I just bought a unfinished project car. One day I was driving and saw an interesting car being worked on in a random garage 30 miles away from home. Turns out it was a 1973 Porsche 914, but no normal car.I have seen many V8 914 and owned a very nice one 2 years ago but this one was different.
The unfinished project was so so so much more then my old car and i stopped to chat with the owner. This guy is real talented, he built a sub-frame that was incredible. He incorporated a late model Porsche 911 /996 complete front and rear suspension into the car. The workmanship blew my mind ( me anyway). Here is a picture of the car and yes I bought it a few days later. The pictures don't show the real talent this guy has so only seeing it close up in person would tell the best story. I'm going to finish the project and drive the S##t out of this car !!! I'm sure I will come to you guys for advise, I sure hope its welcomed :y0!:

Welcome to Lat-G
Really looking forward to watching this one! I worked for a Porsche dealership in '76 right out of high school and I've been a Porsche fan ever since.

Yeah, i saw that in your original post that the pic was taken in the garage you found it in iirc...
But Sieg and i both drank the orange kool-aid and ride that particular brand....
but seriously, start a build thread, you'll get a lot of positive and knowledgeable feed back here.

Doing my body prep, I am happy to have this tool. :)

I'm moving slow trying not to repeat the mistakes I made on my first V8 914. I rushed the build and didn't get the chassis right. :confused59:

I decided to put an epoxy based anti-rust coat on the project. What a pain that is to do in your garage !!!! I used Por-15 a bit pricey but good stuff. :superhack: I'm going to install a rubberized coating next. Its a polyurethane product using a catalyst. This product will soften vibrations. Then ready to start installing the suspension and do the body work.

Nice work!! Is this going to be raced in a specific class or just for fun? I ask because you say you're adding that coat, it's not heavy? Sounds heavy, but awesome haha.
Going to be a fun ride!

Starting to reassemble the suspension. Media blasted and painted the aluminum 996 fitted parts. I need to track down some nuts and bolts for a few joints and reinstall the wheels so I can move the car around. Sort out the engine cam, trans clutch and shift linkage & wiring to name a few things. Be nice to have it running in 6 months or so. My CL65 with the infamous ABC suspension is getting a conversion of its own. If you guys don't know the ABC suspension is great but outrageously expensive to repair just parts could be over 15 thousand to rebuild the system. Crazy !!!! That's just shocks, pump and a few other parts like accumulators, valve blocks etc. That doesn't even address the dozen or so hoses and dozen or so sensors !!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to fit a coil over setup and sway bars so I don't have to worry about this crap anymore. The V12 TT (600 plus hp) is fantastic the trans is just a HD Chrysler unit.

Looks like the rack is going to line up well.
My front flairs need someone who knows what their doing. I can set the edge but the rest is up to my buddy in Washington State. I have to get the car running and drive it up there from CA. 1250 miles one way LOL

Wired things up, the relays are made to handle 100 amps each (@ 100% duty cycle). They say 400 amps for short bursts, sounds like welding to me. The relays were to be used on a full size transit bus but I was happy to take them home LOL.

Two resistors, to be used to regulate a lower cooling fan speed. I'm mounting them on the other side of the fan shroud so they can get some air while in action. These are off a 6000 lb. Mercedes S500. Made quite well and should hold up fine. I still need to wire them and another relay.

That is a new compressor line from Folger. I'm sure the better shops on this site carry them.

I really love this thing! An old friend in Portland used to sell the V-8 kits and do complete cars back in the late 70's. I always wanted to do one. Oh well add this to the list of 1000 plus I won't get around to .
Have you posted this on www.ls1tech.com in hybrids and conversions?

The conversion has a long history, I remember seeing one in 1975. This is my second V8 914,car. I also had a 1966 Corvair convertible with a mid engine 350 chev. & set up with a CROWN KIT, so I'm stuck with mid-engine & Chevrolet's !!!!!!!!!!
My first looked nice but didn't have the good bones this one does.
I do have a build thread on LS1tech.com :superhack:
This is the only photo I have of my V8 Corvair
