There has been some talk around Goodguys about putting together a Muscle Car Road Tour like the Rodfather tour we did last year for the pre-49 cars,

This tour would be more focused around race tracks and Muscle car shops and manufactures that we would visit along the way. Here is what we have put together so far.

Kick off the tour at the Goodguys home office in Pleasanton CA with a Lunch for everyone. We would then travel over towards Highway 1 to Monterey CA and run around Laguna Seca Raceway that afternoon. Spend the night.

The next day we would head down Highway 1 towards Paso Robles. There we would visit the Car musuem, a muscle car shop and head over to Button Willow to run around that famous race track. Head over to Ironwork Speed & Kustom for a shop tour to see what is being built. Spend the night in Bakersfield CA.

Leave Bakersfield head towards Lake Havasu City AZ. On the way run the track at Willow Springs or go to the GM proving Grounds. Get into Lake Havasu City AZ and head over to Premier Street Rods to see that fine facillity and have a dinner. Spend the night in Lake Havasue City AZ.

Leave the next day and head towards Phoenix AZ. There we would run around AZ Motorsports Park, Firebird Raceway, Visit Baer Brakes, See Ron Pratt's Car Colection, visit Penske Racing Musuem and head towards Globe AZ to spend the night.

Leave Globe AZ and see some of AZ's best back roads towards Gallup NM then onto Albuquerque NM to visit the Unser Musuem and a few shops before spending the night.

Leave Albuquerque NM and head toward Amarillo TX to see the Cadillac Ranch, Visit Mark Warricks fine collection of cars and a muscle car junk yard full of treasures. Spend the night in Amarillo TX.

Head south from Amarillo TX toward Fort Worth TX and spend the weekend running the AutoCross track at the Goodguys Fall Lone Star Nationals Events.

We are looking to put this together with all hotel rooms and some meals included for one price. If you think you want to be part of this or if you know a cool place along the way let me know. This will be limited to 50 cars.

It will be way cool to travel across the country with 50 muscle cars and magazine guys seeing the sites and driving around the coolest race tracks in the southwest part of the country.

We will keep you informed if we get this off and running and what the cost will be. Just pay for your gas and some meals and have the time of your life with car guys and gals just like you.

Let us know what you think.

Rodger is correct. If you want to ship your car to the Goodguys office we will store them inside until you are here to head out on the tour.

Getting back or home from TX is all on you.

This tour is scheduled to leave Friday Sept 27th and get to the TX event on Thursday Oct 3rd if it all goes forward.

Sounds like fun! I'm not sure I could stand that many days in a row in my car wearing ear plugs though :geezer:

If we take the hauler, we could hook a tow strap on the back. I doubt we would feel a thing.

Maybe your Dad and his gang will drive out for Pleasanton and fly home to come back a month later and drive home. You could do the same. Just haul someone you hate talking to for long periods. I will be in another car so you will have find someone else. :) :) :) :)

Ed, what a great idea, I'm in! I'd love to know more, sounds like a blast. This will be much more fun than towing the car from NorCal to Ft. Worth.

Is it strictly for sixties and seventies muscle cars or anything along the way?
I would love to say I am in, but that is nearing the end of harvest for us and am uncertain weather or not we will be finished.
I am interested to see a cost because if I can't get rid of the ticket then I don't swallow a huge fee.
Sounds like a absolute blast.

Any idea what the cost will be? I assume there would be some arrangement for security of the cars at each overnight stop?

We are working on the hotel room blocks and the lunches and dinners to get a final price. There will be a truck and trailer following the tour that we all will have to contribute for fuel as they will pickup any cars that break down and take them to the next stop.
The tour will start Sept 27th at the Goodguys office and end at the Goodguys fall Texas event. This will be the next to the last event to qualify for the AutoCross Finals Shootout with over $10,000.00 for the winner.
We will be working on the cost and this will be limited to 50 cars.

When we open this for sign up it will be first come.

The tour will be lead by the new Goodguys Camaro G/RS that is being built by Ridetech. Check it out on their web site.

Ed...think Marc will let me get some hi speed seat time in that Camaro? [I wouldn't if I were him :)]

Rodger...yeah, we need to rent out rosa's for the evening!

I haven't done a cross country trip since 08...time to get in the saddle again. I'm especially looking forward to the track time on the road [combined with the neccessity of actually getting down the road]. Maybe we need to create some sort of token prize for fastest lap at each track?

Bret,
Not sure on the Camaro seat time as I think Marc and his son Grant maybe using all that up.

We can sure do some fun things with this tour at the tracks and at the stops. It is going to be over the top.

I am looking forward to driving my 70 1/2 RS....

I will keep you all informed.

Bret, get that Mustang out of the moth balls...

Is this for any year car or just 60's and 70's muscle cars?

No matter what I want to meet up with every body when they stop in Albuquerque.

Mick,
It is for anyone but we are going to try and run this as a Muscle Car tour.

Room blocks are almost done so we can figure the cost and get it out to you guys.

Also if you want to ship your car to the Goodguys Pleasanton Office, we can keep it inside until you get here to run the tour. so ship them with the Goodguys Official Auto Transporter and fly in for the tour.

Once again, I'm very interested. Any dates yet or are you still working on it? Also, I'm next door to you in livermore and since I've never done this before, drive home from Texas? Two or three days for that?

Thanx, mike

Ed --- Just talking out loud here --- I'd love to do these shows and stops but with my '32 Roadster.... so would I be allowed to follow along (no need for rooms etc) with my new "rig"? And participate in the tours etc? I'd be happy to pay a fee...

If I just hauled the '32 -- I'd have room to pick up a breakdown... or??
