Hey guys, I'm gonna be painting my car this fall, and need some help! Any comments, suggestions, etc are appreciated! Here's my car the way it is now, the base color is nice, but someone has put about 10lbs of metallic flake-the gay kind, that looks like a rainbow trout in the sunlight. It's hiddeous! Really, it is.
Thanks for the help as always, this is a great site!

I voted for jet stream blue but that tone of red looks pretty good. Any consideration of shooting a similar dark red without the pixy dust?

Hadn't really thought about that one. I did see a new Silverado last week that looked black until you got up on it, then it was a dark burgundy color.

That with a semigloss black hood might be the way to go.

.... 10lbs of metallic flake-the gay kind,
Now that's funny, because I know what kind you're talking about. But anyway, I'm a huge fan of blue. I vote blue with 2 thumbs up. :excited: :excited:

Have you looked at Jet Stream blue in person? I just did a few spray outs of the color last week and it really has a green face (tone) to the color but then flips to the red side on the side tone. Plus most paint company use the speacltiy toners to make that color so it cost more. I thought I really liked it until I sprayed it out now not so much. I do like the color on your car now, many look better with out the bass boat flake??

That car is begging for Cyber Grey with black trim....
But of course --- it's your car and YOU have to be happy with it.
Tell ya what to do --- pay attention to your day dreams and dreaming at night -- what color does the car appear in? Grey or Blue? Your subconscious will be telling you what color you want the car to be. You just have to pay attention.
When you're at a car show - pay attention to what cars you're drawn to. If you walk over or turn your head every time you see something grey or maybe it's the blues --- well --- pay attention to that.

Good advice Greg! :welder:
Another option is Carter's Digital Paint Booth? See it and decide.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Greg-I've always envisioned it with cyber grey with black trim and rush forth wheels, but always been a fan of blue...lol. Where can I find Carter's paint booth? I did a search on here, but nothing came up.

It's on House of Colors web site, one car is $80 if I remember correctly?

I used to make my living helping people choose colors and fabrics - as a wholesaler in the furniture industry... and there are many ways a retailer needs to learn to help the consumer A) to make a choice and B) to not make a mistake....
One of the things I used to preach was -- if you follow your heart not your head, and you don't listen to what your friend wants -- then you might end up with a floral sofa -- and a piece of modern art on the wall - and a chinese rug.... and nobody but you could put those together..... but when you looked around your house -- you LOVED everything you see.

Pay attention to what Greg is telling you. His advice is spot on.
I had a hell of a time chosing a color for my project. In the end, I did exactly what Greg suggested. I chose the color that I always visualized the car to be in my daydreams/dreams.

I agree. I'm gonna follow my vision of what I want the car to be, hell I've had the same vision for my last 2 novas and this is the one that'll get done! Thanks for all the comments guys!

I voted for the gray with the black trim. But that's the color combo on my 66 Chevelle, so I'm partial to that! haha.
The only way I think the Hot Rod Black would be cool is if you put a big skull and cross bones on the hood like the DeathProof Nova! I would love to make a replica of that car.

That's the color of my chevelle. Dark cherry metallic it was on some of the late 90s cadillacs and gmc trucks. It's on the newer ones again now as well. Might as well be black!
