Chevelle B-pillar covers?

Ok guys, 2 questions here...
What is the purpose of the tar paper like pieces that cover the inside of the b-pillars, of my Chevelle, that go between the headliner and the package tray?

Where do you find replacements for these pieces? Mine are toast.

I'm assuming you're referring to the C pillar if you're talking about the headliner and package tray area.

To my knowledge there is no tar paper like you're referring to. The sail panel attaches straight to that c-pillar. There is a jute type padding that goes under the package tray though. There is also that same jute style padding that goes on the bottom side of the roof skin under the headliner.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Sounds like you could use dynamat if you wanted to replace the tar paper stuff.

Youre talking about sail panels (a the C Pillar as mentioned by Tim)

You can buy them from OPGI, Bobs Chevelle, ect or search for them on ebay as well.

They should be covered in headliner material. There isnt usually anything underneath them but I threw some dynamat back there just because. It also gave me a raised surface to attach the velcro I used to hold the sail panel on. Originally there were clips holding those panels on - but they break most of the time. A suitable alternative is 3M HD velcro.

Ok, I've always referred to the C pillar on a coupe as a B pillar, so yes I'm referring to the C pillar. My sail panels are new, and look great. What I'm talking about is the material that is behind the sail panel. It's made from this material that looks and feels like a very thick tar paper. It has the factory strip of foam attached to it, that helps the sail panel fit correctly to the package tray. I've seen this on both my chevelle's, and I was wondering if its simply a sound deadener, or actually has a purpose. If you guys are not putting it in, then I won't worry about it. I was cleaning out my shop, and these pieces are so brittle from age, they are crumbling, so I was gonna toss them out. Nothing that dynamat can't take care of!

Scott, I know what paper you are talking about. And yes guys, it's is, or was for a lack of better terms, was a black, tar paper like material that was behind those sail panels. It was on my Chevelle as well. My opinion Scott, which doesn't count for much :headscratch:, was it was some sort of sound deadner back in the 70's. That was top notch technology back then. It would probably be equivalent to all the extra thick tar that's on all the sound deadener made today. I would assume you can't find it like that anymore Scott. Me personally, I'm gonna throw some Dynamat up there on mine and be thru with it. Oh, and when you said, "B pillar"...I was like he doesn't have a 4-door Chevelle. :buttkick:
