Battery cable size?

I notice Detroit speed sells cable made by quickcar, and it is 2 awg, It seems a lot of guys when moving the battery to the trunk are using 1awg or 2/0 What is the difference in size between the awg wire and the 1/0 or 2/0.

Sizes go from (example #8AWG -#1AWG, small to large then the next larger size is 1/0 AWG to 2/0AWG and so on. I purchased my wire from Cable Yard and it is called Radiflex, it is awesome wire,very flexible. I ordered 1/0 but they were out and I went with 2/0 . 1awg and 1/0 are the same size. You can google stranded wire ampacity chart and you will see what size you need for a given total amp load. For most applications 2awg or 2/0 will be plenty. The exception would be typically for high power stereo systems. Hope that helps.
Not to step on your toes but #1 is smaller than 1/0 , O.D. of #1 is .58 ,1/0 is .62.

No problem, I thought that was the case. I try not to answer these questions without being certain. So I did what I suggested and googled it to make sure. Turns out I read the chart wrong. :hairpullout: I got rid of that rubbish so I don't confuse anyone! :underchair:

Always two things in wiring to remember ---- the DISTANCE measured is TWICE the one way measurement.... since electricity makes a "round trip".


Bigger is always better than smaller....


Third thing of the two....


MORE STRANDS of wire are better -- more flexible -- and electricity travels the outside of the strands so the more surface area the better...
