My brother, a long time drag racer, decided to try his hand at road racing. This is his project. Jag 120 with C-6 suspension and a 6-liter LS. It includes a Woodward rack, a late Camaro third member, and Drive Shaft Shop axles/CV joints. Weight looks to be less than 2700 lbs -- should be a rocket.

Did he build the frame or was it sourced somewhere ? Looks aftermarket as most home builders don't venture outside of the 2*3 tubing but either way it looks like a nice setup, but even on a 2700 lb car I recommend power steering (easy enough to convert that rack as long as you leave room).

Believe it or not, the frame is actually the Jag frame, heavily modified by Robert. He built the front cross-member and the rear kick-ups and IRS mounting provisions. As for the power steering, Robert informs me that I lied. The weight, with everything stacked on the car on scales, is closer to 2100#. Tony Woodward felt that would be light enough for manual steering.

Does he know what accessories he is going to be running. The slope on the front of the hood makes me think it is going to have to be almost 100% custom.

Custom brackets for an alternator, and perhaps a dry sump pump down the road. A little off subject, but he is pretty good at stuffing lots of Chevy muscle in tight spaces.

Like a 434 inch small block, injected on alcohol in an Anglia

That is just plane AWESOME!!
2,100 lbs, that thing is going to be a rocket!!

How wide are the tires in the back?
And the spacing between the rear hubs?
Is the late model Camaro IRS narrowed? If so it looks like you will need shortened half-shafts.

I'm asking because my next project is a Volvo P1800S.
I love to see what others are doing for ideas.

The third member is late Camaro (unmodified), but the suspension is all C6 Corvette with the cradle narrowed 13.5 inches. The rear spacing is 48 inches hub-to-hub, and the rear tires are 315's (12.4 in. wide). The axle shafts with CV joints were custom built by The Driveshaft Shop to use the Corvette outer hubs and the Camaro stub axles.

Thanks for that info Pappy, I thought that the a-arms didn't look like a Camaro. Great idea using the Vette IRS suspension and an inner third member from something else, as the Vette is an integrated transmission and 3rd member.

Did you consider using a quick change 3rd member? I've wondered how hard it would be to use this kind of set up instead of an OEM third member.

That is also my brother's (Robert). He is putting a stage 3 motor out of a Cobalt SS (supercharged) with an automatic, power windows, and air. Should be pretty cool. We found another Citreon in a wrecking yard in the Mohave desert with a perfect grill and hood -- the only thing the other Citreon was missing. I think I've told this story before, but we found the Citreon when we saw it in a B-grade (or worse) car movie (Duece of Spades) and we tracked it down on Google earth. Thanks. The Jag is also Robert's, and he is doing the work -- I just posted the updates for him. I'll get him to do updates on the Citroen -- it should be pretty cool. The 418 inch LS motor for the Jag should be done soon. I'm pretty tied up with my 56 Corvette road race car, especially since Ron Sutton "convinced" me to cut it all up again to make it a true high travel suspension car. You wouldn't believe how much room it takes to turn 12 1/2 inch tires with 5+ inches of suspension travel -- out came the chain saw!

The computer is a FAST EZ EFI. it all came in the package from Inglese. By the way, Greg (Weld), when setting up the airflow is there a difference between the old mechanical set-up and EFI on a computer?

Pappy

Well --- the key is to have all the air valves sync'd up - using the manometer. But of course - you have to get the motor running.... via the handheld programmer of the EZ EFI.... which is pretty dang obvious when doing the set up windows... You just answer the questions - Engine cubes - injector size - Fuel pressure etc... it walks you thru the steps. Then --- when you fire up for the first time -- and the engine comes up to temp (over 140*) the computer will start to alter the fuel tables. Once you have a decent idle --- you'll want to go and measure each air valves flow with the manometer and adjust accordingly.

The thing that people do with an eight stack is to look at all the adjustment "screws" and start to fiddle with them setting idle RPMS or whatever.... and not realize that the entire system (all 8) are then being messed with!

If you don't disconnect the cross linkage - whatever you adjust on one side is messing with the other side.

The beauty of the Inglese set up is that each butterfly in each air valve is easy to adjust on the butterfly linkage (very small set screw and collar on the shaft) - if the pair is out of sync (two valves per pair).

You've got to get all of them flowing within 1 of each other.... then when you hook up the cross linkage -- double check them all and if anything - it's usually one side is now higher or lower than the other side. This can then be adjusted by turning the cross link shaft whichever way it needs to go....

Now you're ready to go for a drive -- and the key there is to try to hold a "load" /"RPM" and let the computer settle on the A:F at that spot - then increase the load/rpm to another place and let it settle in there -- and so on. It takes the computer a minute to settle in using the O2 sensor. Once you get some 'gross' adjustments in - it just gets smoother and smoother... as you drive. It's a pretty slick little setup. But you have to have the MECHANICAL part sorted out - and then the computer can do it's thing.

Smoke here is a little better this evening... but it's been VERY smokey all week. We just got back from Rafting and Kayaking The Middle Fork of the Salmon River... and went down the river with burning logs that had slid down the steep hill sides and right into the river... With 3000' canyon walls - the smoke was trapped in this pristine area - and it was pretty bad.

My buddy and his wife took their kid off to college - and on their return flight from Denver - the pilot aborted the landing here (Sun Valley, Idaho) because he couldn't see the runway.... they turned around and went back to Denver. OUCH.

Have to say - Oregon and Washington have it just as bad, if not worse.

Amazing build!

You should apply to show it at the Quail in 2021 if you can get out to Pebble Beach for a week, and park it next to the Koenigseggs, Bugattis, McLaren F1s, etc.

They love builds like yours :)

Most of Car Week in Pebble is full of stodgy old white guys that turn up their noses at anything modded.

But the Quail is the best event of the week where anything fun, fast, original, or esoteric is welcome - homebrewed or not.

(Other than the historic races at Laguna Seca, of course.)
