Can it be done without modifying the trans tunnel? I saw that Hurst had scattershields for the SBC's, but of course the Pontiac is a little special :) It's for my father's car, he wants to keep the manual linkage and doesn't want to modify the body at all. Currently has a Muncie 4 speed w/console. I would like him to go T56, but if not it sounds like the TKO600 will be behind door #2. It cruises at about 3700 RPMs, not too enjoyable for long trips.

Seems like Liberty and Hurst seem to be reliable vendors, is there anyone else I should look into or stay away from?

Thanks everyone.

Not sure how much it helps, but I'm using a T-56 out of a Dodge Viper. There was a brace under the tunnel area that I needed to remove. It's a tight fit, but mine did fit other than that brace.

It will fit.....just barely. I put a viper t56 behind my 462 and had to massage where the firewall meets the floor. I used a Mcloed bellhousing with the stock throwout bearing. The driveline angles come out pretty good. My car was an automatic with console and the shifter comes out the stock hole pretty well. It is a lot of fun. The crossmember I used was from BMR fabrications. They had to custom make it and I had to further adapt it, but that was 3 years ago, so much has changed since. good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not sure if it is "drop in" enough to get my dad talked into it. He's not as into cutting things up as I am :) To each their own. The TKO600 drop in kit might be the winner, even though I'd rather he went through the work for a T56 Magnum. If I could just get a mechanical linkage bellhousing for a T56 I think I could make the rest work...
