Welcome! Looks like you're off to a good start. Don't know how long you have been on this site lurking but if you have not seen it, perhaps this will give you some inspiration.
Probably the baddest 1969 firebird ever built!

Welcome I have to disagree with you on the compromise statement. I think you got the more refined and stylish GM first gen. My suggested edit is above.:D
It looks like you've jumped right in.
What about the drivetrain? Are you keeping the Poncho power? 4,5 or 6 speed or auto?

Floor is now assembled, not welded yet because I want more body panel to verify alignement. Bolted with metal screw because the cleco cant hold the stress of the differents arch of the trunk floor and frame rail(taiwan quality).
I will order structure panel next week, thank for support.

And you say its your first time messing with cars????!!!!!!!!
Jee...
My first tought was, "you know...you could easily have had that 69 Camaro finally", since you we're going to buld it from scratch lol!! And eh.....at that, its not even too late you know!
No but....seriously, i'm completely knocked out! From the beginning, reading your tread, i wasnt expecting anything close to this..at all!!! I mean, the original car looked kinda solid too so i got the impression you were going to build it.... WRONG!!!! Lol!!!!
I was also very glad to find out that we're very close neighbours! I dont know too many guys that share the same level of passion for that kind of work, let alone close to me and i dont even mention as much as i do so its pretty cool, hope we get to meet each other sometime.
Hey, beeing so close, next time you run out of gas or just need a hand, let me know, i'd gladly help out! (... As it'd get me to seeing that beast in person lol!!!) And im only like 10 minutes from you sooooo.... Sometimes we need another set of hands...
Post some more when you progress...i'm watching this one come alive!
Congrats on jumping into this with both feet! It takes some serious courage to do what you are doing, times 100 in a situation where you have no experience!!!
Woohoooo!!!!!:wow:

Man....
Looking carefully at your pics, it makes me think twice about the way i should attack my 67. It needs a full floor and i was going to just patch the rear section but was also thinking about replacing the rear floor with a one piece unit as its almost easier, but the way i was thinking was to do one at a time to keep the structure straight and just remove and replace one piece at a time like i always do.... But it almost looks easier and FASTER. To just cut the whole ass end out (full 1/4 s, cabin floor, rear floor, the top, as i need a top panel too and the tail section) and just build a new one!!! You deal with all new steel, just need to fit them and voila!!! Well....thats what you make it look like anyway!!!
Vince, i like your style... An Evil Race Twin.... Thats my style!!!!!
Are you workin on the car this week end StreetBird?

to cold to work on the car -30celcius, I heat the garage with a 4800 and I use the same plug to run the compressor and the welder, this summer I will change the electrical panel to an appropriate one.

Geeze, and I was complaining of 8 degrees cel here.
Stay warm and work on that thing when it warms up a bit. Don't let the cold affect the build.

Sit back the jig to ground but its warped.
So I screwed it to the garage floor to make it straith.
I reinstalled the structure and quarter to realign.
I didnt receive driver side quarter so I did it on pass side only and the structure is ready to weld on the floor pan.

Your welds look pretty darn good to me:thumbsup:
You are doing an amazing job on your build. Keep it up:thumbsup:
I noticed something though. One of the reasons why DSE leaves the end of their subframe connectors open for you to weld, is you may have to cut the length of them to properly fit to the subframe itself. I was wondering if you had fitted the subframe to make sure there's no interference between the connector and the subframe?

Measuring from the center hole of the rear mount on the subframe is an aspect I never considered:sieg:

Really good work...lots of people would get into this half way thru the tear down and run. Good to see someone tenacious enough to stare that much rust in the face and not even see it as an issue because they see the finished product. It looks like you definitely can do it. Got to love the birds. Hope you go with pontiac drive train....I regret not doing that.

I definitely not go with the poncho drivetrain, to expensive to make the power I want and way too heavy.
On a other side I saw your bird tread and I love the rear bumper, I will probably do the same on mine if it not bother you but my skill with fabrication is not good as yours so im not sure about the result

Didnt have any serious offers so I remove the add.
I dont need money but I dont have to put on the car for now so I will sell if I got a reasonnable offer but I dont think it will happen.
It just will be longer to finish it, but I have a lot to do before spend big money.
I want to finish the squeleton this summer and epoxy prime it, so the panels wont rust by the time.

I had stopped watching a bit since you had it for sale. MAN! Its taking shape!!
If you dont have to sell it and its really the car of your dream, dont sell it cause you dont have the money 'now' as much as youd like. Life is like that for everyone unless your a Millionnaire, the only difference will be when you are done with the project, then, life will still be the same for everyone as it we're before, with its better and lesser moments..... Except you will have your. Bad Ass ride by yourself to keep company and change your mind on spirited driving outings to remember you that you hung it out till the end!
Seriously, i regret a few flips i did for money, if i can give you one bit of advice its to keep working till its done. You are too far into it to quit now. KEEP the wheel under the car if it motivates you as it sure looks killer like that! I could almost hear it run lol!!!!
Those are tight gaps on the doors man,
Nice job!

I keep the idee from roadster shop project the thruth. I dont have the skills to built a custom bumper so I will mod a similar design bumper. Oh, and i didnt notice that we see two time consumers

That's going to look good on there. Are you planning to weld the bolts to the inside so you have a smooth bumper?

Well, it's your car.... Just remember that by converting to a more common camaro front end your car will become less unique. Styling preferences aside a Firebird is much less common than a camaro and that alone will help it stand out at an event, and then there is all the custom modifications you're doing.
And then there's the cost associated with it (the sheet metal, brackets, fasteners, light fixtures, etc) and time. It'll add to your project and be that much longer before you drive it. there is some wisdom with sticking to the plan.

I just ran across your build. Very nice work so far. I feel you on changing the front end to a camaro. I too was looking for a camaro but ended up with a 67 firebird. I'm going to modify my front end to be a cross between camaro and firebird. I can't wait to see your car continue to come together!

Woah there buddy!!!!!
How did i miss out on this story about the front end swap!!?? I didnt get the updates until the last post before mine!!
And i see its already bought and on!!!??
Are you seriously going to HALF ASS IT!!??? Like the others... I get it, but if your just going to drop a front end on it, not do the dash, the tail panel, and correct the 1/4's.... Im not with you on this one. Sorry.
Just think about what YOU do when at a show and you see a car like your about to build.... You do a double take, shake your head and move on thinking.... "That guy didnt have the money to build a Camaro so he built a Firebird...."
Im sorry, but you know im right. And im also with the others.... You CHOSE a Firebird for its Uniqueness, and now your bastardizing it!!
I mean, yeah its your car.... Just, dont you like it??
Sorry man, i just think this is a "think it throughly" thing. I like the fact Vince put YOUR drawing back in your face. ... 'Say's a lot.
Funny i hear from you too, i got your number out Sunday and wanted to call but we went to the hospital instead.... Long story.
Anyway, keep it up and do what you feel is right!! (Of course!) And also, sure i understand the other side too.... Beeing a Camaro guy this is the easy part!! But the value (project spirit wise and financially) of all youve done trumps the "want" factor for me in this case. I could not understand having done all this and doing it only to half its worth. Your not going to have a Camaro... Nor a Firebird!!!
At least if you decide to do it all the way .... We could get it licenced as a Camaro...
Ok.... :topic: But....:bitchslap: Im not convinced.
Just so you know!!
Take care buddy,
AND I WILL DROP BY (are you free some time this w-e?... Im pulling the body off the 55 on friday but good sat and sun, let me know!!) but NOT with the Camaro... I know youll want to compare measurements LOL!!!!!! ...kidding....
Let me know,
M.

I understand your point Mario but I like the Firebird tail light and to me its the same car. People in quebec already piss on pro touring car so they will hate anyway.
Im not a show guy, im more horrified to see ugly gaps on cars in the expos than a mixed car and this is what we see here.

Hey everyone,
As sad as this is gonna sound. The project is now officially on ice...for good.
A lot of parts have made their way onto it since last updates tough....(it now is a almost complete, 100% new panel car) with the whole front end and latch system, rad support etc. ----No GM panels on this car lol!!----
Its beeing put together as a performance "roller" with great suspension parts and to be offered for sale by end of week.
I also have a LOT of parts available and also a multitude of ways it could be sold. (From a empty shell to complete driving)
Car is now shelled as a COMPLETE '69 Camaro now but, beeing 100% new has no title, (yes, bill of sale will be offered and also about an inch and a half thick of EVERY bill that went into this build...) so at this point, its to be considered as a Dynacorn body, altough, a much tighter one, and one thats ALREADY DSE mini tubbed, DSE Frame connectored, and also frame notched and metal finished.
A LOT of work was put to make this car as nice as possible and you can see it from looking at the past pages.
Im good friends with Streetbird and will sadly be taking care of the sale. Im making this public and official as to make sure there are no questionning or missunderstandings. Any and all questions should as such, be directed to me. I am putting all the extra parts and time in the project to help finish the car to a selleable point and will make sure if it sell's that everything goes well and is done in a timely manner.
I will put an official add in the for sale section but wanted to let you guys know, also so it would pull a bit of traffic for the sale.
A lot of you may know me already from past projects, altough i have not been on here a lot lately (been drag racing!) but i also have sold quite a bit of hard core parts and have solid references.
This is a GREAT and EXTREMELY solid project for the perfect start Camaro your envisionning!!! Dont miss out on your chance to get an screaming deal!!
Ad to come by end of week with up to date pictures.
Meanwhile, please pm me for any details.
Thanks guy's,
Lead.
(Mario)
