Hi, my 1968 Camaro with LS1 & 6 speed will have been doing duty for 4 years shortly. I think an update is in order.

I purchased a 416 cubic inch LS3 making a little more than 650hp locally. It is running a Holley Hi Ram with 2 x 1000cfm throttle bodies.

My dilema revolves around which intake to run. Current LS1 has Fast setup on it.

There is always an ITB such as http://www.harrop.com.au/eng_detail.php?prod=99-AMFD11311

But I wanted to revert to a more retro look, so an option was the Edelbrock Victor Jr EFI manifold, with 4 barrel TB & air cleaner

Was surprised about advertised rpm of manifold, 3,500 - 7,500, which seems not ideal for mainly street use, but unable to find another intake with lower power band rev range.

Also is there an option for fuel rails except the Edelbrock ones, the brackets that hold the fuel rails look so cheap.

Looking for suggestions on throttle body, I'm inclined for the FAST 1375cfm, which I think should be adequate. http://www.fuelairspark.com/fas/4-barrel-throttle-body-high-flow-4150-flows-1375-cfm-includes-tps-iac-fastenershtml/

Also which injectors to use, will the 42lbs be good or do I need to go to a bigger one, maybe 60lb

Any suggestions happily received, been banging this one around my head for too long now :bang:

thanks

I did a similar build using a sleeved LS2 block (427") with LS7 heads, FAST 4-barrel TB, GM LS7 single plane intake, FAST 58 lb injectors, and a GM ECM. If you click on the link in my signature there is more information on the build. The port fuel injected single plane intake works well, and drives fine on the street. GM performance makes a single plane intake for LS3 and LS7 engines. The GM intakes are just a bit lower profile than the Victor Jr.

I was also looking for the retro look of the single plane versus using the LS style intake. Good luck with the build

Thanks, great read, and very similar in concept. Confirms 60lb Injector and Fast 1375cfm would be the way to go, thanks.

A quick Google didn't bring up the GMPP LS3 EFI Intake? Is it still available?

Did you have a clearance issue, I believe you are running 3" filter. I too have cowl hood.

How is clutch hanging in and which shifter did you go with on the T56 Magnum? Do you have a pic?

The part number for the GMPP LS3/L92 single plane intake with machined injector bosses is: 25534416

I am running a Moroso 1-1/4" drop filter base with a 3" tall x 14" diameter air filter with no clearance issues. I made a custom cowl induction set up to fit the LS engine. I went with the GM LS9 ZR1 twin disc clutch and it has great grip with absolutely no slip. The clutch has the OEM feel with no grabbing or lurching... very smooth. This is best clutch I've had so far (and i've tried a bunch)... it takes abuse with no issues and has a great feel.

The tranny is a T56 Magnum close ratio with the the stock Tremec shifter. I modified the shift lever so it was in the correct position to fit in the stock console. I did a build thread on here that shows the tranny and clutch install. Also I converted to a hydraulic operated clutch versus mechanical. Here is a link to my build thread her on Lat-G http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=39752. The tranny install starts around post 60.

Thanks, checked out build thread, is exactly what I'm planning, Happy to see can get console in original spot still.

Now researching clutches :). With the bell housing extension required for LS9 clutch, I assume that moves engine slightly forward. How does input shaft fit correctly if it has been moved further away from engine?

Roger,

I used the GM LS pilot bearing that presses into the large bore in the end of the crank. Using this pilot bearing, and the bell housing spacer... the input shaft on the T56 transmission fit perfect and went into the pilot bearing about 3/4".

Here is a picture of the LS pilot bearing pressed into the end of the crank.
