A police dog pays respects to a fallen police officer he worked closely with on duty. Kentucky K9 officer, Jason Ellis, was killed during an ambush. The officer's canine partner -- a German Shepherd named Figo -- paid his respects by holding a vigil beside his casket.
Figo worked with Ellis to find illegal drugs and substances.
Ohmidog (http://www.ohmidog.com/2013/06/03/k-9-partner-among-those-paying-last-respects-to-slain-kentucky-police-officer/) reports June 3 that the officer who was with the Bardstown Police Department in Kentucky, was shot multiple times and killed when he stopped to remove some debris from the road.
About 12,000 people were in attendance at the fallen officer's funeral at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown last Thursday. Many officers came from out of town to pay their respects. Several were K9 officers accompanied with their service dogs.
When a dog pays his respects in such a way, that the smell of his deceased partner was probably a way of obtaining closure, one Reddit user claimed.
Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin said Ellis “paid the ultimate sacrifice doing what he loved: being a police officer.”
As the picture clearly shows, the police dog pays his respects with genuine, heartfelt feeling. It's proof positive that the bond he shared with Jason Ellis was beyond measure.
Figo is now retired and living with Ellis' family.
