Hi Guys, Its been a long time since I've posted. I wanted to share with everyone what we've been doing with one of our projects. I call it Maximus its a 1968 charger that we are building to show off Nelson Supercars and what we are capable of doing with metal. We are working very hard for this to be in the DynoMax's booth at SEMA in bare metal this year. I hope you enjoy the progress photos, its been really fun building this.

Okay ,We built a frame table for the Charger just because we knew this thing was going to get filleted up. Then we cut the quarters off rough so when it went to blast it would get everything. We sent it out to Freddy at A&M and had it blasted. And started cutting out the cancer.

Okay ,so we got it on the frame table and started basically cutting the car down to nothing. We decided the floors weren't worth saving so we found a really awesome floor section in the junkyard, and cut it out of the car and drilled all the spot welds out then blasted and fit it into the car. I really wanted a stock floor piece because they fit much nicer and at this time in the project we didn't no we were going to go so hog wild on the car. We then just kept cutting because nothing looked good and I did not want to fix some rust and know there was more. So here are some shots.

Just a bunch more rust and a bunch more cutting I really bit off a metal restoration on this one.Pretty cool you can take a car down so far and bring it back better than new

So while everything was cut out and easy to get to we decided to tie in the chassis with these custom frame connectors.Whats neat about doing it this way is they clear the floor.

I do that a lot but I don't think we are going to on this car we usually will punch die a piece and weld the pillar and cage together but its a bit to hard core looking for the theme were going for on the inside

Heres the play by play on the twin tanks for the Octane on demand system we are incorporating in the car.One 91 octane cell and one 116 octane cell the computer will run on the 91 octane cell until the car reaches boost at 130 kpa I start to transition the second to come on injecting 50 percent race gas mixing with 50 percent 91 octane. So we will be able to run a much higher boost level in the 20 pound range but still run 91 octane for just cruising around town.

Well here is some shots of us putting the cage bars threw the package tray into the trunk.and filling in the speaker holes because to be legal to go 8.5 in the quarter you need a sealed firewall and just some of our insanity making everything fit tight and metal finishing it.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about ! On my '67 Mustang there is a natural flat spot on the top surface of the door so it was a little more straightforward then what your guys did - in no way comparing my home built junk to your shop work though.

Plenty of fab pics is what we want ! No need to worry about posting too much.
You'd be surprised what helps us learn - even looking at the size and spacing of the weld beads, the spacing of the gaps, the length of the HAZ on the TIG welds, WHere and how you cut something, its all interesting.

We ended up taking off the rear section making a make shift jig and tacking everything together so we could really get to it all .It really is better than I thought we would end up with I'm very proud of all involved with this build of what it is as of today. But once you get involved and are looking at all the lines there is still so much more that could be done but this is good enough for myself and the owner.I really was tempted to keep pounding away and polish the body but this isn't a round cobra and its way way harder and costly to do because everything is so sharp
So heres the back fenders ill reveal it with.

Okay im going to give the metal work a break and show you what we did with the rear frame rails. We are running a 31 by 18 wide 20 in the rear so to get the car low the rear end has to be stuffed way up so the rear end actually hits the factory frame rail at ride height low we had to chop the frame rails out and water jet up some new ones here is the process in how we went about it

Heres a few more of the rear suspension for the weekend,Excuse the nasty hardware and spacers in some of the photos haha.Basically whats neat to point out is the threaded block that we welded in the chassis to adjust instant center on the rear suspension we mapped out all five points and added that which will help us tune the suspension a bit even though its a triangulated four link.We also water jet all the suspension components from scratch . Please excuse my grammar it sucks.

Looks nice Tom, question how come you did just build a complete chassis? With all the power this one will have seems like an easy call, just wondering?

Hi Rick when we started we bought a Xv front and rear suspension and were putting a 345 35 19 in the back we installed it and the owner thought its just not enough tire in the rear which I actually agreed. So then became the sickness we all have here well lets modify it but we were to far in at that point to throw away other things we bought and did.But also for me It was exciting to create it from scratch and give a one off uniqueness and put my stamp on it.

Some neat washers we made to bolt up the subframe we also welded in solid threaded insert in the frame so you would not see the thru bolt from the top side of the frame.

Great build! Nice updates also.
Will you be doing any mods to the XV frame or shock mount to get a lower ride height? The XVs are known for a little higher than normal ride height. I think Southern Rods had to modify theirs on both their Cuda And Coronet builds IIRC. Just wondering since I've considered theirs prior but was always held up by this.

Great work guys! Glad to see you becoming an active builder on this site.

Hi Wes
That's very interesting we ran into the same problem but found a very easy solution Lg motorsports sells a very nice forged drop spindle for the vette and this brought us to the correct ride height without bump or steering hitting anything. The spindle is about 1000 dollars but was the right choice for us.

Okay in these pics I show you the process we went about cutting the floor and flanging it for the new transmission tunnel with the big tires and ride height we wanted the drive shaft was way up there so we needed to construct a entire new tunnel. We used our Pullmax to tip all the flanges and it made it really pretty neat I think. Its all very rough still but coming into shape

Thanks Guys
Here is some more of the fab work we are doing .On a Turbo Build like this with a 572 cubic in tt engine there is a lot of heat to get rid of.So we decided the stock core support was no good and to move the rad forward to make room for everything up front also in the past we used to put the intercooler in front of the radiator but it was to much for the fans to pull threw all the ac condenser, thick rad and intercooler or coolers .Then we switched to the water to air type and put them behind the radiator but found they hurt airflow to the fans trying to get by them. So are config now is ac condenser intercooler heat exchanger and we put air to waters in the fender wells. It gives the best air flow .For idling in traffic. So heres the process of incorporating a new custom core support /radiator holder /heat exchanger mount /ac condenser mount

Okay ton of work of the series of these pictures
Here's some shots of the process of widening the tail and bumper we wanted the lights to be inn the same position they were originally so we added to the center. And filled the bumper bolts added studs so they mount from the back side then chopped the heck out of two bumpers two get one

We decided we did not like the way the factory bolt on tail pieces looked so we decided to make our own from scratch and graft them into the quarters so they are one piece for a really slick look

I hope it is that I am just missing something from the pictures that have been posted. My question is about the design of the arb setup on the car. I don't know if I am just missing the concept of it when it is complete or not, but could you post some completed pictures of it as I am not seeing how the design will come together. Thanks.

I ran into the Nelson crew and watched them pull the cover.. From what I was told it was a hard push.. I think Tom said that he only had 3 hours of sleep in the last 36 but some of the crew hadn't had even that.. amazing work.. it was a pleasure meeting all you guys.

having shared the booth with these guys at Dynomax- His crew was beat Tuesday morning. BUT - they got it there and it drew a crowd all week.

Tom is a super nice guy willing to share some ideas with us. Great job guys

He recently posted this on his Facebook page of Maximus on the set of the new Fast and Furious movie. I talked with Tom and the painter a few months ago and they were talking about painting it black in the near future, but when exactly neither of them mentioned.
