View Full Version : ALTER EGO ZR1 63 Split Window Corvette

This will document the build of the 1963 corvette split window coupe restomod called ALTER EGO.
I have taken my ideas along with the classic lines of the original 63 corvette and have combine them into a unique restomod concept. Working with Mike Hacker of Outcast Precision Muscle Car we have refined those ideas into what we hope will be a one of a kind corvette. Mike will take our concept utilizing our combined ideas and build this one of a kind dream vette. (At times he will have to deal with me helping in the build!!) We will utilize Mike Stockdale's SRIII Motorsports frame with front and rear C6 Corvette suspension, Z06 brakes, coilovers and we will add Shaun Carter's SMC Performance LS9 built 700hp engine. All this will be done in Mike's home garage.

This is a picture of how I purchased it from last owner.
Vette sat since 87.

Depends on the piece and how bad it was to start out.
Front Bumpers had to send out to be chromed along with a trim piece around upper window for them to work on taking out the bends/dents and wave in it.

Found out that the entire right rear was hit and fiberglass repaired previously. Vette must have been hit hard from door back on that side. Repairs look good but will grind out and make sure so that no issues show up after paint and we say we should have done it. At least this way we know it is done right.

Mike Stockdale of SRIII Motorsports does an amazing job with custom frames.
I met with him in New Lenox IL to discuss what I was building and this is what he came up with. It will accept all c6 corvette suspension, coil overs on all four corners and I will be adding the corvette Z06 brakes and rotors.
That should be able to stop that LS9!!

Wow...nice project! Are those Stainless Works side pipes available, or was that a one off piece? Will they work with the factory frame?

Nice work Dave! Brings back memories of my build. Mike at SRIII does excellent work. The side pipes are nice too, I thought long and hard about going that route, but stuck with rear exit.

Who did the gas tank for you? I need to upgrade mine as I get fuel starvation from slosh below half a tank or less when cornering hard.

Cheers,

Jim

They are available. When I had SRIII make frame I had him modify so that we could use side exhaust.

Not sure if they will clear stock frame.

Talk to Mike Stockdale about the gas tank.
We will have to see how it all works out.

It is using C6 Corvette Front drive accessories (alternator, PS pump, bracket, tensioner, idler and fasteners)

I will look for some other photos and post if I have.
