Well flights & tickets are now all booked for the V8 Supercar meeting, arrive May 15th till May 19th :excited:

Staying at W Austin (thanks for suggestion Streetking) looks very cool.

I fly home June 1 from LA, so have about 12 days to fill.

After some local knowledge.

I'm looking for some suggestions on things to do and where to go after Austin. Would love to incorporate a car show if anything was on May 25th & 26th. Hoping to eyeball some products when in USA for my Camaro and for next project, 72 C10 Stepside.

Was thinking of a road trip to New Orleans, which way? Maybe then a visit to DSE? Leave a couple of days for LA? What shops/vendors to see in So Cal?

cheers Roger

Thanks.

I might have to fly back to LA from wherever I end up. I note there is a Super Chevy show in Bakersfield the weekend I leave, I could go to on the Friday.

Suggestions eagerly solicited.

Well, Austin you have Austin Speed Shop that I've been to. Congress avenue with several cool bars and juke joints and one I like is the Contential Club and then there's downtown 6th street I think that has several bars and juke joints. Cool place if you like music! I'm sure SW could hook you up with plenty of "cool" while you are there! :trophy-1302:

Roger - What were your impressions of the track layout? Compared to other tracks in the series did it make for good racing?

Track layout was very good, facility is amazing
Driver feedback was they enjoyed it more than the other purpose built Formula One tracks they race on
There didn't seem to be as much door banging as usual, not sure if this was related to width of track or the boys just behaving them selves

No doubt though I hope to get back here again for this

Good to hear, the track seems to accommodate bikes, open wheel, and sedans well and it's technically and physically demanding. Will Davison was knackered after his cool suit and drink systems failed.

I'd have to agree they were much more civil than expected. :D

My dream ride in one of those cars would be Bathurst...........promise I won't do a Darrel Waltrip and scream like a little baby.

Rodger came by today and decided he needed a new project car.. I told him with a small LS motor in it, it would smoke his Camaro..Look for it in the "project update" section..:action-smiley-027:
He is ready for Weld to sit next to him.

WTF!!! This must be the only thread on Lat G I haven't posted in!! (don't start guys!!) Sorry to have missed it Roger! Not sure how -- since I've known about this trip for months.... Had I seen it we would have made damn sure we all got together etc.

Was fun to meet you -- even though I was on the wrong side of the table "group" to chat...

When I went to Austin Speed Shop today the guys from the Ekols team were there -- what a hoot! They are so funny and we had a great time talking about the racing etc. Wished you were there as you'd have loved hanging with them. They hadn't seen the YouTube video with Darrell Waltrip riding in a V8 car... they were in hysterics when we showed it to them.

I posed this very question to the Ekols team -- they said the track was so wide they just didn't need to get that close as there was ample line in most turns for 2 cars....

I was hoping for a lot more action than what we got.

Ambidextrous, I can change gears with either hand :)

After the short spin in the Cadillac, I'm thinking LSA :)

I think Greg and I would have the lowest CG :)

A good friend used to live in Oz 6 months out of the year (drag racing season) for seven years and goes back for Christmas holiday every year. He also introduced me to a mate that lives in Shepparton who stayed at my place 10 years ago when traveling through and we stay in touch. I absolutely love your slang and attitude about life in general.

Well got home on the weekend, still having trouble getting back to "normal" sleep pattern.

Had a ball while in USA. Great to meet a few guys from here.

I'll definitely be back to Austin for the V8s, great town, great people.

San Antonio was cool and New Orleans was down right awesome (glad I didn't act my age :))

Wrapped up trip, with visit to Detroit Speed, many thanks to Dan at DSE who spent a good couple of hours showing me around and got the chance to say hi to Kyle & Stacey.

You guys in US are getting the SS version, in Redline specification I believe, hence the lack of options.

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/06/04/2014-chevrolet-ss-priced-at-44470/

US version has 6.2 litre LS3, Aust version has 6.0

Here is the TV ad for the new daily

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=UC9qnjOUjss

Took a new Clubsport (similar but withoutSC driveline) for a test drive, really impressed with how refined it felt, but with good exhaust note.

Seats not as good as the CTS-V (damn you SW :)), hopefully GTS ones are.

Expected delivery late September.

cheers

September will probably turn in to early October, around Bathurst 1000 time. Will seem like forever.

Hybrid/Electric cars make up about 1% of new car sales here. I think that due to the longer distances we tend to drive here that they are disadvantaged, plus the higher buying price. I think some of the newer technology that increases range will make a difference. Also now they compete with a large range of very fuel efficient cars, the running costs are not as significant as previous.

From memory I think V8s were about 20% of all Commodore sales.

Thanks - I didn't think the Aussie consumer would be as gullible as the American. :D

The hybrids have real possibility but currently the range/price shortcomings are a major handicap.

I assume you'll be at Bathurst!?

Here are some pics of a red one I found today (not mine), mine will have the "Super-Flow Performance Spoiler" (really that is what they called it), http://www.hsv.com.au/Gen-F/see/GTS/

Removing the two on the trunk would really clean up the back. The one on the hood doesn't flow either. The yellow wheel centers and calipers let everyone know what it is don't they?

I striped all the badging off my Tundra pickup and don't miss it a bit! Besides they weren't paying me anything for advertising for them. :D

You bet, 37 sleeps to go. The salesman at the dealership must be sick of me, I keep popping in to see any new stock of the other HSV models.

But I'm a bit sad about the thought of my old one going, didn't realise how attached I am to it. Has been a brilliant thing for nearly 7 years. Drove a similar age BMW 5 series last weekend, IMO, my Clubsport is a much better thing.
