NGK Spark plugs

I have always bought my plugs from NGK, because believe they are the best. Or atleast shares the 1st Place with whatever other brand is up there. :)

I have always bought plugs from USA, because they are insanely overpriced here in Norway, but now NGK has a New policy to not send out of US anymore, so I think I must change brand.

If you think I am a cheap dude, you may be somewhat correct.. He..He.. :P

But here is two price examples of normal plugs. USA vs Norway

A regular standard one:
UR5 3$USD = 24$ for 8# in USA 17$us each = 136$ for 8# in Norway

And now a Iridium one, but just a regular one:
TR55IX 9$USD = 72$ for 8# in USA 74$USD each = 592$USD for eight in Norway!!! :lostmarbles:

592 Dollars for 8 plugs? That is somewhat pricey in my eyes, it is not just plugs that are overpriced here, but this is just ridiculous!

That is why I always buy my plugs from Your country, because I cant afford to by them here, especially if you need 8 of them.

But now it seems that I must change brand (maybe), is there anyone brand that People recommend?

I like Champion, some of the reason is because they are a smaller Company (Atleast was before????) and they do make plugs for Formula 1 and stuff, so they probably know how to make Things. And I have never had any problem With them, but that NGK quality feels good when you see and touch them for some reason. :)

All the other probably also know how to make Things, they could just be cheap on the material and Production, not have "passion for plugs" maybe He..He.. :D I dont know..

I find spark plugs are like oil & beer. Every guy has his own preference & he'll spend hours telling you why his oil, beer or spark plug is "the best". :confused18:

We have dyno tested & raced everything from split prong, 1-prong, 2-prong, 4-prong, no prong ... from $1.99 plugs to the $18 Formula 1 plugs from Brisk ...

I'm not saying there are not differences, nor am I saying the spark plugs don't matter. Just the opposite, the plug selection of tip style, heat range, gap & indexing are key to optimum power. But a lot of brands make good plugs ... just like there are many good oils & beers out there. :)

If we had found a brand or style that was superior ... we would have locked onto it. But, in all of our years of dyno testing & racing I have found NGK's & Autolites are as good as any other brand at building power. Not better ... just as good. The bonus is NGK & Autolite plugs ... are available almost everywhere, come in wide range of heat ranges for each application & are often very affordable.

So NGK & Autolite are my first two choices, but we've had good success with Denso, Champion, Bosch, Motorcraft & AC Delco.

If you're going to run a radio or data acquisition, you will need resistor spark plugs, which can make it harder to find in the really cold ranges.

That was a good answer, and I agree. And I dont think there is any Power difference between brands, as long as you compare Apples to apples.

The most important is probably the right plug for the right Application, and I would Guess if someone "only had problems" With say Champion, it is probably not the plugs fault, but the installer, who installed the wrong heat range or too big gaps in low performance ignition or something else weird. To be honest I have never had any problems With any plugs, except if I have not checked the gap before putting them in, when they have been dropped on the floor before I got them.. (lazy installer problem again :D) I have learned that, and ALWAYS check gaps.

And I like NGK because it easy to understand their numbers and letters, because that is what im used to. And the gap is always spot on if they are ordered for the right motor. And they make all kind of variations of plugs.

Here in Europe they sell some other brands, they probably dont sell in the US, some very cheap variants of Eyquem and others. And I feel there is a difference in the quality of the Product. But it could only be prejudice from me, or that they make some extra cheap junk stuff for some markets, I have had several cars at work that run poor With these "weird" brands.. Who knows.. And ignition systems is sometimes weak on some types of vehicles too.

But what I dont like is the price here in Norway, it is not just on NGK, it is on all the other brands too. If 8 costs the same or even less in the US than 1 plug does in Norway there is something really wrong..

Where have you been getting your spark plugs in America?

If you can cross reference your current NGK plug to a Denso or Autolite, that would be my first choice.

I have usually bought them from Summit, unless there is something special, and I try to make either very small packages or "very big", to make the freight reasonable.

There is no reason to pay much in shipping for just small stuff. Then it gets more expensive instead He..He.. :D

Sometimes I use my dad, since he often orders from Lane Automotive/Motor State, then I just add some parts to his orders.

They seem like a nice Company, especially if you are into more racing stuff.

I am not though, so regular shops have most of my needs.
