Any member's in the Black Hill's

Just wondering if there are member's on Lat-G that live in or near the Black Hill's of South Dakota.We are looking into Relocating up in the Spearfish S.D. area.Spring and Summer's are perfect.How are the winter's.

I don't live there, I do go up there every year for Kool Deadwood Nights Carshow, and have been there in the winter before, Winters are probably like Wyoming, cold, our hotrod season is pretty much mid may till oct, Spearfish is nice.

My family owns a motel in Spearfish, great little community. I'm not sure about the dead of winter but I've been there in May. What's that got to do with winter you ask? It went from sunny and 70's to 2 1/2' of snow, 2 days later, 70's again.

Great little college town with good growth in the last decade. Sturgis rally is fun and you're far enough to enjoy a few weeks of it. The super Walmart killed a lot of the smaller shops, damn shame. There're a few good fab shops in town, mainly 4x4 and motorcycles. Steak house on the hill and the Mexican joint on the other end of town are both really good.

I'd live there if my family didn't, wait what?

You know this Scott but I spent the first 19 years of my living in the state (Pierre - 3 hrs east of Spearfish). And as crazy cold as it gets in the winter, I kind of miss that excitement of the drastic changing once in awhile.

Here's the reality... you can have a handful of days each year in the 110+ range, and then at least that many in the sub-zero range. Makes life pretty interesting.

I know you're near KC now (lived there too) and the weather swings there aren't that much worse IMO. I don't miss that humidity one bit!

The Black Hills area is just amazing and underrated.

The Black Hills area is just amazing and underrated.Thank's Doug.We just spent a week up there.And it was Beauitful.We ran the AC during the day85 degrees/and opened the windows at night60 degrees.I love'd smelling the pine trees as we rode thur the back roads.Life seemed to be at slower pace for folks up there.:thumbsup: It gets colder than poop here also.

I live about 3 hours from the Black Hills. We go out there almost every year for our 2 week annual training in the guards. I've had friends that went to school in Spearfish. Great place to live if you like the outdoors. Skiing, snowmobiling, swimming, hunting, etc etc... There is a lot of specialty shops out there, not just cars but guns too. Just get ready for a couple cold days in the winter, due to the elevation they get much more snow than the rest of the state.

I lived in Rapid City from '86 to '05. I still have family there & usually go back for the Sturgis Rally or Christmas. I'm in the Northwest, now. There is a lot that I miss about the Black Hills, but I doubt that I would ever move back, only because my next move will most likely take me someplace with fewer seasons. However, I always enjoy going back to visit. It really is a great place to live.
