I thought it was about time I put together a build thread.
I bought the car from the US about 4 years ago. Long story short bad buy.'
It looked good in the pictures, but we all know how they can lie.

As it was when I bought it.

39632

The start of the strip down

39633

I own blasting company, so we stripped it and look what we found.

We replaced both quarters, full floor, trunk floor, firewall, roof and both outer wheel wells. I sold of most of the car as I decided to go with a Pro touring setup.

39637

39638

39639

39640

I purchased Art Morrision front and rear clips.

It's been moving along pretty well the last year.

Bringing it home after the firewall, interior and underside where painted.

39644

The red is Sting Red, the interior is Matt Black and the underside is Gregorio Silverstone.

brake lines made.

39647

39648

I have set a mock up engine in place, I am running a tall deck RHS block, but I don't have it here yet, so I needed to simulate it by raising the heads of the one I have.

39649

Greg from Aus

I have set up the breathers for the diff and fuel tank.

39656

I have been working on the headers and exhaust the last couple of weeks. I have used a header design set by icengineworks, that works great.

Great progress.

I was just wondering if you were going to run that suspension as a 5 link? I know AM offer both the 3 and 4 link option, but is there a reason to run 5?

Just curious.

Andrew

Andrew, it"s the same setup that was being used in Project Unfair, I believe there is only the 2 of them. I will use the 4 link for the drags and the 3 link for everything else.

Thanks for FINALLY posting.... You and I must share that little hold out gene.... I'm big on posting but not big on posting what I'm doing. LOL

You know -- I have to say -- that so many of these cars end up with a complete re-do after being bought when they "looked" okay.... but what we have to remember is that for many many years these cars weren't worth towing to the junkyard... and then there were a few years of "recovery" where they were still just cheap cars... so the repairs were commensurate with their values. It's only now that we can put the proper repairs to them because they're worth the cost and effort. Glad you saved another one.

Yeah I have a lot of clients that wonder the same thing, I had a 70 Mustang that looked pretty good, but after blasting the only panel not replaced was the roof.

Challenges are a good test. Best of all........when someone asks where you got those headers you can say I BUILT THEM! Get creative and make your own custom name/logo plate and tack it on a tube.

That plastic Lego set made it a lot easier didn't it?!

Ryan, I will start assembly in the next couple of weeks, and I will try to find out for you. I will be running the car with clearance most of the time, so it won't be sitting real low.

Time for a bit of an update.

I have most of the wiring done that I can at this stage. I put the fuse box in the boot and didn't try to hide it, I think it works with the theme of the build, I use an American Auto Wire Hwy 22 kit with extended wires.
I has been a lot of work as I have integrated key less entry and push button start.

42541

I made up a battery kill switch housing.
42542

I had the trimmer install the hood lining and sail panels, I had them made out of perforated vinyl
42543

I made a bracket to hold the fly by wire accelerator pedal.
42544

I made the seat brackets work, and fitted a seat, it all works well. The seats are being recovered to get rid of the writing.

No V8 Supercar in Texas... WTF...

It was a very poorly attended event… so it doesn't surprise me a bit that it's not running again. You can only imagine the cost of the transportation - the crews - the air fares etc to ship this stuff all around -- so they have to sell some tickets -- or get some major air time. I don't thing they did either.

I have been working on the dash pad, what a piece of $hitt. If there is one part I hate in a 69 Camaro it's the dash pad.

I have had all sorts of problems with the fit up to the DSE dash, I am not sure if the pad is the problem or the dash.

So I have made it fit, it will be covered in leather so it should come out fine.

First I cut it up, then I filled it and shaped it with Sika Flex.

OK, the engine is alive.

The basics of it are:

RHS block.
Mast motor sport black label heads, Titanium valves, springs to suit.
Manley LS7 ultra light crank.
Manley ultra light H beam rods.
T&D rockers
Wiesco ceramic coated pistons with weight reduction.
Kaytech high flow oil pump.
OZMO twin throttle body carbon fiber manifold.
twin 92mm throttle bodies.
RHS piston squirter's.
Holley dominator ECU with LCD interface.

It has been built by Dave Crumes Race engines & tuned by Dave Hart Race engines. Dave Hart has used the OZMO manifold and the Dominator ECU before and has a good understanding of them.
It was run up today on Dave Harts swamp boat fan, and they put the horsepower at around 775. I was going to run it on the dyno as well, but decided to wait until it's in the car, here in OZ.

Sounds somewhat similar to how the 'racist' card is played on this side of the pond. :(

How long before that motor makes it's way into the car?

We have that over here too, you aren't on your own there.

The ECU needs to go back to Holley for a software update and they have to build a crate to ship it, so hopefully a couple of weeks and it should be ready to go.

But I will be in the States for a month in September and early August, I am heading to Hot August Nights and another round at Bondurant. I will be home for a bit, then I'm heading to SEMA. :)

Cheers Greg,

I went to HAN for years and years. My grandparents lived in Carson City - so it was always a good excuse to go visit them... and of course HAN "used to be" - the hot rod show in the country on the west coast... Then - frankly - it went to hell in a hand basket as far as I'm concerned. So I quit going about 5 years ago.

I get my fill of Charley at other events... I've thought - a nanosecond at least - about going back, but there's just other things to do - and I'm not any different than everyone else - I only have so many weeks to do "X" amount of car stuff - before it has to take a back seat to family stuff.

This year it is on the same weekend as the NorCal Shelby Mini Nats at Sonoma -- and I have more fun driving the car Charley gave away than I do sitting in a parking lot. (I've never been much of a car show guy).

I think you should modify your trip and include Sonoma for a couple hours... then have Charley send his helicopter to pick you up and whisk you over to Reno.

Wow Greg the engine looks fantastic. I'm sure you'll have fun with that in the car! I'm definitely excited to see this project in the final stages...

USA Greg, sarcasm isn't easy to read through text on the internet. Does Charley really have a helicopter?

SEVERAL -- and AIRPLANES TOO..... and about 100 cars, many of which are in various states. LOL

I'll let him explain as I don't want to discuss his personal fleet of stuff.

But really... No, not that I'm aware of... but with Charley, you never know.

Well that's disappointing... I can confirm he does have cars in various states though. I saw one of them hiding in Michigan a couple days ago. Cool stuff.

I planned the trip around HAN because Charlie said, It's not to be missed, he rated it above all other shows, so we will see.

It's a shame it's on at the same time as the Nor Cal deal as I would have love to be there for a look and add some banter.

I'm heading over to see Ron Sutton after Han on the Monday, as he is re valving some shocks for me.

Charley lives on a farm in the middle of nowhere... and really doesn't get out very much.

You'll have a good time. I think the show is getting it's second wind...

Ron Sutton will be with US.... not with Charley... and WE will be at Sonoma in the heart of beautiful wine country... and racin'... and Shelby's... CHARLEY will be in the middle of a hot asphalt parking lot in RENO in the 100* heat of a beat down old relic of a town that used to be kool when I was a kid - that was 50 years ago...

I'm heading over to see Ron Sutton after Han on the Monday, as he is re valving some shocks for me.
