Ran across a 66 Ford Mustang Fastback that had not been messed with YET! I wanted to do some simple upgrades to the body with the fiberglass rear spoiler, hood, front valance and side quarter windows. Install some suspension parts, brakes and a new motor, tranny and rearend.

When it got time to add the body pieces none of them fit at all. I know why I do not like these fiberglass pieces and metal is the only way to go. So here is what this simple project turned into.

Wanted to give it a shelby look to the front so needed to cut the lower valance and add a stainless screen to the opening. Knock off the FORD letters on the hood and remove the front bumper bolts. Also wanted to add a lower front spoiler to give it a lower body line look.

Here is a good look at the front bumper.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject8.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject8.jpg.html)

Next was the side scoop and removing the ford door handles to add the 1980 Jag handles that I also used on the 69 Camaro the Ironworks is doing for me.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/66sidescoop.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/66sidescoop.jpg.html)

Now was the time to create the hood scoop to the stock hood.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject6.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject6.jpg.html)

Added the stainless screen to the hood and the side scoops.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/66hood.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/66hood.jpg.html)

Rework the rear quarter to add the rear spoiler and added to the trunk lid. Also tucked the rear bumper and removed the bumper bolts. Really got the rear bumper tucked up to the body real nice.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject11.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject11.jpg.html)
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject3.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject3.jpg.html)
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject2.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject2.jpg.html)

Also added the gas filler cap and the tail light billet pieces. Kept the trunk lock and the exhaust outlets.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/66rearspoiler.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/66rearspoiler.jpg.html)
You can also see the piece that was added to the bottom section under the tail lights to make the bumper look flush and fill in the gaps.

Strip it down and send it off to the blaster and then body work and prime this ride. The paint color is going to be Mercedes Silver with a single Charcoal stripe, just like the 70 1/2 Camaro I am doing. I like that look, real clean and makes all the lines of these old cars pop.

Stay tune for more updates.

Hey guys, glad you all like the work so far on the Mustang. Doing a few projects at the same time is alot of work. I had to run the NOMARO to the painter in AZ this weekend and pick up one of the cars.

On the Mustang I wanted to remove the louvers on the side of the fastback and install a side glass. I tried to use the aftermarket kit but didn't like the fit or look. So I decided to use a late model Mustang quarter glass. Here is the cut out area that we will install the glass into.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject18.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject18.jpg.html)

As you can see the quarter needed to be cut to get the right angle for the glass to lay right.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject12.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject12.jpg.html)

Here is the piece that was made to go around the late model quarter glass.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject13.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject13.jpg.html)

Here is the new glass setting in the quarter.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject14.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/Mustangproject14.jpg.html)

All welded up and ready to prime again.

Nice work Ed! Cant wait to see it up close... I wish I had dome my mods in metal... definitly more solid of a foundation, and probably would have been less time involved than trying to straighten and shape all that fiberglass. ( trunk, Qtr extensions, bumpers, vallance, and hood)

Hope to see you at Goodguys Nashville!

KT.

KT, I will be at Nashville all week. Find me when your out there.
The fiberglass items appeared to be more work than just doing it out of metal, and now I know what is there so it won't be moving around when you go to install it after paint.

See you next week.

Jeff, Glad you like it. This car is not the norm for me as I am a Camaro guy but it was a good price and I wanted to make a cool little driver car.

I choose the Intro Custom Wheels for this build. The rear spokes are sand blasted to give them depth with the fowrad ones polished.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/MustangIntroWheels_zps4fa72640.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/MustangIntroWheels_zps4fa72640.jpg.html)

Getting all the chrome and suspension put together. I used the RideTech AirBar with their Coil Overs for the rear to get the ride down where I wanted it. On the front I used the Chris Alston rack and control arms with the RideTech coil overs and Global West upper outer tower braces. Here is some of the work going together in the garage.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/DroidPhone058-Copy.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/DroidPhone058-Copy.jpg.html)

As you can see the rear bumper, tail lights and gas filler are all on. The exhaust ports in the rear roll pan was kept to give a clean look out the rear. The rear bumper was rechromed and tucks in very nice.

Here is a shot of the Intro Wheels on the car with the Baer Brakes and the suspension set.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w366/69nomaro/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/DroidPhone057-Copy.jpg (http://s1072.photobucket.com/user/69nomaro/media/Project%20Sixtysix%20Silver%20Stang/DroidPhone057-Copy.jpg.html)

Took the Charcoal color on the hood stripe and painted the engine compartment. I will get this on the ground and outside to take some shots of the paint and the car on the ground. Little tight in the garage to get those shots.

Next is the Jag door handles and the Harley Davidison Headlights.
Stay tune

Jeff and Rick, Yeah tell me about moving fast, the check book is sure showing signs of that. The one thing about my job is I travel so much so when I can work on these I have to go like hell until my work takes me away.
This car is turning out pretty cool even though I was not going to keep it when I got it and just make it cool and turn it. The engine is going in and should have that wrapped up soon then onto the interior and final trim and glass.

Thanks for checking this project out.

Marty, this one will be going soon after it is done as I have the two Camaro's and the Nomaro along with a truck I am doing and will not have room for this one...

Rick, The color is a Mercedes Silver and the Charcoal is from a Dodge Truck. They work good together and show off the treatment we did on the wheels.

Working on the Engine and then Interior stay tuned.

Here is a shot of the 302 Ford engine now in the Mustang. The engine compartment is painted the same color as the hood stripe.

I have the Chris Alston fender bracing and added the over flow and PS can to the bar with their clamps.

Put the Billet Specialties Tru-Trac on this for a killer clean install. Wiring this all up now.

Well it has been awhile since I was on this forum as things get pretty busy for me.
I did get the mustang running and driving and will be working on the little bit of Interior that is left. Got the TMI seat covers and foam for the stock seats.
I will put up a few pictures as it progresses.

Got busy building a few other cars so this one always goes to the back burner for some reason.
