I'm guessing something sweeeet!

You guessed right...haha. Going away from the analog dash and mounting a Motec C1212 datalogger behind the dash. The box drawn is the viewable screen area. Allow me to get a little technical and maybe provide some insight for others considering and short stop the research like I had undertaken.

Fortunately I connected with Mercury Racing and Motec engineers to figure out my options and best direction. What led me to this was the CAN Bus signal coming from the Mercury Racing ECU. When someone goes with the Mercury Racing SB4 engine you have a few options. First the CAN signal is Mercruiser's Smartraft std from the ECU which is used in their marine applications that are plug and play with Lowrance, Garmin etc. Think large flat panels in the boats sold today.

1. Gauge packages from Livorsi are plug and play with Smartcraft data but not a great option for a car.

2. Obtain a Smartcraft to analog gauge convertor. Good option and certainly the cheapest but you can't take advantage of all the data coming from the ECU.

3. Obtain a Mercruiser Smartcraft to N2K (aka NMEA 2K) converter with is a standard CAN data signal in marine platforms. Great option but whose platform can read N2K CAN data? MOTEC is the only one that can from what I have found for off the shelf as they do have significant presence in marine applications. Then a programmer just has to map the signals using the ECU Protocol Group Numbers. Sounds simple right?

The C1212 or similar also has both analog and digital input/output's outside the ECU environment or CAN signal like trans and diff temp for instance or traction control. In addition the Motec datalogger provides track data, times, etc. As far as the display with their display creator you can create multiple custom gauge layouts. Expensive route to go but very versatile.

Hope all that may help others considering the SB4 engine.

Since the quarter window trim is black then I would paint the window felts black as well. It looks like a lot of your accenting is black on the car. e.g reverse lights, rear panel.
Is your weatherstrip moulding along the roof line black?
Maybe consider using some black door handles? I'm sure the handles you have on there now would sell quickly. Your ride your call.

Paint looks really slick but all the incredible custom mods you've done to the car blows me away.:wow:

Just to give you guys a heads up there are 2 different types of window felts for 69's. Original restoration looking is with the round bead & the flat bead one. It might be easier to paint the flat bead one but I'm not sure how the flat one sits, cushioned under the bead to prevent paint damage?

Talk about trying to make 10lbs of s#%t fit in a 5 gal bucket and try to make it look good. Accusump, oil thermostat, remote oil filter mount w/ primer, cooler, radiator overflow, PS reservoir and cooler, ProVent 200 separator, trans cooler and diff cooler. Holy cow! Went all in with Fragola Race-Rite Pro PTFE hose. Invested in the hydraulic crimper, etc and the hose is seriously light weight which has always been a consideration on this build. The hose is awesome if you are considering it but sure is pricey. The bend radius without collapse is very impressive.

Anyhow one corner just mockup thus far.

Haven't posted in a awhile but things are progressing well. Plumbing is done which was a total PITA. Coolers, required SB4 vent with 1" lines and Accusump made it challenging to route while minimizing appearance. Electrical is basically done. Had a minor setback with the T56 mag trans where the cooler pump fitting would not seal. I bought the trans used on a 1 year old Tranzilla build so take no chances I sent the trans to Texas Drivetrain Perf and had them repair the issue. Also went with some Liberty Gear billet interlocks, new bronze fork pads and swapped out 6th gear for .58 vs .67 from the 2:29 ZR1 gearset since I will be running 3.73 or 3.90 gears. Should keep a nice 2200 rpm range on the highway for cruising.

We just started hanging the front sheet metal and finishing up the dash.

Since everything is controlled with the Ipad thru the InfinityBox InTouch unit I wanted something discreet to control volume and advance a song selection separate from an app. ^^^^ This Memphis unit was perfect so just a small switch that we will incorporate into the interior center console.

I have ARP 12pt SS throughout the build but primarily throughout the DSE suspension and drivetrain. ARP only goes up to 1/2" so I sourced and contracted custom 17-4PH age hardened SS 12pt bolts to match tensile strength in 9/16" for the front and rear DSE suspension. I will never look at $50 bill the same again. And you need about 14 btw with a 6-8 wk lead time.

On a side note I had Totally Stainless make all of my custom bolts for Syborg and this latest version of 2nd Chance. So I feel your pain.

I tried to obtain from Totally Stainless but they told me their supplier was no longer able to provide the 9/16" bolts and they didn't know if they would ever carry them in the future and went further to say it was very unlikely they would offer them again.

Hooker Blackheart system for DSE equipped cars. I was concerned if I would like the sound but so far they sound good with this motor. A few connections customized like the header collector connections (Ultimate header extreme low profile clamps) then entire system is Jet Hot coated. Custom headers of course.

Thanks! So many changes but all subtle. That's actually the Anvil CF bumper I bought from Mark that he ended up not using on Hellfire due to fit as I recall. LOL We literally sliced and diced it so it didn't matter to me. You can't really call it an Anvil bumper any longer I guess. Page 12 & 16 will give you some idea of what we did.

Thanks Chad, I’ll check those pages out.

Thanks. The spoiler is from Kindigit.

I always had that design in mind from the time we did the rendering. We were going to make one but then I was watching Bitchin' Rides and they used a 3d plotter on a '68 Camaro they did as they designed/produced a spoiler exactly what I had envisioned. A lot less money to purchase or have him reproduce one than custom build as I had intended. I emailed Dave and after a few email exchanges one showed up in CF. Now they sell them.

They sell it as one piece for bolt on but it created gaps that just didn't work for me but probably fine for most. We extended the trunk lip to take up all the gaps. Anyhow that's how we ended up with a three piece spoiler. Keeping in line with the theme of cutting up carbon fiber parts. LOL Page 18 btw Don't tell Dave I cut up his spoiler. :)

Great question....they are the reason we are going to Detroit Autorama where they can showcase their talent. I have some surprises left of what we are doing to finish the car. It heads to interior in a few days then back to the shop for the flush glass, punch list and the finishing touches.

Brett Schmenski and his father Rick(semi-retired) of Mountain Home Street Rods. Brett did the body work and paint. What you are seeing too is just a rough buff where some areas need to be wet sanded a bit more and some areas haven't been wet sanded at all. We had to rush a bit at the end to meet our interior shops' window. I would put their paint and bodywork against anyone in the business. It is so straight...just amazed. They did a phenomenal job.

Expanded PVC...many of the interior shops are using it now and getting away from wood materials that don't age well and are heavy.

1/2" mostly. Some are layered and bonded 1/8" and 1/4" then routed for the desired shape.

Thank you for the compliments! Ben Hermance and Distinct Customs interiors really took my vision and delivered.

Car is back in my garage for a couple weeks before heading back to the shop for the flush glass install, final cut and buff and a few punch list items. A couple additions left too....different wheels and a splitter and diffuser.

Will get some better pics but Ipad mini in place for lighting, door locks, windows and a/c control.

Hey brother, I can not even begin to craft a grouping of words that does adequate justice to your build. All I can say is this is certainly goals!

Curious, what made you choose Jupiter red over carmine? I am about to paint my Foxbody and have been going back and forth between the red on Stielow's Hellfire and Carmine... so I'm interested in your insight.

Absolutely incredible build... can’t wait to hear more clips of that SB4. I’ve drooled over that motor ever since Mercury Racing released it, and thought it would make a perfect crate engine for a pro-touring car. It’s going to be awesome... huge effort to incorporate it into the car, but will be worth it. Couldn’t justify it in my build, so went for the Mamo-massaged LS7 route instead....

Love what you’ve done with the interior, too... stunning combination. Congrats!

3/16" aluminum. Doubled the thickness on the leading edge with some welds and panel bond. Two small turnbuckles on the trailing portion that go into rivnuts on the core support. A small section will be fastened with Zeus fasteners to take it back to the cross member after the car shows. Functional but not over the top plus nothing really out back to provide aero balance so you can't go crazy.

Here’s a shot of the carbon splitter on the front of my car. I’m looking to do something similar to what you’ve done. Not looking for any crazy aero but I’d like to have something to go under the front valance and Also protect all the oil lines I’m hiding underneath it.

This was before my car went back to the body shop so it doesn’t look quite like this anymore. All the panels are lined up and primered now.

Make a pattern out of cardboard or 3/16" plywood and mock it up. That will get you where you want to go.

Mike, they are expecting record breaking attendance. A few Ridler contenders were trying to get in the show when news of the cancellation of Detroit Autorama came down Tuesday morning. Weather looks to be great as the new this year outdoor show should be a good draw as well.

Beautiful!!!!! This car turned out great!!!

Somewhat off topic but, how do you like your infinity electrical system. Was it easy to use and would you recommend it to others? I looked at it and was nervous about the setup/software side of it being not so user friendly?

Thank you.

I was where you are. It sounds intimidating but far easier than it sounds. Brilliant execution. Check the blog and how to videos as they cover just about anything you will encounter. Jay was awesome in his support. For me we did have some one off situations but literally had 6 folks from the builder to supporting vendors on conference calls to figure it out. Some of my favorite memories of the build listening to the wealth of knowledge on those calls.

I'll probably come friday then. I have no interest fighting saturday mayhem. I will have a couple "run of the mill" cars there we did a bunch of mechanicals on, but none of our full builds I am aware of will be there.

A friend of mine who lives in OK and went to the car show sent me pics of your car not knowing we're forum buds and that I follow your build here on Lat-g. He just knows I'm building a Camaro and sent me pics of your bad a$$ Camaro as motivation. I can post them here in your thread if you'd like. Or pm me and I can email them to you and you can post them. Just let me know. Considering how close he could get to the car, not the best pics, but still some nice shots of your awesome build.

Sealed, now primed. We designed the attachment points off existing bolts, etc with threaded stanchions for adjustability but also so it is completely removable with no trace. Trim rings for the exhaust yet to figure out.

Diffuser is done. Michigan Machine Worx is making the exhaust trim piece. We came up with a reverse NACA duct design that will be billet and powdercoated. The 3D print is a prototype to confirm fitment.

Saw this in Des Moines this weekend. It was too hot to really study it at length, but the level of this build is amazing (and I realized that word is wayyy overused). Stunning is an understatement. I'm not much of a red car guy, but this shade flat works, and the accents are perfect... not too much, not too little. I don't think I have ever seen better fit & finish. And that motor?... it's presence is undeniable.
Well deserved top 10 pick. Not really sure why it wasn't chosen for "of the year" finalist. I'm thinking Columbus may change that. Good luck next week Chad!

WOW!!! What a week. Finally catching up from being on the road. Des Moines was a fun show. We did auto-x the car there but ultimately decided to show the car in Builder's Choice to which we took a Builder's Choice award. I knew we had to take the car to Columbus and at least take a shot at Street Machine of the Year. So did the 100+ others tell me I really needed to get there...LOL. So back to OK to get the car ready and pack for another road trip.

The car performed well on the Auto-X as I had a few folks tell me later the announcer said I had the fastest time on course yet it needs more gear and still dialing in the shock settings, camber and ride height which I have already started to address. I was also on 300 comp tires with the AL305's and not my GX3's with the Rival's.

Competition was tough with the five finalists. The builds may not have come from the very large well known shops of the past winners but like us they brought their A game. Huge congrats to them as they all deserve the top five finalists award.

Can't say enough about Mountain Home Street Rods (Brett and team)and how they brought my vision together. Distinct Customs on the interior. DSE, Roadster Shop, Michigan Machine Worx, GSpeed, Hermance Designs, Vaporworx, InfinityBox LLC and so many others. Finally thank you to all here on lat-g.

Here are a couple screen captures from the photoshoot.
