Plastic door cards later down the road if I choose to. This is how the truck came from the factory though, White painted door cards so that is what it is getting for this time around.
It is a lot of white, but looks really clean and I like that. Not too sure I could pull off a black trim around the panel, I think it would give it a bit of a cheesy look, 80's vintage, but I never really thought about it.
This interior is temporary though.
It will get a full custom interior next winter, just running out of time for summer and need it on the road soon.
It will be getting a full Saddle Leather interior setup, buckets, full center console and door panels.

That's how it get's done! A while back I was working on my project mostly on the weekends because I didn't really feel like doing anything at night after work. Then I realized how much time I was wasting when I was trying to get everything done on the weekends. Not to mention finding problems and having to wait for a new part to be delivered or something.
When I started working on it a little bit whenever I had the chance, stuff started moving along much more quickly.

I totally agree. Usually I spend a whole day on the weekend just getting parts together so I can keep working.
Speaking of little bits.
I managed to finish up the rest of the wiring in the engine bay, all loomed landed grommeted and ran into the cabin.
Aaron and Chris showed up and got right to it. We got the hood on and rough aligned and then went to work on shimming up the core support. Once it was at the right height, we squared it all up and got the hood final aligned, hood latch installed and done.
Thanks again to those guys at Southbound Customs!!
I have only seen this thing one time all complete, but it looked nothing like this. The hood totally changed what this thing looks like.

WOW, Thanks guys for the feedback.
This last week has been :G-Dub: for me.... not compared to most of the other builds on here though.
Yesterday was a little bit of a bust, but did manage to figure out a solution for that terrible stock steering wheel. I cannot really believe it but I settled on a Grant Classic wheel. I think it is fitting for the truck, the era and the stockish look I am going for.
Its brushed stainless center and foam rubber outer and I think it looks pretty good.

Also managed to finish up the heater hoses and heater control valve. I ended up using some DEI heat wrap on the 3/4" outlet from the water pump to the heater core as its really close to the crossover to the turbo, but it should be alright. Time will tell. Its all new even the metal factory ford Heater Control valve from Dennis Carpenter.

I also managed to get the TAC module mounted up under the dash button up the glovebox wiring, finish the starter wiring and run the brake switch wire over to the pedal area, just need to verify where it needs to land.
Today is more than likely Torque converter bolts, all fluids, shifter cable, and maybe swap out the third member if I have time and desire to lay under the truck for a few hours.
Oh and clean up the mess in the shop.

Cleaned up the shop, it was a total mess. Got the truck up on jack stands and worked on the shifter. Got the shifter cable installed with the right brackets on the tranny and got it adjusted as per the manual.
Bolted up the converter, but not sure if I was supposed to use spacers between the flex plate and the converter as it was shipped with some washers. I cannot imagine that I should have installed those, but you never know.
I will email Chris at Circle D and find out if I need them in there or not.
Buttoned up the wiring and pretty much everything else. I ran out of **** to do on it other than putting fluids in it and firing it up.
Put it back on the ground, put the shifter in park and the truck still rolls. Messed around with the shifter a little bit and you can just barely hear a click click click when it is pushed in park.
I know that it is all mechanical in there but have to wonder if I should fire it up and see what happens or just pull the tranny now?
Anyone have any experience with this?
If this tranny needs to come out, it may just be the thing that stops my progress on this thing... I don't know if I have the energy and time right now to go backwards that much.

No really, my shop gets pretty bad when I am in work mode. Its a total disaster after last nights shenanigans.
No big fantastic picture update....
Pulled the pan off the tranny last night and found some weird hard brittle plastic chunks that almost look like pieces of old filter in the bottom of the pan. Now keep in mind that I had just recently put in a trans go HD2 shift kit in this and those pieces were not in there before. I believe that there was a small piece of something in the linkage for the parking pawl not letting it engage. I took the pawl apart cleaned everything and put it back in and it works exactly how it should now.
My buddy Chris was over about this time and we got to work. Primed the turbo, checked for drain, filled the tranny with fluid, put 5 quarts of 5/30 in the motor.
Then it was time to see how the electrical system was going to react. Installed both battery terminals and made a quick check for smoke or problems. I had most of the fuses out at this point for stuff. Turned on the disconnect switch and no smoke. Put in the main fuse for the truck wiring. Checked the parking, brake and headlights. They all worked.
Put the key in the ignition and turned it on, computer fires up ALDL light comes on.
Chris manned the ignition, while I climbed under the truck. I popped a fuse in for each pump he bumped the ignition and both fuel pumps fire up with the ignition.
Even the blower fan worked for the heating system.
I have done a lot of electrical but to get everything to work on the first try was pretty impressive for me.
We hit the key and bumped the starter and Ill be damned, it turned over. :D
So we went and grabbed some fuel and threw a couple gallons in the tank and began the priming process. Here is where I encountered problem number one. Those pumps primed almost immediately. However it did highlight rather fast the fact that I did not install a 1/8" plug in the y fitting in the fuel system and it covered me, my face, shirt and garage floor with fresh fuel. I got a plug and threw it in there. We primed the system and made sure we were getting fuel back to the tank. Those pumps flow a LOT of fuel together. No leaks so far.
So we gave it a go. Acts like the battery is dead when cranking, jump box on, no difference, charger on, no difference, pick up new battery, nope. I ran a jumper cable from the battery negative to the water pump and it was much better. Turns over and tried to fire up.
Sounds like something is wrong in the firing order. I am going to double check the wiring to and from the coil packs and make sure I have that all right, right coil to right cylinder and so fortth.
Also found that the fuel sender in the bottom of the tank is leaking so I need to pull that back out tonight and see whats up with it. I think its just the seal, hope its not something more major than that.
Few little things to fix still but a pretty rewarding night for me.
As always, thanks for the help Chris.

Ask and you shall receive.
I ran a 1/0 guage wire directly from the negative battery terminal directly to the a/c bracket bosses on the side of the block. Cleaned off everything very well of paint and stuff.
I knew that something was not quite right with the firing order so I printed out the wiring diagram for the coil packs as that was the one thing I did not know if I had right, I suspected the 2-8 bank for some reason.
Sure enough I had the odd bank in the right order but had the even bank wired backwards so signal 8 went to cylinder 2 and 2 went to 8. All it took was swapping the plugs on the coils.
I was sure it was not going to fire so I just hopped in, turned the key and the damn thing fired right up. I mean right up like it was meant to be.
Video makes it sound much quieter than it is. In person its pretty damn loud with the open exhaust. Turbo makes some nice noises too.
I pulled the fuel level sender to find a leak in the return fitting so I am dealing with that.
Need to drain the tranny and reseal the pan too, it leaks like crazy, just at the pan gasket though.
Damn happy though.

Nice!
I thought the same thing as you when I went to try to fire up my '69 LS1 swap a few weeks ago. "Bah, it isn't going to start the first time anyway" and I had the same results. Fired right up.
I was a little apprehensive about swapping in a modern engine/computer. Especially one that i did all the wiring myself. However; after doing it, I don't think I'll put a carburetor on anything ever again. Now that I've done it once, I can't wait to swap an LS engine into something else!
Of course, it helped that I had sent the PCM off to someone that knew what they were doing to program it before hand.

I will never work on a motor with a carb again. After doing a few ls swaps with factory GM stuff and building a volvo on Megasquirt I am totally sold on late model motors in early sheetmetal. It is what I love to do. Old looks with new operation and performance.
Awsome! Even with all the small issues, I bet you are super happy!

Totally. I put in the repaired sender last night and that was it. I watched a little bit of TV and hung out with the wife last night. I think she was pretty happy about my choice to not be in the garage last night.
I ordered up all of my exhaust yesterday and should have everything to build that this weekend.
Hopefully get the tranny pan all fixed up and sealed up and back on the truck.
Chris at Circle D wants me to double check the flexplate to converter gap and make sure its between .125 and .150, I think its more than that and might need some spacers in there.
So it will probably be at least another week until I get to see if it will move under its own power.
Thanks for the compliments and I am super excited that it all works, still pretty stoked just that everything I did worked :confused59:

Had a crazy busy week at work but I did manage to order in a few things this week. Mostly exhaust parts, but did order in this cool little catch can for the radiator.
Measured about ten different ones but ended up with this little guy from Summit Racing.
Its a great fit and was a pretty straighforward install. This area is getting a little busier than I had hoped for but trying my best to keep everything very simple and clean but still very functional.

Also in some crazy feat of a miracle all of my exhaust parts showed up. I have 8' of 4" 16 guage tubing, 2 mandrel 180's 2 mandrel 90's, 2 mandrel 45's 1 4" flex coupler, 1 Dynatech race muffler, 3 hangers and a few other bits.
Trying to decide if I want to try and run 4" Exhaust up and over the axle and clear a rear mounted gas tank lowered truck and not a lot of clearance or just do a side exit angle cut in front of the passenger rear tire...
Suggestions?

I am kind of in agreement with that but physically do not think it will fit.
4" is huge exhaust to run on a lowered truck. I will have it up on a rack around 9 this morning. Should give me a much better idea if I will be able to make it happen or not.

These trucks are my favorite vintage Ford truck. Would have been cool with Ford power but this thing is going to be insane regardless. Very excited to see it finished.
I'd run the exhaust out in front of the tire. Through the bed exit is neat too. Or just dump it under the bed.

Thanks Dan for the compliment and suggestion. For some reason and I think it might be my age or the era I grew up in but I am not a fan of dual exhaust. It just seems too 80's for some reason.

Thank you sir. I am still just a young guy building cars when it comes to others on here. I tend to like the simple cars with cool drivetrains.
I went up to my neighbor Brians place and got the truck up on the lift for the day to work on the exhaust.
It was a damn good thing too, it would have taken me 4x as long to get this done on the garage floor. Actually, I might not have been able to do it on my floor at all with the clearance needed to pull the parts and weld them out.
Turns out that it would not have worked well at all to do the side exit in front of the tire. It would have made it necessary to remove the exhaust to get to the battery and it kind of looked terrible.
I ended up running 4" from the downpipe, over the first crossmember, then to a flex pipe and hanger then a 4" Vband to split the exhaust in two pieces for removal purposes.
Then into the muffler, over the rear axle and out the passenger side between the bumper and rear tire.
It was a ridiculously tight fit getting past the tranny, over the x member and below the body then over the axle and between the spring and fuel tank.
It turned out pretty good. Under the truck has awesome ground clearance, under the tank the very rear is pretty low but still a good 5 or 6" off the ground. I am not worried at all.
Here are a few crappy pics....I am going to paint the rear most section with high temp satin black paint to make it not stand out as much.

Had a great day of work today in Brian's shop. Taking advantage of his lift has been awesome.
Pulled the rearend apart and installed the 31 spline 3.50 gear posi third member and got it all back together before lunch.
Got the tranny pan torqued
Pulled the converter loose from the flex plate and checked the clearance and it was in spec so I put that all back together.
Put on some DEI Heat protection on the tranny cooler lines above the exhaust.
Mounted the shifter cable out of the way of damage from the exhaust.
Filled the tranny back up with fluid and checked for major leaks. Non so far.
Fired the truck up and let it heat up. It got hot fast...faster than it should.
Pulled one of the heater hoses off and filled the rest of the motor with water and got it back together.
Started it back up and it was much better but noticed a lot of top end noise. Something is not quite right. So much that I was not going to run it any more. Pulled the drivers side valve cover and there was very little oil getting up there.
Not too sure what the problem is but hoping that its simple. I have oil pressure on the guage but doing some reading it might be the o ring on the pickup and the pump is sucking in air and sending that out with the oil.
By that time, I was exhausted...literally and was pretty beat from the last two days of work.
So instead of getting to see if the truck actually shifted into gears and moved on its own power, we figured out how we could tow it back uphill to my house.
Beyond deflated right now. :(
Ill try and screw with it this week if i can find the time.

Sean - Big day!!
Just FYI --- a LOT of these 6.0 motors had major piston flop... when they were cold you could hear the pistons going kerflop kerflop.... once the forged pistons got some heat in them they'd quiet right down.
Not sure that's the noise you're hearing.... but it's very unnerving and GM got LOTS of complaints about it... but of course it was "normal".
hackster

It doesn't sound like piston slap at all and did not go away when it warmed up....it seems like it got worse when it warmed up. My 5.3 has a little piston slap and goes away within just a few moments.
I am going to pull the pan tonight when I get home and see if the o ring on the pickup is cracked or broken. Sounds like it could lead to aeration on the pressure oil side.
I am really hoping that it is something simple.

Just not working on it last night was good for clearing my head.
I also managed to shoot the exhaust top black and about a 18" of the exhaust. It looks pretty sick. Better than I imagined it would turn out as far as what you can see from outside the truck.

This may not be correct so take it with a grain of salt....but my engine made quite a bit of valve train noise when I first started it up as well. I was pretty worried at first but I had good pressure. In the end, I attributed it to months sitting in my garage and who knows how long sitting in the salvage yard without oil circulation.
In my case, it cleared up after about 15 minutes or so of running if you count all the times I had it started and shut off.
You can hear the racket in my startup video on my thread.
Every time I started it up, I'd wait for the sound to go away before reving it. Eventually, it stopped making that noises on startup.
Like I said, you may have a real problem but then again, you may not.
hackster
07-01-2014, 05:40 AM
Thanks for the advise.
I came home after work and started it up. It would actually get a lot worse after the initial startup and it got worse quite fast. Within a minute it was ticking fairly bad....I could tell I had a problem.
So I had stopped by the stealership on the way home from work and grabbed an o ring for the oil pump pickup like I had read about on some other posts.
I jacked up the truck and got to work pulling the pan. Its a ****ty job under there. Pan and pickup have to go in and come out together so your literally working inside of the oil pan.
Pulled the pan and found the problem. I had unintentionally chopped a good section of the o ring off and it was inside of the oil pickup tube causing what I would guess a massive air leak on the suction side of the oil pump.
This was all speculation at this point though so It was clean everything up, install the new o ring and put everything back together.
New oil filter got installed, pan got reinstalled, oil drain and feed lines reinstalled.
Filled her up with 5 quarts of 5w30 and turned the key......:ohsnap:
Within 5 seconds the motor was dead quiet. I could instantly tell that I had fixed the problem.:headspin:
So onto other things, I put it in gear for the first time and it moved on its own power about a foot forwards and a foot backwards.
Tonight should be more testing, leak checks and maybe even see if it will go down the driveway.
So relieved at this point though.

You and I must be wired alike. It was the biggest sigh of relief in months..well weeks.
I was giddy like a school girl when I heard it quiet right down. It now sounds like an ls should.
It did highlight thought that I hate the muffler I put on it. It just sounds raspy and loud to me not deep and throaty. Probably be cutting that out this week.
Also reminded me that I have a deadline coming up and I need to keep my eye on the prize. Its time to button up all the little loose ends and get this thing on the road. I still need to get it to the tuner before the show and it will have probably a week at the paint shop getting work done on it there buttoning up some wet sanding and polishing.
Here is my little reminder about how not to put this together the next time. Pretty surprised that the little piece stayed inside the oil pickup tube. It was literally inside the pipe when I pulled it off.

Made its first road venture last night. Filled up the tank and did a few errands around town. Truck drives amazingly well for its very first drive. I was hesitant at first but it did just fine, no rattles or vibrations so I hopped on the freeway on the way home and it is just a cruiser, comfortable plenty of power even out of boost and just drives well. I had a pretty big grin on my mug last night
Couple little things to still address like shift points and some occasional weird ECU problem with the TAC module.
But its getting there. No real reason I should not make it up for GoodGuys at the end of the month.
Parts that should show up in the next few days:
Rushforth Rated X wheels
Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires
80 lb Siemens DEKA injectors
2 bar MAP Sensor
Devils Own Water Meth injection setup
Really nervous about the wheels and tires not fitting...they are pretty big. Guess we will see in a few days though

Not at all PT but Amocat throws a good party Saturday night, more of the period correct cars with a couple FED's that they cackle after dark.

I have another 68 f100 that we will be running at the drags that night. Blue and white pro street long bed truck. Its pretty gheto but has a 500 cu. in. motor with some spray, converter, built c6, spool and a 9" with some stuff. We have yet to run a pass with it but it should be pretty quick.
Flag me down if you see me, would be good to meet you. Amocat you say? Where would one find this Amocat?
Sean,
I just went through the whole thread and wondered if you had any problem with parts availability/quality issues as far as the Ford specific parts for the body, trim etc?
Also, maybe I missed your explanation, but what made you choose the CV front suspension setup?
Thanks...
Although they are not nearly as supported as a 67-72 chevy, there are a couple of places to get specific parts for it. Dennis Carpenter and LMC were my two best resources and they both had great fit and finish. Carpenter stuff is better quality but much higher prices, I had no issue finding parts and pieces.
Crown Vic swap is pretty well known as being almost a bolt in setup on these trucks. The width is perfectly matched for the stock front framerails and its a very straightforward swap on the truck.
Drove the truck out to Cars and Coffee on Saturday last weekend and it was good. Super gentle, not even close to boost.
Upon leaving there the truck died headed up to the freeway offramp. Managed to get the power shut down clear whatever was going on with it and it made it back home.
It did it again leaving the freeway (different freeway) and conveniently there was a police officer behind me.....he was rather aggitated at my situation, especially since I think he was getting ready to pull me over. He flipped his lights on and i got the truck started (still no accelerator pedal function) and limped it up and off the off ramp and then off the main road. He could sense my frustration, asked if I needed a hand and went on his merry way.
Setting a code this time and I could not get it to clear. Found out that the code has something to do with tac module, accelerator position switch or throttle body.
So I started to unplug TAC module and worked my way down the line until I could get the code cleared.
Limped it back home and started going through the troubleshooting steps. Spent the entire day on saturday going through all the TAC wiring, tac operation, grounds, power, signal and the like.
While doing some resistance testing on the pedal I began to find that the APP2 resistance and APP1 resistance were not reading anywhere near the factory specs and learned how the computer uses those signals together to determine actual pedal position.
I managed to track down a replacement at a local parts place and picked it up about 10 minutes before they closed.
Got it installed and I have not seen that code again. Back to getting MAF and Knock codes now :bomb:
I am trying to get all the little details done now. One thing that was bothering me terribly were the ugly ass stock valve covers with the bosses for the coil packs.
I looked for weeks for the right setup to just buy new but could not come up with anything that I liked so I went to town on the stockers cleaning them up.
I cut off all the bosses and filled the non structural holes with JB weld. THen ground everything down all nice and flush and went over the entire valve cover with a DA to get it smooth.
I am sure you have all seen a stock cover, so here is my cut down post next to a finished one.

Here is the finished product in better light. I think they look good, hit it with some VHT Wrinkle black and baked it on for an hour in my makeshift oven. Cardboard box sealed up with a hair dryer running in a hole cut in the box.

Also managed to take my very, very understanding and super excited better half out for a first little drive. To say she was excited is an understatement.

And I have the PLX stuff up and running very nicely now. Stuff is pretty slick and I am super happy with the operation. Running a tablet via bluetooth and being able to see diagnostics, guages and log data all while not hooked to anything is pretty bad ass.
Here is a screen shot, guages are totally customizable but this is the Dash Command setup.
Would buy again in a heartbeat.

Managed to snap a quick photo of the truck out and about with some descent sunlight last night out trying out the gas pedal some more.
Insert photo here when Photobucket decides to upload my photos.
Was a long weekend of frustration and to top it off I put a dent in the drivers door on a curb. Its all the way at the bottom of the door, but its still there......It made me literally sick to my stomach. I think I made this thing too nice for me to own, I like to use stuff

Sean,
First off, I'm sorry to hear about your various mishaps. :(
Thanks for the front suspension/CV info.
Due to your posting this build thread, I found out over the weekend that this series F100 was the last vehicle my father-in-law owned (he passed when my wife was very young), so we are now seriously looking at doing one.

No worries on the mishaps, its part of both building and learning right? I doubt if I would run an electronic pedal again unless I have to, its kind of a pain. As far as the dent...:snapout: is what I keep telling myself and to get over it.
They are good old trucks, super easy to work on and parts are all over the place. If I can help with any of your project research just let me know.

Thanks Greg, I have spent hours reading through your new shop build, pretty much a little every night, its rediculous how awesome it is. Makes my little garage seem so underwhelming :confused59:
Valve covers are good, nothing fancy at all, just fitting for the motor and the build. I guess that is similar to the rest of the truck though.
I think that other than our rock buggy, this is her favorite thing I have built to date. Ill probably have a tough time selling either of those ones.
I am still losing sleep over that stupid dent. Its small, like a door ding and all the way at the bottom of the door, but it just makes my stomach turn thinking about it right now....
Devils Own kit showed up at the office this morning. Its a nice little piece, little spendy for what it is though.
Injectors, MAP sensor showed up yesterday so I am pretty much ready to tear into the truck install that stuff and take it to the tuner.

Wheels shipped out yesterday and should be here at my office on Thursday so hoping to get tires mounted up Thursday or Friday to check for fitment.
I raised up the front last night and took some measurements on the frontend. 255/40/20 might just fit....might not have any up travel but they might fit.

Looking good! Hopefully the electronic gremlins are solved.
We all know there will be things that go wrong during the "shakedown" of these projects, and as long as it's stuff you can figure out it's ok. It's the stupid stuff that makes no sense that makes a guy agitated.
I've always wanted to do a truck in this year range but I'm still having a hard time deciding if I'd do a ford or a chevy. Either would have Chevy power of course!. I think it would come down to which had more interior room for a tall guy like me.

If we go ahead with it, the plan would be to run a cammed Ford SOHC 6.2L.
How difficult could that be?

Pretty sure that motor would be a bolt in, you could probably use the stock mounts and everything.
So wheels showed up yesterday and they are beautiful. I have had some nice wheels in my day, but these are far nicer. Attention to detail like hidden valve stems on the backside of the wheels tucked behind a spoke and full paint and polish on the backside of the wheels mounting surface is just amazing.
Got everything in the truck and headed to Americas tire where my tires await.
All wheels fit up just fine so that was a good thing, brake clearance was good all the way around and offset on the fronts was perfect. Rears could be pushed in quite a bit more....more on that later.
First problem we ran into was the rear tires. 315/35/20 michelin next to a 315 sumitomo...
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/0717141427_zpsg4y6yojf.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/0717141427_zpsg4y6yojf.jpg.html)
They were a full inch wider than the sumitomo's and we knew it would not fit.
I had ordered in a full set of 295/35/20 just in case as well. They were the same width as the 315 sumitomos and look awesome on the wheels, nice and square.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/0717141519_zpsi1wqqyyj.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/0717141519_zpsi1wqqyyj.jpg.html)
Tyson doing a great job of mounting the tires....new jaws on the wheel machine. We spent almost four hours messing around with this yesterday.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/0717141458_zpsuezd6yxs.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/0717141458_zpsuezd6yxs.jpg.html)
So, the problem I ran into was that the rear wheels did not fit....by a long shot. I thought I would have more room than I did.
Drove home on two new fronts and two old rears and was pretty irritated at that point.
Talked to the Chris the painter and told him I was either going to roll the lips or cut them......
So I took a ginder with the flapper wheel to the lips of the rear fenders....brand new paint yep and hitting it with a grinder..
Luckily I am pretty skilled with a grinder and did not mess up any of the paint anywhere. so it will just be a little touch up on the backside of the lip and be good to go.

Fronts barely clear, I really need to figure out how to move that front end back a little bit cause the wheel is to the front of the wheel well not centered but nothing I can do about it right now.

Thanks for all the kind words fellas, pretty excited how the truck is turning out.
Been a busy few days around here. Dropped the truck off at the painters on Friday morning for him to touch up a few spots of paint, color sand and buff the front fenders and the hood and a few other nick nacky areas on the truck.
While it was out there I spent a few hours roaming around the wrecking yard trying to find some small stuff and a good flasher switch and bezel to go on the dash.
Picked up the truck this morning from Aaron's place and him and Chris did another great job on the truck. It looks awesome.
Got it home and off the trailer, my LS swapped 240 was in the driveway and I thought it was pretty cool so I snapped a quick photo...
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/hackster1/f100%20LS%20Swap/0720141308_zps6v4dyylm.jpg (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/hackster1/media/f100%20LS%20Swap/0720141308_zps6v4dyylm.jpg.html)
Also been toying around with running one single emblem on the truck, just a little indicator that its not a 390 in it anymore.
So I came up with this. Its all color matched to the body and looks pretty unsuspecting.

I think its pretty discreet, but not 100% sold on it. If I like it Ill go ahead and order something up that is the proper logo.
This is an LS badge from a later model cavalier and an X from a newer ford explorer.
I was getting the knock p code still so I order a couple of sensors and the replacement harness for sensors out of the valley cover. I pulled the intake this afternoon replaced both of the knock sensors and cleaned out the holes and threads.
I noticed while in there that I have some excessive oil on the backside of the valves while the engine is not running. Not too sure what is causing that, probably need to come up with some kind of evac system is my guess...
Fitted up the vacuum lines from the intake to the fuel pressure regulator and the wastegate.
I was going to swap out injectors and MAP sensor but it would be a total pain to load it up in the morning and get it on the trailer to go to the tuner.
I am super nervous about the tuning/dyno tomorrow.
Hope I post up that all went well and its on the road for good.

I talked with him at the nostalgia drags and saw the truck, super clean and the Rushforth rims looked incredible in person! Couple weeks later I ran into him at the Portland OUSCA deal. He showed up to watch in the Volvo he built, I gotta say, that thing is fuggin bad! LS, 5 or 6 spd, original paint, super clean install and some nice CCW's.
If I remember the truck was still getting some tuning and made something like 480hp with pretty low boost. When I left he was searching Craigslist for a Fairmont and a 26" BMX cruiser.

Well, this build kind of took a little turn for the last few weeks.
After the big push to get the truck done for Goodguys Puyallup and have it run like crap that entire weekend when it ran at all I worked with a few guys on LS1 tech to get a new computer with the proper operating system in it and decided to start over on a tune with HP tuners.
Anthony setup an ecu with a 6.0 4l80E tune. Ron came over and we spent an entire 100 degree Sunday messing around with the truck trying to get a tune on it. We had the truck running but the tune was still wrong. We checked the fuel pressure at the rail and it was waaay too high at 92 psi. I pulled the fuse on one pump and the pressure at the rail came down to 58 psi right where it should be.
With one pump running the cavitation I was experiencing got worse. As the truck was running we could watch the datalog and see the truck going from rich to lean and back again. As the pump would cavitate it would go lean, then the pump would pick up and get quiet and it would go rich.
Ron headed out of town for a few weeks after that and I literally have not touched the truck. It is in the exact same spot with the ecu hanging out of the glove box that it was when Ron left.
I need to rebuild the fuel system. I am pretty sure I will just do a new tank with an Aeromotive Phantom system in the top of the tank. I cannot get the Bosch 044 below the level of the tank sump without it being super low to the ground.
With that being said, I have lost pretty much all motivation to work on it this summer with just a few weeks of nice weather left up here I am going to enjoy it out doing something instead of working on the truck.
does it boost yet??
A little....6lbs and 50% Throttle and the thing is still stupid fast on a terrible tune.

Funny guy you are. Was good to see you guys two weekends in a row kind of funny how much we have in common really.
Thanks for the props man, car is pretty damn fun to cruise around town in. Been racking up some miles the last few weeks on it too. Got just under 30 MPG heading down south last week.
Let me hear more about this Daikin VRF stuff you want to know about. I am a Daikin authorized 3D dealer here at work and we have installed lots of them...

Thanks, lots of thought went into them and even though they are not really the right font, they look pretty slick.
Rushforth put the truck on his Facebook page and I was a little suprised at how many haters there were on the Chevy powerplant in the Ford.
I guess after years and years of engine swaps, I dont even think about it anymore, cool is cool in my book. If someone put a ford in a chevy and did a great job of it and it made a great car as an end result I would care less of who made what part.
I guess when the weather gets ****ty here, Ill pull the hood off for Aaron and Chris to work their magic on it and get a fuel system ironed out.
Dan, Ill pm you my number.

Ordered up new fuel rails and adjustable fuel pressure regulator with a gauge on it yesterday.
Going to reconfigure the fuel pumps location to right at the tanks, get rid of one of the filters and plumb it up differently. This should hopefully fix my fuel system woes and get me back to doing some tuning on the truck.
Not having it running or driving after all this major work due to what I believed to be a small problem is pretty annoying. I just need to get it fixed and get it out to use it. It does nobody any good just sitting in the garage taking up space.
More to report in a few days.

For those that are following along with this here is my most recent update.
New Billet fuel rails, adjustable fuel pressure regulator are installed and quite nice looking.
I lowered the mounts for the fuel pumps several inches and ended up with much happier fuel pumps. We were able to set the fuel pressure right where it needed to be at 58 labs and fire up the truck and the pumps sound so much better now. =)
My friend Ron and I have been working on getting it running better for the past few weeks and learning as we go. We were stumped for a long while as even though we had the MAF failed in the tune, the truck would not allow us to make any changes to the VE Table and we were getting no code for MAF not being there.
Ron finally figured out a few settings in the tune that we needed to change and we were finally able to fail the MAF and make changes to the actual correct VE Table. this was the last day that we were able to work on it. Ron took off for a week in the Desert and I then took off for a few days and headed to Vegas for a long weekend with the wife.
Weather is turning to fall weather up in Portland now so most likely this will be stuck in the garage for the next several months. I am really hoping that we can get a descent tune on it get it running and driving reliably and make a little boost so I can tear into it for this winters round of work.
15" front Wildwood brake setup to finish off the brakes and a totally custom interior.
Hope to get some photos up here soon to get this thread more exciting =)

Power Tour would be super fun.. I think im going to do a turbo LQ4 or maybe a 5.3 in my camaro with a 6 speed, after seeing your truck and doing some research I cant see putting a bunch of money into a gen 1 small block again. Did you ever bring the hood back to Aaron?

Not yet...there are a few other things that need to be sorted out over the winter with the paint. The seam sealer on the cab and the bed continues to crack the paint, the bed is getting worse along the horizontal seam and above the drip rail on the cab is really bad. I am concerned. Are you not working out there anymore? Hope you are you do great work man.
I would do a 5.3 in your camaro in a heartbeat. They are cheap and easy to get your hands on, get it up and running and then put some boost to it. I wish I would have gone that route instead of Boosted from the start.
The Gen 1 motors are just old these days. I can get an easy 300hp junkyard 5.3 that will run circles around an old carb small block for a fraction of the money. Let me know if I can help, I would be happy to.
Good job, Sean. I hope you're able to get it out a couple more times before winter sets in.
Thank you....you and me both.

Super happy with how the black billet rails and the regulator worked out. I was able to mount the regulator directly on the back of the fuel rail cleaning up the entire setup.

Thanks for following along still.
Sorry for the lack of activity on here.......Truck has been holding down my garage floor for a while now. Fuel system is all ironed out and we have it running but still not tuned. Running out of time the past few months and thinking of taking it in to a tuner to get the rest of the tune ironed out. It is a very time consuming task for the novice to get it running good enough for boost.
Did a bit of cleaning on the old truck this past week in some spare time. Still trying to figure out the tune thing but have been burried with house stuff the past several months.
Never really had any good photos of the truck out of the garage so I snapped a few of them. Truck looks good in my opinion. Dropped the front a little more.
Trying to see if they will let it into the Portland Roadster show as well.
Probably going to look into ripping the frontend apart, doing 14" willwood's up front and powdercoating all the frontend parts for more clean and shine under there. Front suspension is the only real area I wish I would have torn apart and painted/powdercoated better.

Do it!!!!
Huge thanks to Ron for all his help on this, we had a great day. I think we are past the little gremlins as we were not only able to successfully tune this thing today but we were able to drive it around....quite a bit if I might ad too.
Made a lot of changes to the VE table and got it running well enough to even get it into some boost.
For the first time since this whole build started I was able to drive it around with a smile on my face. No weird transmission shifting issues, no dying, no weird hesitations or funky things when the fan turned on or shut off, it was like driving a brand new car.
Shot a couple of pictures of it with the man responsible for making my entire weekend!!!
Did I mention that the weather here was amazing today?
We put about 25 or so miles on it without a hiccup and have it pretty damn happy for where we are at in the tune. More to come soon so stay tuned.

Drove to work, lunch, ran some errands after work and just had an epic day enjoying the truck.
Damn thing is a hoot to drive. Big boosted V8 with an Auto and a real converter in it is way more fun to drive than I ever imagined. If I can get traction, I bet it will be a pretty quick little ride.

The weather here was just amazing this weekend. I managed to spend the entire weekend not doing much, helped out a few buddies and spent some quality time with the wife.
Cleaned up the shop though, like clean clean, pulled all the stuff out, scrubbed and pressure washed all the floors. Cleaned everything up before it went back in the shop too.
I took the truck out for a little bit yesterday, drove it over to a buddies house to pull apart a jeep liberty top end. What a job, got one head off and found it cracked so we made the call and ordered up two refurbished heads for it today, it should be going back together tomorrow night.
Truck is great to just drive around, enjoyed it out in the sun yesterday but it really is quite boring without any kind of a stereo. I stopped in yesterday and picked up some 6" coax speakers and a small kicker amp that has bluetooth capabilities and auxiliary hookup. Not too sure I need a fancy head unit, I can just use the bluetooth or an auxiliary input.
I was going to put them in the kicks but they are just too big. I think I am going to do some 4" or 5" separates up front either in the stick speaker hole or build some kick panels to house them.
Here is what I started on last night. The plan is to build a nice little speaker grille for this and kind of hide it back in there and then I will wall off the back are and carpet everything to make it look neat and clean.

Also brakes should be getting ordered for the front as long as I can get them to fit. I thought that I had lots of clearance but 15" rotors are pushing the caliper out to where the spokes start to come back a bit. Looking at a full Wilwood setup with 15" cross drilled/slotted rotors and 6 piston calipers. Should fill up the wheels a lot better =)

Thanks...its actually kind of fun. Thinking about my next project and I guarantee it will be another cross breed.
Only had a little bit of time to work on it last night, still helping work on the Jeep 3.7 rebuild.
Got the grilles mounted up behind the panel, then the speaker to follow that. Rounded over the front edge of the panel where the speaker opening is to give it a little more smooth look.
Also built the other side last night.
Picked up some speaker box carpet as well and got them covered. I am not sold on the carpet not matching the floor carpet but they just about dissapear behind the seat and finish off what was a pretty unfinished area before.

You are a good egg Basher....I dont think I am going to make it down there, sounds like a great weekend though. Maybe the next one.
I ordered up front brakes last week for the truck. Wilwood Aero 6 6 piston radial mount calipers and 14" Two piece rotors with custom hats and rotors. They are drilled and vented like the rears and should match the rear stuff pretty close.
I ordered from Todd at TCE Brakes. He does a marauder setup, but has realized that there are tons and tons of these frontends going under hotrods. He was truly great to work with through this process. He had a ton of information and I had to keep up with him...he knows brakes. I should have them in about three weeks. He was waiting on rotors.
Super stoked about that.
I ended up ditching the 2 channel bluetooth amp and went with a retrosound head unit. It was just not going to work that well.
Picked up the radio on Friday and got it installed on saturday along with a single 6x9 in the dash. Its a dual voice coil dual tweeter setup so you can run both front channels to it....pretty nifty.
Radio is super slick, if you were not looking for it you would not know its not stock, but has two aux inputs, two USB inputs, bluetooth and tons of preouts.
Stock knobs went back on the aftermarket radio along with the stick bezel...Ill snap some pics of it finished up tomorrow.
Also finished up the rear behind the seat with some MDF panels all carpeted up. It looks finished behind the seat now.
But the real reason for my post.
I have been chasing a tranny fluid leak for, well since the truck first started running so last year around this time.
I had pulled the pan once when it would not go into reverse and found some plastic in the rear park pawl. I straightened up the flange and put on a new seal to try and seal it up with no real luck.
I have been under the truck looking at it and cleaning it trying to find where the damn thing is leaking, it was not the tranny pan from what I could tell, it looked like it was above that as I had fluid above there. Lots of suggestions to replace the internal harness but I was getting lo leaks there.
I picked up a tiny hint of fluid around the output VSS sensor so last week I picked one up.
Had a little time this morning and was dreading what I was going to find tackling this on the garage floor.
So I jacked up the truck and popped out the VSS sensor, well I took out the sensor part of it. It was obviously broken at some point before I got the transmission and I neglected to figure this out a while ago.
Here is what I took out.

Got both parts out, cleaned things up, put the new sender in and took the old girl for a spin. Checked it after I got back and it was dry as a bone. Checked it just now, still dry.
Good news all around, the plastic parts I found earlier in the pan, from this sensor. The leak fixed. and all back to normal.
Put a few miles on the truck and the stereo and both worked great!
Looking forward to dinking around with the front brakes when they get here and doing some more tuning with Ron.
He was not feeling well today, hope you feel better buddy.

Finally getting around to finishing up a few things underneath.
Ordered up an ADDCO sway bar and got it unboxed yesterday. I was pretty disspointed with the finish on the bar, it was chipped and scratched up before I even got the bubble wrap off of it. If you look at it wrong the paint just falls of. Seems like for what they charge they could have powdercoated it or something, it is just crappy paint, not even a primer on it or anything.
I guess I will need to pull it out after I get it all installed and get it powdercoated.....just what I was hoping to do with a finished part.
Looks like it will fit, I drilled the holes in the frame yesterday and got it close, I have to put a thin spacer underneath the bar to clear the flexible coupling on the turbo crossover pipe as it just touches the bar at ride height.
I picked up some 1/4" plate and 3/8" plate to build spacers out of today 1.5" wide. It should be about perfect.
Might get it all installed and buttoned up after work tonight.

Little update:
Gettting the truck ready for the Portland Roadster show coming up in just a few short weeks. I spent a good portion of the last weekend with the truck up on the lift just cleaning and detailing the underside of it. Looks like I have all the leaks fixed. Cleaned up a few electrical connections with some zip ties and just general tidying up. Things still look good under there.
Also got the sway bar all painted and the front suspension cleaned up. It actually cleans up nicely. Here are a few underbelly shots of the old girl.

Haha!!! I totally need to get under there and cut that **** off. Never been a convenient time to do it.....I guess I had it on the lift last week so no excuses.
Thanks for the props Dan.
Well the show rapidly approaches.
Front brakes went very well......I have no idea if they stop or not yet though.
Todd at TCE is the man. Everything bolted together very nicely and had no issues at all. Pedal feel is excellent so far.

Managed a little seat time this past weekend and got the brakes bedded in.
Took the truck to this local sunday night cruise in called Red Door Meet. It is mostly imports, some european cars and a few muscle cars. I have never been before.
The turnout was crazy. I was impressed as there were hundreds of cars there, all parked on either side of the road angled in. Everything from other muscle cars and pro touring rides to bikes, beemers and other cool cars.
Truck got a ton of compliments and looks from lots of people. All in all something I thought was not going to be that fantastic, turned out to be a really fun night.....I just love cars.
Now that the show is done, I want to get back on the tuning in the next month or so and get out to some events to see how the truck performs.
Ill keep updating this as time goes on.
Sean
Actually driving around.....at the store picking up groceries for the wife last night.

Great truck, sir. My favorite part is how you fixed that Ford motor problem that a lot of those Fords have.
Now that you have the fuel pump situation and transmission sorted out, have you taken it in for a real dyno tune?
Numbers, man, we want something quantifiable. You were shooting for 700rwhp, and you have a turbo bigger than a milk jug, so what's that thing putting down?

I was born and raised a Chevy guy but I love this truck. I also love the massive number of butt-hurt Chevy guys who are screaming on the Hot Rod Facebook page about your desecration of a Ford.
Great way to get the truck noticed!

Thank you guys for the great compliments, kind of funny that it was a flash in the pan for a few days, lots of hate, but also some great comments and compliments.
Got the truck out to a couple of good cruises the past few weekends. It was pretty fun, truck gets lots of looks when I pop the hood.
Ron came over today and we made another half dozen or so changes to the tune. It is running better and better each time. Peaked at 10lbs of boost, we got almost all of the knock out and are making progress on the boost side of things. Driveability stuff is pretty much nailed at this point. It is running in closed loop mode and very nicely as well.
Truck is fast, even just like this its fast. Makes boost at 2400 RPM and just keeps climbing. We were not able to make and great high rpm passes as it just gets too fast for city even freeway boost pulls.
Ron has learned a ton on this stuff and is doing such an excellent job. I really cannot thank him enough at this point
I do need to install a blow off valve though, we stopped tuning for today until I get one.
Thanks again Ron, truck is getting fun to drive now =)

Sean,
I love it, and I bleed Blue.
I think it's sad when another guy cant appreciate the time, effort, creativity, craftsmanship, and lets not forget safety features put into a build like this.
I look at it and it gives me ideas, it provokes my curiosity (how can I improve mine), it makes me smile, it makes me appreciate the sport more.
You did on hell of a build brother, I love it, and I bleed Blue!
Well Done!

I am a Chevy guy but c10's are outrageous when it comes to pricing. How much did this swap run you and would it be worth the savings to buy an f100. I am trying to do a budget build with an LS swap I am trying to stay in the 10,000 price range for a f100 short bed and a 5.3 swap and some minor things no turbo. What do you think I could expect to spend on this swap with motor and the extras to get it running. Also would you be avalible to pick your brain if I go this route.

First off, congratulations! Awesome build - been following along and enjoying every step.
Skimmed back through the thread looking for it but couldn't find it. What tank did you end up putting between the rear frame rails? I have an F100 myself that I would like to borrow some ideas from your build for.
Thanks!

Most likely used a 70 Mustang fuel tank. Fits nicely between the rails, slap a stealth fuel pump in it and be done.

it is a 70 mustang tank. It's in the first three pages of the thread
