Hopefully this isn't really the "end" but darn... this happened at Watkins Glen during a recent SVRA event - word is a brake failure but I don't know it that is a fact.

My understanding is that this is the real deal.

Photographer took a hard hit but is recovering.

Full credit to the photographer as indicated on the pictures. I couldn't find a link to the originals.

ouch, I bet thats not the first time that car needed a new frame. Photag is very lucky. Hard to see danger sometimes.

Lucky guy!

Next time he might use a little more lens. :D

Looks like the car took the bit hit pretty well considering, luckily it was tires and armco barrier.

I've seen that car run at the Monterey Historics for years. I'm pretty confident its one of those cars that the cost of repair is far less than the cost of not repairing.

Hope the photographer is OK. Shows how dedicated the guys are. The guy about 20 feet up is completely in the zone even as the car goes through the fence. That's why these guys need spotters. Who cares about that "great shot" if you're dead or massively injured.

Am I the only one to notice the subliminal order of sympathy seems to be 1) Camaro 2) Photographer? Nice to see our priorities are still in order around here:poke:

Glad everyone's going to be ok it sounds like

When you're working a track event ---- one doesn't want to be in what's commonly called the "kill zone". They're pretty easy to identify... just project the cars most likely off track line. When I was allowed to shoot an Indy car race at Sonoma --- I had my camera on the K wall but I was on the INSIDE of the track at turn 11 NOT on the outside wall!!

Just a miracle this guy wasn't killed. WOW!

The car will be fixed -- and will feel no pain.

Friends of mine used to own a real '63 Grand Sport (#2)... they wrecked it "regularly"..... because they drove the snot out of it. No biggie... just take it back to the shed and get to work!

BINGO!

I've shot at a number of tracks with credentials especially Road America for Trans Am and Indy Cars. Always positioned myself inside the turns especially at turns 5 and 6.

GW giving us a fine photographic example of being just outside the kill zone.
