Ed,

Thank you for posting the results up so quickly!

This event was very well run by the Goodguys Autocross staff. This must have been a record for Pleasanton for the number of runs. Having a car ready to go as soon as the car on course finished was awesome. Chad did a great job with his announcing. It was great seeing our hard core Goodguys Autocross group show up, especially those that travelled from down south. Just about everything went perfect except for the small autocross course I have ever seen!

While I can't speak for everyone in attendance, I can speak for myself and those that I hung out with and say that we were all very disappointed in the amount of space the Autocross was given. Not only were the drivers participating in the Autocross disappointed, many people that were just spectating were disapointed. Everyone I spoke with that attened the show said it was the worst Goodguys Autocross they have every seen, due to the size of the track. Viewing was great with the grand stands and paitio area by the Young California building, but the product was not good.

I understand that the Alameda County Fairgrounds has limited space and our other site is falling apart. I see around the country some of the other locations are lucky to have large lots to play with. Is there anything that can be done at Pleasanton? Can the other lot be improved? With new pavement and trees removed, that site could be one of the best in the country for all aspects of the autocross.

I wish I did not need to say these negative things about a great idea of autocross at the Goodguys. I wished for many years prior to Goodguys getting into autocrossing that someone would combine a show and autocross. I commend Goodguys for doing it. The autocross is bringing a huge amount of energy to the shows that was lacking. The attendence and sponsorship must be gaining due to the boost from the autocross. Now that Goodguys has it, let's make it the best it can be.

Since I'm an autocross rookie, I dont have anything to compare it to except Delmar. My biggest complaint besides it being extremely small, was the drainage dip right in the middle of the course and having to cross that 4 times, especially when your hard on the brakes at the finish. Other than that, it was a hell of a lot more fun than being parked on the grass. That car is simply a blast to drive!

I attended the first Pleasanton GG Autocross event in March, and liked the track & am building a car to compete. Then attended this last weekend and couldn't believe there was a drainage ditch crossing through the track.

It upset the cars on track, and the competitors in the pits. I too would ask if it can be moved back or somewhere else.

Needles to say I had a great weekend as I took my first ever autocross win in my falcon (really the first time I was even competitive). The coarse was very challenging as the back corner was extremely tight (turn 4?). Having a dip in the middle favored the softer sprung street cars and the overall lack of grip eliminated any horsepower advantages. I have maybe 275hp and never used full throttle.

The event was well run and a car left about every 45 seconds. This easily doubled if not tripled the amount of runs. Chad as always keeps it entertaining with his great announcing. It was also great having a few shady spots in the pits, but they filled up by about 7:00AM.

The thing that surprised me was not a single street rod guy had the guts to drive his car around the track.

A lot of people where wondering where I came from. I have been at every Pleasanton event in 2012 and 2013 and working on my car and my driving: Evolution AutoX school, multiple SCCA AutoX events, hours of driving at Umigo racing go karts as well as studying Autocross racing books and reviewing my runs and other fast runs on youtube to see where I lost time.

Overall, I would say the Good Guys Autocross is great. It really breathed some life into the car show and made it exciting again.

Guys, and Gals,
Thanks for your messages about the AutoCross this past weekend.

For some of you that I talked with you already know this was not the track we wanted or wish for you to drive on. The old lot has come apart and is not safe to race on at this time. Goodguys has discussed with the Fair Grounds about repaving the lot but it has to be someting the state wants to do so we are waiting on that.
We wanted to move it to the big lot and run it along Bernal so we did not go through the dip in the center of that lot, as you know what we got was not what was asked for.

I am working to get this fixed before the Autumn event as the old lot still will not be ready to race on. I will keep you informed so you know that we have the larger lot and if there is any dips that would cause problems.

I hope you all understand and will work with us to get this back on track for better racing.

Goodguy Ed

Sounds like some of the O.P.'s of this thread said exactly what our whole group thought as we attended this show. Thanks Ed for addressing the concerns brought up here.
